0:47your attention the Shunammite woman.
0:51How God has remained faithful then and
0:54even to still today.
0:57Because I saw Sister Alexandria came up
0:59here this morning and testified
1:02that God remains faithful.
1:06God remains faithful. Hallelujah. She
1:10could even walk or talk.
1:12And she's up here testifying. Who could
1:15it be but Jesus?
1:17Who could it be but Jesus? Hallelujah.
1:22His mercies are new every morning.
1:26Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto
1:29me.
1:31A God who cannot fail.
1:34All right. Congregation, you can be
1:36seated.
1:37>> [laughter]
1:40>> There is one word that has been the
1:42anchor of the people of God.
1:45Through every storm, every valley,
1:48every midnight season,
1:51that word is faithfulness.
1:54Not a mood,
1:56not a policy,
1:57not a sometimes yes, sometimes no
2:01response
2:03from heaven.
2:05God's faithfulness is is his nature.
2:08And what is in his nature cannot be
2:11removed. Amen.
2:13Hallelujah.
2:14Today we are going to travel back into
2:16ancient Israel and sit with a woman
2:19whose name we are never told.
2:21The Bible simply calls her the
2:23Shunammite woman because she came from
2:25Shunem.
2:27Amen.
2:28But her story, preserved in 2 Kings 4
2:31and 8 chapter 8,
2:33is one of the most complete portraits of
2:36God's faithfulness anywhere in
2:38scripture.
2:39In her story,
2:41we will see God fulfill the impossible,
2:44restores what was lost,
2:46and protect her through crisis.
2:50Not once, but repeatedly,
2:53across years of her life.
2:55And what I want you to understand is
2:58this,
3:00the God who was faithful to the
3:01Shunammite woman is the same God who is
3:05faithful to you today.
3:07His track record does not change.
3:11His covenant does not expire.
3:14His love does not grow cold.
3:18Before we step into our story,
3:20we must anchor our hearts in a solid
3:22theological understanding of what we
3:25mean when we declare God is faithful.
3:29The Hebrew word most translated as
3:31faithfulness is emunah,
3:34meaning firmness, steadiness,
3:37reliability, and truth.
3:40It carries the image of a bedrock,
3:43immovable, unchanging, and load-bearing.
3:47Hallelujah, church. Hallelujah.
3:51It is not a reaction to our behavior.
3:54It is not earned by your performance.
3:58It is rooted in what who God is.
4:01Christ is our solid foundation on which
4:05we build our lives. Amen.
4:07Hallelujah church.
4:09Know, therefore, that the Lord your God
4:12is God.
4:13He is faithful is He is the faithful
4:16God, keeping His covenant of love to a
4:19thousand generation.
4:22If we are faithless,
4:24He remains faithful,
4:27for He cannot disown Himself.
4:30Amen.
4:31God cannot be unfaithful because to be
4:35unfaithful,
4:36it He would have to be contradict His
4:39whole nature.
4:41He would have to become someone He's
4:43not, and that is impossible.
4:46This is not a God who forgets.
4:49This is not a God who moves the goal
4:52post. This is the I Am.
4:56The same yesterday,
4:58today, and forevermore. Hallelujah.
5:02In today's world, faithfulness is rare.
5:06Relationships collapse.
5:09Institutions fail.
5:12friends disappoint,
5:14employers let you go,
5:16social media shows us a world of broken
5:19promises
5:20and fractured commitments.
5:23But into that brokenness,
5:26as Lamentations 3:22 and 23 says,
5:30declares, "His mercies never come to an
5:33end.
5:34They are new every morning.
5:37Great is your faithfulness."
5:41In a culture of disposability,
5:44God is immovable.
5:46Amen.
5:47Hallelujah.
5:49Where are you tempted to doubt God's
5:51faithfulness right now?
5:54In your health?
5:56In your finances?
5:58Your family?
6:00Record it and bring it to God.
6:04Saying, "I choose to trust you that you
6:07are faithful here."
6:09Amen.
6:11My first dimension,
6:13honoring God before the blessing.
6:16The story opens with a woman means means
6:19in with means in Shunem.
6:22She is well-to-do, prosperous,
6:24comfortable.
6:26But she is also discerning.
6:29She recognizes that the prophet Elisha
6:32is a holy man of God.
6:35And she does something remarkable.
6:38Before she has ever received anything
6:40from God, she begins begins investing in
6:44the things of God.
6:47"Let's make a small room on the roof and
6:50put in it a bed, a table, a chair, and a
6:55lamp for him.
6:57Then he can he he can he can stay there
7:00whenever he comes to us. That's 2 Kings
7:034 verse 10.
