0:12month and when I tell you and I need you
0:15to hear me this morning when I tell you
0:18this moment I have prayed for prayed
0:21about it and I really sense that God is
0:25going to free a lot of people in this
0:28room especially the
0:33men brothers let me tell you
0:36something somebody prayed about this
0:39service
0:40today someone was praying about what is
0:43about to be imparted to
0:46you
0:49ladies let me just prophesy to
0:53you that man in your
0:55life God's about to do a 180 degree turn
1:00in his
1:02life oh y'all didn't hear me y'all
1:04didn't hear me God's about to do a 180
1:08degree turn in your man's
1:10life I want all the ladies to shout it's
1:13about time it's
1:16about God is about to transform that
1:21man's
1:22life and he's going to do it in this
1:26moment I had the privilege of meeting
1:29this G gentlemen he was a part of the
1:33maximize your potential conference he
1:36did such an awesome job if you were here

2:45noise thank you thank you so much for
2:47being here please be seated um Dr Jay
2:51I've been praying about this moment for
2:53a long time once you and I I think it
2:56was a couple of months ago right after
2:58the conference I told you I need need
2:59you to come on a Sunday morning yes sir
3:02and I've been really praying about this
3:04quickly would you tell them give them
3:07just a quick background of who you are
3:11and what you do professionally now so uh
3:15just a quick background former pro
3:18athlete um about 20 years ago and as I
3:21tell people I still I get the do you
3:23still play football um think but I don't
3:26but I'm 42 now and about 20 years ago I
3:29was a NFL free agent and after I got
3:32sent home I attempted suicide the first
3:34time and then several years later
3:37attempted again and got into therapy
3:40went back to school became a therapist
3:43went back to school became a doctor so
3:46um I practiced for three years and then
3:48I wrote the book Jess hillbo uh for men
3:51which was my story and was also my
3:54journey to learning how to be open um
3:58I'm a son of a pastor
4:00uh parents were in Ministry father still
4:02in Ministry a Baptist pastor and mom was
4:05uh Pentecostal so interesting
4:08household so you can imagine what those
4:10conversations was like traditional and
4:13radical right and now I travel all all
4:16over the country uh with the tour just H
4:18bro we average six to about 700 men per
4:22stop and we are going to hit our 30th
4:26City in Nasa Bahamas uh next month and
4:29so we've been uh on the road for 3 years
4:33W and I have traveled this country
4:35sharing my story um with men with with
4:38with young women but I got my start in
4:40group homes with girls and uh I created
4:45a program and they came to me and they
4:48said hey we would like to see if this
4:50works and I said sure yeah I'm a
4:52football player and it was something
4:53that I had always had this mindset of
4:56being able to create and we created the
4:59program and after the program a young
5:01lady walked up to me and she said this
5:03program has changed my life can you
5:06create something that will help me
5:08sustain what you taught us and I'm
5:11following the Holy Spirit and 10 years
5:14ago I wrote this book for young ladies
5:16titled letters to a young Queen and this
5:19book is a compilation of letters and
5:21poems and young ladies and one of the
5:23things that I realize is that whether
5:26you're 20 30 40 or 50 most of who we are
5:30and the summation in our adulthood has a
5:33lot to do with our
5:36childhood and no matter what your age is
5:40there's a little boy and there's a
5:42little girl inside of all of us and so
5:45now I'm blessed to share not only my
5:48expertise but to share experiential uh
5:51to share clinical but also just to share
5:54my story in the many layers of how God
5:57has taken what was meant to really
6:01because when I talk about the second
6:03suicide attempt which was a drug
6:05overdose and I was living with my
6:07godmother and she found me under the bed
6:09cuz I was missing for a
6:11day so the same mentality that I had as
6:15a football player I use it to to try to
6:18take my life I was locked in wow yeah
6:21wow now we're going to talk a little bit
6:23about this book just heel bro um
6:26powerful and you only have a few that
6:30you will sign in in the lobby
6:33um why is it important for men to be
6:37healed
6:40oo look at the
6:41[Laughter]
6:44women
6:46so the reason it's important for men to
6:49be healed because healed men create
6:53healed and healthy
6:55patterns uh when you look at our
6:57community today a a lot of what we see
7:00is reflected upon Behavior patterns um
7:04you look at uh generational
7:08intergenerational and you look at the
7:09studies of a background of a family and
7:13a summation of what we are seeing acted
7:16out in our communities has a great
7:19impact from the behavior in the way that
7:22which we show up as men and this is not
7:25to put the pressure on men that it's
7:28men's fault however ever it's important
7:30for us to heal because when we heal our
7:33communities become
