Summary

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the church, Rev. Dr. Omar Williams explores Nehemiah 12 to show that after seasons of weeping and warring, God's people must embrace a season of loud, public, and sacrificial celebration.

Key points
  • Celebration requires intentional readiness and consecration, as seen when the Levites and the people purified themselves and the walls before the dedication.
  • Public praise is a necessary response to God's faithfulness; the Israelites' rejoicing was so loud it could be heard from afar, serving as a testimony to the surrounding regions.
  • Walking on the walls was a symbolic act of reclaiming territory and a physical rebuttal to the critics (Sanballat and Tobiah) who said the walls would crumble.
  • True celebration honors the legacy of those who laid the foundation, just as Nehemiah's generation honored the musical and spiritual blueprints left by King David.

Identify a 'wall' or victory in your life that you have taken for granted, and set aside time this week for intentional, vocal praise to God for bringing that season of struggle to an end.

Reflection questions
  1. Are you still dressed in the 'layers' of a past season of mourning even though God has brought you into a new season of joy?
  2. What 'rubbish' or past failures are you still looking at that prevent you from seeing the wall from God's higher perspective?
  3. How can you practically honor the spiritual 'Davids' in your life who laid the foundation for your current blessings?

0:02Hallelujah. Tell them, "You look good
0:04and you smell good.
0:06And I thank God for you.
0:08I thank God for you
0:11in the house. Hallelujah.
0:13Hallelujah.
0:14I want to very quickly just pause to
0:18recognize that
0:20uh the month of June is a very special
0:22[music] month in the life of our church.
0:25And as Bishop Stewart would always say,
0:28June was his month.
0:30That's the month he was born, the first
0:32of the month.
0:33It is a month that God led him to start
0:35to start this church 30 years ago.
0:39And it was this month that God blessed
0:41him with his beautiful bride, Lady
0:43Jennifer Stewart. And we want to thank
0:47God for them. This year they would have
0:49been celebrating 56 years. Can we thank
0:52God for Bishop and Lady Stewart?
0:56We want to thank God for them this
0:58morning. As I was saying in the first
0:59service,
1:01uh as we honor Lady Stewart, that, you
1:03know, there are times when a church will
1:04love on the pastor,
1:06but they'll let the first lady catch
1:07hell.
1:09And
1:10>> [laughter]
1:11>> and I I want to say to us from, you
1:13know, my short time in serving in
1:14ministry as a married man, I want to say
1:18that it's because of the little things
1:21that my wife does in the background that
1:23I can serve effectively. And that's why
1:25I honor her today, Lady Michelle.
1:28And I honor Lady Stewart because I know
1:30that everything that this church has
1:33done and the foundation that we're
1:35standing on is because Bishop had a good
1:38woman of God standing with him.
1:41And so we thank God for them. Thank God
1:43for them this morning. So good to see
1:45you, Lady Antoinette.
1:47She's the eldest daughter of uh my
1:50childhood pastor, Pastor [music] Ambrose
1:52Hind. God rest his soul. And we are so
1:54glad to have you in [music] the house.
1:56Please keep praying for the family.
1:58Uh
1:59Gavin went home
2:01uh in in uh March, February, late
2:03February. And so we want to keep the the
2:05family in [music] in our prayers. I'm
2:08also very delighted today to have some
2:10good friends of mine from my time in
2:12Georgia, and they're still good friends
2:14even to this day.
2:16To the Johnson family, so good to see
2:18you. I heard my wife giving you a
2:21special welcome this morning, but I want
2:22to thank you so much for being here. Uh
2:25we I tell you when I just migrated to
2:27the United States and
2:28uh all my uh before my accent became a
2:31little more polished.
2:33Yes and
2:34and uh uh uh when I didn't have any