7:06A dedicated room, furnished, available.
7:10She builds a prophet's chamber out of
7:12pure devotion. No agenda.
7:15No expectation of a reward.
7:19When Elisha asked, "What can be done for
7:21her?"
7:23She has no wish list ready.
7:25She simply says, "I have a home among my
7:29own people." She's content.
7:32This is one of the most convicting
7:34aspect of her faith.
7:36She was not serving God to manipulate a
7:39blessing.
7:42She was not giving in order to get.
7:46She served because she recognized the
7:48holy man the holiness of the man of God.
7:51Amen.
7:52Hallelujah.
7:54God remembers every act of devotion.
7:58No matter how small you think it is.
8:01He keeps good records. Amen.
8:04The Shunammite woman provided a room and
8:07food for Elisha.
8:09With no thought of reward.
8:12And God's response highlights that he
8:15remembers every act of devotion.
8:19And honors faith-filled hospitality.
8:22Nothing done in his name is forgotten.
8:26Not the late nights you served in the
8:28church.
8:30Not the offerings you give in sacrifice.
8:33Not the prayers prayed in secret. God
8:37sees them all. Amen. Hallelujah. God is
8:42not unjust.
8:44HE WILL NOT FORGET your work.
8:46And and the love you have shown him as
8:50you help his people. That's recorded in
8:53Hebrews 6.
8:55Are you serving God with your whole
8:57heart.
8:59Even before your breakthrough.
9:03How can you invest in the God's kingdom
9:05this week with no agenda?
9:09Simply because he is worthy. Hallelujah.
9:13Hallelujah church.
9:15Consider one act of act of devotion this
9:18week. Volunteering.
9:21Giving. Praying for someone else's
9:23miracle.
9:25My second dimension fulfilling the
9:27impossible.
9:30Elisha begins to wonder, what can we
9:34what can we be done for this woman?
9:36Who has given so much.
9:39Her His servant Gehazi notices that she
9:43perhaps notices something that she
9:46perhaps never voiced aloud.
9:49She has no son.
9:51And her husband is old.
9:54The woman had carried a grief never come
9:57never she never complained about.
9:59She had not stormed the prophet's door
10:01with her pain.
10:03She simply served quietly carrying a
10:06longing only God could see.
10:10About this time next year, Elisha said,
10:13"You will hold a son in your arms."
10:17Her response is deeply human.
10:20"No, my lord.
10:22Please don't mislead your servant."
10:26She was not faithless.
10:29She had been hurt before by hope.
10:32She had perhaps waited too so long
10:35that she had thought to herself not to
10:38wait anymore.
10:40But God through his servant spoke over
10:43her barrenness.
10:45A specific
10:47timed personal promise.
10:50And exactly 1 year later,
10:53she held a son.
10:56As God fulfilled a blessing beyond her
10:58wildest dreams, confirming that his
11:01faithfulness is not limited by natural
11:04law
11:05or human circumstances.
11:08Her husband was old or her womb was
11:11barren,
11:12but God's word
11:14was more powerful than her biology.
11:18God sees what you carry in silence.
11:23Some of you are carrying things you have
11:25never told anyone.
11:27You haven't complained.
11:30You haven't made your need public.
11:33You've kept showing up, kept serving,
11:36kept worshiping,
11:38and God has seen every private tear,
11:42every silent prayer,
11:44every hope you quietly laid down.
11:48Before they call, I will answer.
11:52While they are still speaking, I will
11:54hear. Isaiah 65.
11:58What have you silent surrendered
12:00silently surrendered to God?
12:03Perhaps doubting
12:05it could it could
12:07ever come never come to pass,
12:10but
12:11bring it to the altar today.
12:14The God who sees saw the Shunammite
12:17woman empty his empty arms
12:19sees your empty places, too.
12:22Hallelujah.
12:25How many knows
12:26that life
12:28and
12:29that life happens,
12:31and we face many storms.
12:33Sometimes those we cannot see coming.
12:37The child grows,
12:39and then one morning he collapsed in the
12:41field. By noon, he is dead in his
12:44mother's arms.
12:46The very gift
12:48God gave her is gone.
12:50What do you do when the very blessing
12:53God gave you dies?
12:55When the marriage
12:57he ordained begins to crumble.
13:00When the ministry he called you to
13:02suddenly collapses.
13:04When the child you prayed for stops
13:07walking with God. Hallelujah.
13:11Lay it all on the altar of sacrifice
13:14today.
13:15Hallelujah.
13:16Hallelujah.