7:37healed when we heal our families are
7:41better when we heal our women feel
7:44protected they feel safe uh we are
7:47living in a very interesting times and
7:49you see a lot of gender Wars on social
7:51media men this and women that so it's
7:55important for brothers to heal so we can
7:58evolve
7:59right uh Muhammad Ali said something
8:01that was so powerful he said a man at 50
8:05that sees sees that sees life the same
8:07at 50 as he did at 20 has just wasted 30
8:13years and many times Bishop we don't see
8:17men
8:19evolve see and I talked to brothers and
8:22they look at Dr J today in
8:252024 but 2013
8:302012 the second suicide attempt in my
8:33godmother saying to me you have got to
8:36get some help and I want to speak to the
8:37brothers here's what triggered cuz I
8:39often get in this question here's what
8:41triggered I had so much Trauma from
8:45church because I was a son of a pastor
8:48and I was the only
8:49son and I saw church people rally around
8:55my father as a pastor was my but my
8:59assess M of him was who he was Monday
9:02through
9:03Saturday I didn't need a pastor I needed
9:06a
9:07father so when he brought us into the
9:10room and said I'm divorcing your mother
9:12and my mother put us in a U-Haul truck
9:16load us up loaded everything we had and
9:17moved us to Texas when I got in that
9:20truck in Mississippi it was a scared
9:24very timid kid who didn't know anything
9:27and but when I got out of the truck and
9:29tex I became a very
9:31callous anger and brothers we need to
9:34heal because so many of has anger which
9:37is a umbrella emotion that many times is
9:40hiding
9:42abandonment it's hiding
9:45rejection it's hiding the insecurity of
9:49not knowing who you
9:51are because if you didn't have a model
9:55or you didn't have someone who exhibited
9:58what manood looks like you created your
10:01own idea wow of that wow and many times
10:05our ideas of manhood is attached to
10:09something that has been socialized from
10:12our
10:13neighborhoods you look at the dope boy
10:16uh sometimes that's the athlete
10:19sometimes that's an uncle or sometimes
10:21it's the men that women talk about and
10:24if you're like me who grew up with a mom
10:26who have 12
10:28sisters
10:29W and there's a lot of cackling going on
10:32so so you try to become everything that
10:35they said they didn't want in a
10:37man and then if you lived in a household
10:40with a single mom you probably became a
10:43surrogate husband to
10:46her because she probably battled with
10:49trying to make you the man that she
10:51always
10:53wanted which is where we get emotional
10:57incests so some ladies will say I feel
11:01like men hate women but what was really
11:04happening sisters is a lot of men have
11:06this Dain or resentment toward their
11:10mothers because at 13 I was forced to be
11:13something in a household that I wasn't
11:16prepared to
11:20be that's
11:25good so it's
11:27important for us to heal as men because
11:32so many of us are walking around
11:35wounded and brothers we have our sword
11:40in one hand and we have our shield in
11:43another hand and it's hard to receive
11:47when you're on
11:49defense you'll be surprised that the
11:51brothers that I've sat in counseling
11:53with that love their wife but are still
11:55struggling to accept the love that their
11:58spouse is giving them because they don't
12:00feel worthy or you don't feel that you
12:04are
12:06enough and I think I have some
12:08statistics on one of the slides about
12:11the suicide rate that is increasing
12:13today amongst black men yeah Walkers
12:16through it it's rising through of they
12:18can pull up that slide with the
12:20statistics MH yeah yeah there it is can
12:24you put it on the monitor okay can you
12:26can you see that if not if you want to
12:28stand so I and and I'm I want to go to
12:31this one in the middle
12:33Bishop because we're in the church n
12:38point4 of African-Americans reported use
12:41of religious coping dealing with mental
12:43health issues in other words blacks than
12:46seeking rather than seeking support in a
12:48form of mental health would rather going
12:51to church wow so we don't really have a
12:55real experience with God
12:59because we used church as a
13:02drug
13:04o church as a way to cope to get help
13:07because if I say that I need help as a
13:10Believer maybe there's this Mark that
13:13I'm placing on God and let me tell you
13:15something God's reputation is already
13:17intact yes sir so you saying that you
13:19need help does not make God look bad in
13:24fact accepting that you need help
13:27actually reveals the god through the
13:29ones that he's put the skill set within
13:33them to help you yes
13:34[Applause]
13:36sir that's true and for the brothers we
13:40struggle because we don't want nobody to
13:42see we're
13:44hurting when you go to the doctor the
13:46first thing he asks you where does it
13:50hurt but most men can't say where it
13:53hurts because you're hurting everywhere
13:55and you don't even know where to
13:56start right because you've been sitting
13:59in silence for so long and if you study
14:03suicide most men take their lives in
14:07cars in rooms by
14:10themselves I've had few years ago a
14:13couple that man had bought his wife I
14:16mean had laid everything out for her
14:19just celebrated
14:21anniversary sent her on a trip the
14:23moment she Lees the house he go in the
14:24room and takes his life and she couldn't
14:27believe it because he was
14:31performing God so so men can perform
14:35even while they're hurting can perform
14:37because it's what we've been programmed
14:38to do we haven't been programmed to say
14:41that you're hurting because even in
14:43football I'd rather say I'm hurt than
14:44I'm
14:46injured if I'm hurt I can still play but
14:49if I'm injured I know I got to be
14:54examined
14:57woo this is good
15:00and many of us Brothers we're
15:04injured and we need
15:07examination because when you're not
15:09examined and you are
15:12hurting you're
15:14wounded you're bleeding on your family
15:17you're bleeding at the
15:18job you're bleeding everywhere you go
15:22and it's hard for you to really show up
15:24as yourself because you haven't taken
15:27the time to examine that heart issue
15:31that wound but Dr Jay what if they're
15:35scared to
15:37admit I'm wounded I'm
15:40hurting because the issue with us men is
15:45trust will my wife my girlfriend my
15:49parents or whomever my family accept the
15:52fact that I'm wounded how do you deal
15:55with
15:56that it's hard to deal with that because
15:59most men have already acknowledged or
16:03experienced sacred or very valuable
16:06information to them uh that has been
16:10exploited I think you said this when we
16:13were at the maximize conference it's
16:15difficult to open up to a spouse if you
16:18feel like what you share with her she's
16:20loading her
16:21gun
16:23yes she's going to use it against you
16:26because I fear that I may find myself
16:28myself in a emotional blackmail or I may
16:31find myself in a space where I am now on
16:35Center Stage and my deficiencies are now
16:39exploited that you're not this or you're
16:41not that and I can remember
16:45vividly vividly that happening to me at
16:50a young age and it shut me down till I
16:53was
16:5430 that long that long and I'm sitting
16:57in therapy and the man says to me if you
17:00ever seen the movie Antoine fiser I
17:02wrote my last paper about him Denzel
17:06asks him to open up and he's asking him
17:08a question it takes three
17:10sessions it was three sessions before he
17:12opened up and you he said tell me about
17:15your
17:16dad and tears began to fall down my face
17:22because I said I don't know if I can
17:26openly talk about this and he said says
17:29you're safe in here because even in
17:32church we don't feel
17:34safe because sometimes the church does a
17:38masterful job at not
17:40restoring
17:42Jesus come on now that's
17:47true so in order for the man to open up
17:51he not only has to feel safe he has to
17:55believe that you are
17:57safe and sometimes it's difficult for us
18:01to do that because let me tell you some
18:03ladies our emotions is our most prized
18:07possessions when we open up we are
18:10giving everything cuz see it's easy for
18:15you to be vulnerable and to be open
18:17because it's what you do women talk you
18:21talk through processing or should I say
18:23you process through
18:26talking we process through
18:29silence most men have to think before
18:33they respond and because we don't
18:35respond like you you think we don't have
18:37anything to say in fact you have so many
18:42words that we're often trying to think
18:44about the correct way to say it and it
18:47doesn't come out how you want it to
18:49sound so you know what that brother says
18:55nothing he says nothing
18:59and I never forget a brother saying to
19:01me imagine being in a house with your
19:04mouth duct tape and you're
19:08screaming say that
19:10again imagine being in your house and
19:13there's duct tape over your mouth and
19:15you're
19:16screaming and no one hears
19:19you and there are some men that are
19:22sitting next to you right now I can feel
19:24it in the room even as praise and
19:26worship was going on I can feel men
19:29literally they're here but they're not
19:32here wow wow wow wow and and and we
19:38we're going to pray with them in just a
19:40minute that's why I really believe today
19:42is a breakthrough for the guys when we
19:45were talking you mentioned the
19:48importance of our head being in sync
19:51with our heart could you talk a little
19:53bit about that absolutely um if I I I
19:57want to say that word heart I want to
19:59say if I'm not wrong the word heart is
20:02mentioned in the Bible about 288 times
20:04if I'm not mistaken um and if you notice
20:09God often deals with the heart of man
20:14all throughout the Bible yes and what we
20:18have done in Ministry is we have tried
20:21to save souls and not restore the minds
20:24and the
20:25heart and the heart and the mind work
20:28intrinsic together and believe it or not
20:31we think the brain send messages to the