13:18Notice what she does. She carries her
13:21dead son up to Elisha's room, the
13:24prophet's chamber,
13:25and lays him on the bed of the man of
13:28God. She shuts the door
13:31and goes out. This is one of the most
13:33powerful acts of faith in the entire Old
13:36Testament.
13:37She placed her tragedy on the altar.
13:41She put the very thing that was broken
13:45in the holiest place she knew.
13:47Hallelujah.
13:50Don't bury your promise
13:52before you you've brought it to God.
13:56She hadn't given up.
13:58She placed the situation in the hands of
14:01the one who gave the promise in the
14:03first place.
14:06On the way to Elisha, when Gehazi runs
14:10to ask if everything is all right,
14:13her son is lying dead at home, remember?
14:16She declares three extraordinary words.
14:20It is well.
14:22Can you imagine?
14:23It is well.
14:25The Hebrew behind this is shalom.
14:29Peace,
14:30wholeness completeness.
14:33How could she say shalom when her son
14:36was dead?
14:38Because she had a revelation of God's
14:40character
14:42that transcended her circumstances.
14:46She was not in denial,
14:49but in in God who gives the blessing.
14:53As one scholar notes, her famous
14:56declaration in the face of her son's
14:58death shows a mature trust in God's
15:01character
15:02over our current pain.
15:05A reminder to focus on God's past
15:08faithfulness
15:10rather than the urgency of her trial.
15:14She was saying, "The God who opened my
15:17womb
15:18did not bring this son into the world to
15:21simply take him away.
15:23I trust his faithfulness.
15:27You will keep him in perfect peace whose
15:30mind are steadfast because they trust in
15:35you. Hallelujah.
15:37True biblical peace is not the absence
15:39of a storm
15:41in no way or no form.
15:43It is the settled confidence that God is
15:46in control in spite of the storm.
15:51The Shunammite's "It is well"
15:54was not wishful thinking.
15:56It was theologically grounded trust.
16:01Active persistence
16:03that moves faith. Amen.
16:07But her faith was not passive.
16:10She did not sit at home in grief.
16:13She saddled a donkey
16:15and rode urgently to Mount Carmel
16:18to find the man of God.
16:20She refused to be turned away.
16:23When she reached Elisha, she grabbed his
16:26feet and would not let go until he came
16:30with her.
16:31Amen. Amen.
16:34Her faith was not passive.
16:37She actively sought the source of her of
16:40her miracle.
16:43Refusing to leave Elisha until a
16:46solution was found.
16:48This is apostolic faith in action.
16:53You pursue the presence of God with
16:56urgency.
16:58You do not quit at the first obstacle.
17:02The kingdom of heaven has been subjected
17:05to force.
17:06And forceful people lay hold of it.
17:10Recorded in Matthew 11.
17:13Elisha stretches over the dead.
17:16Elisha arrives.
17:18He goes into the room. He closes the
17:20door.
17:21He prays. Then he stretches himself
17:24completely over the child.
17:26Mouth to mouth. Eyes to eyes. Hands to
17:29hands.
17:31The boy's body grows warm.
17:34He sneezes seven times.
17:37The number of completion.
17:39And opens his eyes.
17:42This is a picture of intercession.
17:45The man of God had to give himself
17:48completely to what was dead.
17:51And this scene points forward to the
17:54ultimate act of intercession.
17:57Jesus Christ stretches stretching
17:59himself
18:00over a dead humanity on the cross.
18:04Breaking breathing life into what sin
18:07had killed. Amen.
18:10Hallelujah Jesus. Hallelujah.
18:13Elisha then calls the Shunammite woman.
18:17And speaks three words.
18:19That carry the full weight of God's
18:22faithfulness.
18:23Take your son.
18:25What God gave, God restored.
18:29The promise did not die.
18:32It only was delayed.
18:35And what the enemy tried to steal, God
18:37reclaimed.
18:39And And we know in that in all things
18:43God works for the good of those who love
18:46him,
18:47who have been called according to his
18:49purpose.
18:51What situation have you mentally buried
18:54that God
18:56that God may still be able to resurrect?
19:00Before you give up,
19:02place it on the altar one more time.
19:05The altar is open.
19:08Before
19:10One more time, I say,
19:12faith shows God,
19:14"You gave me this, and I am laying it
19:18before you again."
19:20My fourth dimension pro-
19:22protection through crisis.
19:25The story of the Shunammite woman does
19:27not end in chapter 4.
19:29God's faithfulness to her continues in 2
19:32Kings chapter 8.
19:35And this is the part that is often
19:37overlooked.