20:33heart in fact the heart send messages to
20:36the
20:37head so you can shout all day but if you
20:40ain't repair that heart
20:42wound you're not
20:46free and I never forget in school my
20:50professor says you you know you play pro
20:52ball like why does this interest you I
20:55said because I watch parents in Ministry
20:58I
20:59watch this story I'll be really quick
21:02with this my mom was Pentecostal and so
21:05every service was lit it was going
21:10up uh and there was a lady that was at
21:13the altar every Sunday and I said Mama
21:16why is I'm going to call this lady Miss
21:20Shirley I hope nobody name is
21:22[Laughter]
21:25Shirley she was at the altar Bishop
21:29every
21:30Sunday and she was at the altar and I
21:33overheard my mom talking to a sister
21:35that miss that sister Shirley had a sex
21:40demon uh in Laban terms she was
21:45promiscuous so and I said oh that's
21:47interesting because in my mind as a kid
21:49I'm like you go up one time and you
21:51should be free but I noticed I was a
21:54very precocious kid you know I gave my
21:57first sermon at 9: so I was locked in to
22:00what was happening and I said that just
22:02doesn't add up to me because I'm like
22:04after you go one time that should be it
22:06right why is she there every
22:08Sunday when I got
22:11older my mom found out and they realized
22:15she was being molested by she was
22:19molested by an
22:21uncle and let me tell you something and
22:23this is why faith and psychology has to
22:25have space in church
22:29[Applause]
22:31when you experience trauma and we'll go
22:35to the slide that's that I have a trauma
22:37there three types of trauma you have
22:40acute
22:41trauma that is a single
22:46event sister MD had a single event that
22:50happened with an
22:52uncle that
22:54became a traumatic experience that
22:58Contin to be perpetuated that open up a
23:02sensory so when we experience trauma it
23:05rewires the brain from its natural
23:07functioning she was Touched by an uncle
23:10that was supposed to be protecting That
23:12was supposed to be loving when we have
23:15experience that we're not supposed to
23:17have it opens up a
23:19century so what they call a sex demon
23:23was really a traumatic response she
23:25wasn't chasing sex she was chasing the
23:29sensory so which is why when somebody is
23:32an addict it's not the drug the brain
23:35wants to be rewarded for the
23:37high so what I realized is that you guys
23:43was praying for her to stop sleeping
23:44with people but nobody never thought to
23:46deal with what happened to her wow
23:53wow so wow when we have a traumatic
23:57experience that happen it causes a
24:00deficiency in our
24:03heart I never love a man
24:07again brother gets disappointed I never
24:10open up
24:11again you get let down
24:14abandonment I did this at The Potter's
24:17House I did a scenario where I remember
24:20sitting on the step waiting for my
24:21father and he never
24:24came and it took almost 20 some years to
24:27be open to to mentorship from men
24:30because my brain had a memory of a man
24:33never coming
24:35back so it was difficult for me to build
24:39friendship with Brothers even playing
24:41ball because I said no I trust you as a
24:43teammate but I don't trust you outside
24:45this locking
24:46room because I had already experienced
24:49something that told me that no man will
24:51ever keep his
24:54word so when we have these experience
24:58what God is talking to us about and you
25:00hear Solomon says guard your heart we
25:03often think about guard in our heart so
25:06we don't have any what he's saying is
25:08that if you don't guard your heart what
25:10happens that impacted your heart would
25:13now determine the rest of your life
25:15which is why he say out of it flows the
25:17issues of Life yes then Jesus comes back
25:21and says out of the heart the mouth
25:25speaks right so whatever is unre resolve
25:28in your heart is now processed through
25:31your head which is now carried out
25:33through your language that's good that's
25:35good some people are not negative they
25:37have not found resolve in what has
25:40damaged their heart
25:42J that causes them to speak that way wow
25:46and that's why it's been this unique
25:50dichotomy to marry the two because you
25:54can't have faith with the absence of
25:57Mental Health
25:58because when God created us he had our
26:00mind body and spirit and
26:02mind and if you're not careful and he's
26:05talking in Genesis where God himself
26:08says the heart is
26:10deceitful who knows the heart he said I
26:14test
26:16man then later on he has Samuel to say
26:20don't look at what they look like on the
26:22outside yes sir looking at the heart so
26:26as you are healing and as you're trying
26:29to repair whatever traumas whether it's
26:32acute whether it's a chronic it's
26:33repetive and then whether it's a complex
26:36It's A Mir of different things meaning
26:38that you had this happen you had that
26:40happen and then you had something else
26:43happen that is created and what we do
26:45church people is we'll throw Jesus all
26:48on it that's true it's true and we'll do
26:51that so we don't have to do the
26:54work but if you don't do the work what
26:57you do in here doesn't follow you that's
27:00true that's true that's true which is
27:03why you can come in here and fall out
27:05and go right out there and act a
27:08fool because again this has become a
27:14mask I often see Church Bishop as a
27:17masquerade
27:19party yes mask that's mask something yes
27:23that's true it's tough to receive it but
27:27it's true true and the results and the
27:30reason behind it the results are
27:32there a lot of us are not really being
27:37transformed we're
27:39excited we go through the the motion but
27:43real transformation is not happening
27:46because exactly what you said and we
27:48don't do what David did MH he said God
27:51examine my
27:52heart you have to examine your heart wow
27:57there was a a lady years ago that was in
27:59my
28:01practice and she did not believe that
28:06she could be restored or
28:09transformed and the reason that she
28:11didn't believe that because of an
28:14experience that she had with her parent
28:17she saw God to be the same as her
28:20parents and she didn't know how to
28:23differentiate because of the trauma my
28:26traumatic experience showed told me that
28:28Mom and Dad only rewarded me when I was
28:32good and if I am believer I know that
28:34I'm falling short and I would never be
28:37good so I don't think that God ever
28:39loves me so I now live in performing
28:43mode wow so I got to shout I got to
28:45perform I got to give him some praise
28:47and not realizing that doesn't move god
28:49wow wow wow and helping her to
28:54understand and to understand in the
28:56pathway that you're seeing God the same
28:58as you saw your parents but once we
29:01cleared the pathway that God is not them
29:04wow she was able to understand that God
29:08sees her for her and not based on how
29:11good she is because I don't care how
29:13good we are we can never be good enough
29:16to earn his love wow wow so just us
29:20being but then this is where you get
29:22people
29:23pleasing syndrome and we do it with God
29:27MH and we can't fully show up and to
29:30really have transformative experience
29:33with God to really see God for himself
29:35and that was my reason I said God I
29:38don't want to see you through
29:40religion CU that's we we do that so well
29:43we do it so well I mean we do it so well
29:47and um I I just have two more questions
29:49because I really want us to get to the
29:51men to pray for them we do that so well
29:55being a PK yourself and you still love
29:59God you're still a Christian now God I
30:03believe God has brought you into the
30:05kingdom with your level of
30:08expertise as a
30:11counselor um man the guys are at the
30:15edge of their seat right now to this
30:19question how can you just get us to the
30:23point where we just go get the help man
30:28yeah how do we do that cuz they're
30:31listening God's touching them they know
30:34it even the woman next to them I don't
30:37know how many times she has already
30:38nudged them throughout the
30:40service yeah so ladies just leave that
30:42man alone just stop touching him but
30:45what can you do man to just do it get to
30:51the place where you go get the help so
30:53Brothers I I want to speak to this
30:55question
31:00and this is going to be a trigger
31:04Warning by the time I was 31 man I had
31:07experienced so much
31:11pain I had a
31:13stepfather who was a
31:15minister who was physically
31:19abusive I moved out of my house at 16
31:22with a white family and stayed with them
31:25for two
31:26years until I finished high
31:30school I was so angry man I was so
31:34angry one night my stepfather was asleep
31:39and I had plotted to kill him to take
31:42his
31:44life he was asleep and I stood over him
31:49I had this sharp
31:51Trophy and I was watching his chest go
31:54up and
31:56down and all All I Can Do Was see this
31:59trophy piercing through his flesh and
32:02him no longer breathing because I was
32:04tired of him coming in my room beating
32:07on
32:08me he had his own
32:13issues and that anger manifested and
32:16metastasized into so many different
32:19things that when I would put my football
32:21helmet
32:22on I never saw another opponent Ever I
32:26Saw My Father
32:29face I saw my stepfather's
32:33face and my coach asked me one time I
32:35was on the sideline he said to me are
32:38you ready to go and tears was that's I
32:41was so
32:42emotional and he looked at my eyes and
32:45he said there's nobody
32:47home I said ain't nobody there
32:51man and I carried this all of my 20s
33:00and I'm on the phone with my
33:05parents and my father says here we go
33:09again because I bow of depression nobody
33:11knew what it
33:13was he said I told you yall to pray
33:15about it y'all need to pray for that
33:19boy and I said I'm
33:22done I said I'm really done this time I
33:24said I'm tired as I know many of you
33:27Brothers in here tired and cuz you can
33:29still be showing up to work and be