19:39Elisha warns her 7-year a 7-year famine
19:43is coming.
19:44"Leave your land, take your family, and
19:46go."
19:48She obeys immediately.
19:50She packs up and leaves everything
19:53behind
19:54and spends 7 years away from her home
19:57and property in the land of the
19:59Philistines.
20:017 years, no guarantee of what she'd
20:04return to,
20:06no legal protection for her abandoned
20:08land,
20:10just the word of the prophet and a God
20:13and a God who had already proven himself
20:17faithful.
20:19When the 7 years 7 years ended and she
20:23returned,
20:24she goes to the king to appeal for her
20:26house and land.
20:29And here is where God's faithfulness
20:31takes your breath away.
20:34At the very moment she walks through the
20:36door,
20:37the very moment Gehazi is already
20:40standing before the king telling him the
20:43story of the Shunammite woman
20:46and how God raised her son from the
20:48dead.
20:50As Gehazi was telling the king how
20:53Elisha restored her dead son to life,
20:56the woman whose son Elisha had restored
20:59came to appeal to the king for her house
21:02and land.
21:03Gehazi said, "This is the woman.
21:07My lord the king,
21:10and this is your her son whom Elisha
21:14restored to life."
21:15The king had asked the woman about it
21:18and she told him.
21:20Then he assigned an official to her case
21:23and said to him,
21:25"Give back everything that belonged to
21:28her
21:29including all her income
21:33from her land from the day she left the
21:36country until now. What a God!
21:39What a God!
21:42Not just her land restored, but 7 years
21:45worth of lost income.
21:48God didn't just meet her need. He
21:51exceeded it.
21:52He orchestrated what appeared to be
21:55coincidence,
21:56but in truth was a divine appointment.
22:00Her testimony
22:02had been in the king's court before she
22:04ever arrived.
22:07God goes ahead of you.
22:09Hallelujah.
22:12This is what the faithfulness of God
22:14looks like over the course of our lives.
22:18He doesn't respond to our crisis.
22:21He anticipates it.
22:23He prepares the table before the enemy
22:26can lay a trap. Amen.
22:30He moves in halls and corridors you've
22:34never entered.
22:36He's already working on your behalf in
22:39rooms you haven't even walked into yet.
22:43The Lord will fight for you.
22:45You need only to be still.
22:49A man's heart
22:51plans his ways,
22:53but the Lord directs his steps.
22:57What looks like coincidence to others is
23:00God's faithfulness
23:02working behind the scenes on your
23:04behalf.
23:05Your obedience opened doors
23:09you didn't even know existed.
23:12The Shunammite's willingness to leave,
23:15to trust and obey in the face of loss,
23:18positioned her for a restoration that
23:21exceeded everything she lost. Amen.
23:26Has God ever orchestrated what seemed
23:28like coincidence in your life?
23:31The right person showing up,
23:34the right door opening
23:37at exactly the right time.
23:42Take a moment today to trace the hand of
23:45God in your story.
23:47Share this testimony with someone who
23:50needs to hear it.
23:51Amen. Hallelujah.
23:55Here's a profound thread running through
23:58this entire story
24:00that we must not miss. The Shunammite
24:03woman received miracle after miracle.
24:06A son born from a barren womb,
24:09the son raised from the dead,
24:12her land and income supernaturally
24:14restored to her.
24:16But look carefully what drove in drove
24:19her in her crisis.
24:21She did not run to a government office.
24:24She didn't post her pain on social
24:27media.
24:28She didn't spiral into despair.
24:31In every crisis, she ran to the man of
24:34God.
24:36She ran to the source.
24:39Her primary focus was not the miracle.
24:42It it it was her relationship with the
24:45God behind the miracle.
24:49As this passage illustrates many
24:51miracles,
24:52her primary focus was on her
24:54relationship with the holy man of God.
24:57Teaching that true worshipers rely on
25:01God himself.
25:03Rather than than just his servants or
25:06his blessings. She wanted the giver, not
25:09the gift.
25:11Only one thing have I asked from the
25:13Lord.
25:14This only do I seek.
25:17That I may dwell in the house of the
25:19Lord all the days of my life.
25:24To gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.
25:27And to seek him in his temple.
25:30Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
25:33In today's prosperity driven culture,
25:36there is a there is a real danger of
25:39seeking the hand of God more than the
25:41face of God.
25:43We come to church for a miracle.
25:47There's nothing wrong with them with
25:49that.
25:50We see we saw one this morning with
25:52sister Alexandria.
25:56But, the Shunammite teaches us
25:58that the foundation of our faith is not
26:01what God give you. It's who God is to
26:04you.