33:51the drinking I wasn't in the women like

34:04life there's a huge possibility that you
34:07may end up in

34:14care where I go as long as it's pain
34:18stop people
34:21don't take their lives because they're
34:24tired of
34:25living they're usually tired TI of the
34:30pain and I'm sharing this I don't know

34:39brothers and I have this encounter with
34:45God I had took I don't know how many
34:48type of pills I had a back injury in
34:50football so I was taking
34:52cating I was taking all type of pain
34:56medication I've mix everything and I
34:58said I'm
34:59done and when my godmother found me I
35:03was shocked that I
35:05live wow I was
35:09shocked and I had an encounter some
35:12would say A Spiritual
35:14Awakening Jesus came into my
35:19room the presence when he walked into
35:22the room I could not bear the weight of
35:26it I was fall into my knees crying
35:30praise God and I said you have to make
35:34this
35:35stop because it was a repetitive cycle
35:39bless you because what you don't heal
35:42the enemy will use it against you yes
35:45sir yes
35:49sir what you
35:51don't
35:53reveal stays hidden and then the enemy
35:57will use that very thing and get you to
36:01forfeit your
36:05destiny Moses is making into the
36:07promised land because he was a bad
36:09person something that he hid in the
36:11desert many many many years
36:14ago when he killed the Egyptian out of
36:19anger for what he was doing to his
36:22people isn't it
36:25strange that when God told him to speak
36:28to the Rock the same anger that caused
36:30him to kill a man was the same anger
36:33that caused him to hit the
36:35rock and many of you are hitting things
36:38that God is calling you to speak

37:23worse and so the enemy takes you on this

37:29and until you fall to your knees and

38:51it and I had to surrender that thing and

38:58being buried but it's actually you being
39:02planted because we don't want to
39:04surrender because we have to give up
39:12control and the reality of it Brothers

39:32because God spoke to me in 2015 and he
39:35said go back to school I was 33 years
39:39old when I went back to get my
39:41masters he said something is coming and
39:43you're going to be
39:45needed and do you know this book was
39:47birthed right after George Floyd's death
39:51and here I come emerging as this voice
39:53of black men and mental health and I
39:56said
39:58is what you said earlier it never makes
40:00sense but when you can trust his
40:03character when you don't understand his
40:05methods yes you understand that there's
40:08something greater than yourself and I'm
40:11understanding why did you save
40:14me yes not realizing that my healing was
40:17going to heal my father wow