26:05When the miracle fades,
26:08when the blessing is delayed,
26:11when the answer hasn't come,
26:14what keeps you?
26:17It must be the intimacy.
26:20It must be the relationship.
26:24It must be the God who is faithful
26:27even when we cannot see the outcome yet.
26:32Don't let your prayer life be driven
26:34only by need.
26:36Cultivate a relationship
26:39with God
26:41in ordinary seasons
26:43so that when the crisis comes, you
26:46already know where to run.
26:49The Shunammite didn't build the
26:51prophet's chamber because she needed
26:53something.
26:54She built it because she recognized the
26:56holy.
26:58Honestly, evaluate your life, your
27:01prayer life this week.
27:03Are you spending more time asking God
27:05for things
27:07We're all guilty for it.
27:09than knowing him?
27:11Set aside 10 minutes today with no
27:14request.
27:16Just worship.
27:18Just presence.
27:19Just gratitude.
27:22Let God be in be enough before he gives
27:25you more.
27:28Let me bring this home today.
27:31The Shunammite woman did not have a
27:34theology degree.
27:36She did not preach from a pulpit.
27:39But she had something that carried her
27:41through every dimension of her story.
27:44She knew who God was.
27:47And she trusted him with the full weight
27:50of her life.
27:52In her story,
27:54we have seen four unshakeable dimensions
27:57of God's faithfulness.
28:00He fulfills the impossible.
28:03When your situation says no,
28:06his word says yes. Hallelujah.
28:10He restores what was lost.
28:13What the enemy steals, God can reclaim.
28:17Amen.
28:18He protects through crisis.
28:21He warns. He guides. He goes ahead of
28:24you. Amen.
28:26Hallelujah. Hallelujah, Jesus.
28:29He honors sincere service.
28:32Every act of devotion done in his name
28:35is remembered.
28:37And binding all of this together is our
28:41fifth truth.
28:43He's He rewards those who seeks him.
28:47Not just his gifts, but him.
28:50The steadfast love of the Lord never
28:53ceases.
28:54His mercies never come to an end.
28:57They are new every morning.
29:00Great is your faithfulness.
29:04Church,
29:05in a world where nothing seems stable,
29:09economies shift, relationships fracture,
29:13health fails,
29:15future feels uncertain,
29:18we have a God whose faithfulness is an
29:21unshakable anchor for our souls. Amen.

29:27You may be sitting here today
29:29with something that feels dead.
29:32A dream,
29:33a relationship,
29:35a calling,
29:36a child,
29:38a hope.
29:40And the enemy is whispering, "It is
29:43over."
29:44But I declare to you,
29:46pick up the spirit of the Shunammite
29:48woman,
29:50laid on the altar,
29:52cry out to Jesus Christ sincerely,
29:55grab hold and do not let go.
29:58Say, "It is well."
30:01Before you even see the answer.
30:04It is well.
30:06Take your son.
30:08Take your dream.
30:10Take your healing.
30:12Take your restoration.
30:14Because he who promised is faithful.
30:18Hallelujah.
30:20If you are in a season
30:22where you do where you need to
30:24experience the faithfulness of God
30:27in your in your body,
30:29your family, your finances, your
30:32calling,
30:33I want to give you invite you to come to
30:36this altar today.
30:38You do not need to have it all figured
30:40out.
30:41You do not need to have perfect faith.
30:45The Shunammite woman
30:46came in bitter distress
30:49and threw herself at the prophet's feet.
30:52Come as you are.
30:54Come with your grief.
30:57Come with your questions.
30:59Come with your empty hands.
31:02Let God meet you at the point of your
31:05need.
31:06He is the same God who opened barren
31:09wombs,
31:10who raised dead sons,
31:12who orchestrates a king audience at
31:15exactly the right time.
31:18He is still
31:20in the business of doing what only he
31:23can do.
31:24He is faithful. Hallelujah, church.

31:30Hallelujah pastor.

32:06in different ways
32:08three times.
32:10Well, the first time it was in staff
32:12devotion a few weeks ago Lady Michelle
32:15Thompson
32:17shared that word in staff devotion.
32:19From my end where I know who is
32:22preaching and what they're preaching
32:23ahead of time, I knew we would hear it
32:26three times.
32:28I believe that God is trying to impress
32:31upon somebody
32:34that life has thrown you a curveball.
32:38Something precious seems to be dying.
32:42A dream, a plan, a call
32:46maybe a a family member, a relationship
32:49may seem to be dying spiritually,
32:51relationally and you may feel like I