40:28there's a
40:30generational healing that's needing to
40:32take place yes yes I mean
40:36generational because we have children
40:39that are suffering from things that they
40:41have no idea why they're suffering wow
40:45that's so good when they begin studying
40:47epigenetics back in the late 70s early
40:5080s they began studying epic genetics
40:53because they were studying
40:55intergenerational and transgenerational
40:57trauma they was trying to see if trauma
41:00can be passed through
41:02DNA and they found out that it could so
41:06they study some mice by introducing the
41:09mice to a scent that created fear in the
41:13mice they went two generations they
41:16skipped the children and went to the
41:18grandchildren of the
41:20mice they exposed the scent to these
41:24mice wasn't exposed directly
41:27these mices had a fear of the SC and
41:31they weren't there so what they realize
41:34is that trauma is passed down through
41:36our DNA through our behavior and it's
41:39expressed through our
41:41genes so what am I saying Brothers what
41:45you don't transcend you
41:50transmit my God that's good that's good
41:55well I think it's the perfect time to
41:57pray for the
41:59brothers um you you just have a few
42:02books out in the lobby letters to a
42:04young queen I'm so sorry we didn't have

46:57but today I'm praying that that burden

47:04longer feel like you have to perform and
47:07I get it we are judged and critiqued
47:10about how we can produce how we can
47:13perform and how we can protect but
47:15Brothers I want you to understand that

47:21at different
47:23levels we're all at different spaces in
47:26our life where for some it's Financial
47:29some is mental some is emotional some is
47:32trying to recover I went to jail and I'm
47:34trying to get to my life together some
47:35you may have transition out of sports
47:37some it's just like man I ain't never
47:39had nobody in my life to speak into my
47:42life cuz I know what that's
47:44like to look around and see seven uncles
47:48and not one says nephew I see something
47:51in
47:52you and I'm telling you I see something
47:56in you and it's within reach yes sir

48:02you are no longer thinking that what if
48:04I fail you're saying what if I succeed

48:42he'll go sit in his car and roll a blunt
48:45just so he can ease his

48:49moment I walk in his house I got to put

48:54how he's feeling yes yes not how he's
48:58doing cuz to me and to us it's
49:01associated with performing but when you
49:04ask him how he's feeling he's got to
49:06take a pause and he's got to check and
49:09let me tell you something brother your
49:11emotions matter yes your feelings matter

52:35but I knew God had me there for a reason

52:42full-time college

64:26toward God and it brings God toward us
64:30so what I'm praying is that as you are
64:32navigating your journey your athlete yes
64:35as you're navigating that Journey that
64:38you're not doing it
64:39alone that as you lean into what you're
64:42doing I'm praying that you lean more
64:44into God does that make sense and that
64:48way you don't feel that it's
64:50you that's good you follow me that's

64:56what what are you a junior senior junior
64:58you're junior you got a scholarship yet
65:00no I'm in college right now you're in
65:02college right now okay um what what is
65:04your aspiration Beyond College uh to be
65:07a pilot okay yeah I don't know why I
65:10just saw wings or something like that so
65:12but uh God is going to do great things
65:14with you and he's going to do it in a
65:17way that you will have a hand in it but
65:21you also want to know that it was his
65:23hand that orchestrated
65:31and I even see you cuz you're a leader
65:34and I see that God is going to use you
65:37to bring young people into a space where
65:41they can get their lives together and
65:43you going to be able to share your
65:44wisdom with them I see you have this
65:46affinity for the Youth and you really
65:49care about them in a way because it's
65:51also a part of what you didn't receive
65:55and so God is going to use you in that
65:56way but I'm going to pray that God keeps
65:59you on that path and that there are men
66:02that are surrounding you as you stay on
66:04your journey cuz let me tell you
66:06something the enemy does not want men to
66:09find their

69:57not fall apart in the world and then you
69:59go home and you feel like you can't fall
70:01apart because you'll be judged if you

70:04apart and you'll be critiqued but I'm
70:07praying that you find safe spaces where
70:10you can pray with another brother and

70:14thinking about smoking a blunt rather

70:27is that if you can't get to a social
70:30worker you can get to the greatest