2:37friends cuz I left my friends in
2:39>> [music]
2:40>> in Jamaica. And when I uh I used to hang
2:43out on Friday nights with my sister and
2:44her friends before she came back to
2:46church.
2:48So, you know her friends were a little
2:49bit rough around the edges. And they
2:52believed in the spirit, but it was just
2:53not the Holy Spirit.
2:56But, I want to thank God for the Johnson
2:58family. They would have me at their
3:00house.
3:01>> [snorts]
3:01>> And you wouldn't tell like I was there
3:03with Kevin and Jermaine and Nathan and
3:06Jason whenever he would come home from
3:07the military. And [music]
3:10the only reason you could tell I was not
3:11their son, their sons are tall.
3:13That's the only reason you could tell.
3:15Really, a short one? Come on now. All
3:17these boys are tall. So, that's the only
3:20way that you could tell that I was I I
3:21honor you today. 50 years look good.
3:25Lady Norma, could you stand and just
3:26spin around? Yeah, I know you don't
3:28mind. Just Of course.
3:30>> [laughter]
3:33>> So, we want to thank God for you. Want
3:36to thank God for you. Uh
3:38Rev, could you just come Rev, could you
3:39just give us a just a quick minute of
3:41greeting here? Amen. God bless you.
3:45His sons, all his sons, and now his
3:46grandson is in the ministry. So, we want
3:49to thank God. You've done something
3:50right.
3:51>> Praise the Lord, church. I want to thank
3:53God for everything he's done for me. And
3:55I would say he was like one of my sons.
3:57He would like He would come over to the
3:59house. We eat, we pray, we just have a
4:01good time, talk about the scripture. He
4:03just He just always been a true man of
4:06God. And And when I met him, I my heart
4:08just went out to him. I just felt like
4:10And so And Kevin And Kevin, they're like
4:12best buddies, him and Kevin. And so he
4:14was always a good friend. I was glad we
4:16was able to have him come to the house
4:18and just hang out because we like
4:19hanging around Christian people.
4:21And I just thank God for everything that
4:23this church and him and glad to be
4:25worshiping with the family of God this
4:26morning. We brothers and sisters even
4:28though we're in different states and in
4:29different parts of the world, we all
4:30brothers and sisters in Christ. And I
4:32just And just enjoyed being here. And
4:34Brother Wyatt did a great job. And thank
4:37for everything you've done and what you
4:38have done. We just miss him not being
4:40able to preach in Georgia.
4:41Cuz he is a great man of God. I always
4:43love to hear him preach. But we don't
4:45get to hear him more because he got the
4:46church now. But he'll get back down
4:48there. We're waiting.
4:55>> Amen. Amen. I want to call your
4:57attention this morning to this afternoon
5:00until the book of Nehemiah chapter 12.
5:03And we are at verse 27. Nehemiah chapter
5:0712
5:08and verse 27.
5:12And verse 27 reads like this, "Now at
5:14the dedication
5:16of the wall of Jerusalem,
5:18they sought out the Levites in all their
5:21places
5:23to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate
5:25the dedication with gladness,
5:28both with thanksgiving, thank you, and
5:31singing with cymbals and stringed
5:34instruments and harps."
5:38I want to speak to us today as we are
5:40winding up the our sermon series that
5:42we've been in for the last few weeks
5:44>> [music]
5:45>> uh on this
5:47subject today,
5:49the sound of celebration.
5:53The sound
5:54of celebration. Amen.
5:58In the 6th century BC,
6:02the Babylonian army,
6:04led by King Nebuchadnezzar,
6:06leveled the city of Jerusalem
6:09and burned its walls.
6:12And about 444 BC, the Lord raised up
6:15Nehemiah
6:17and called him to return to Jerusalem
6:21to rebuild the walls of the city.
6:25The rebuilding process was long. It was
6:28grueling.
6:29It was heart-rending to survey the
6:32beloved city laying in ruins. It was
6:35physically exhausting to clean up the
6:38rubbish, so much so that Judah, the
6:41praisers, the leaders, lamented, quote,
6:44"The strength of the laborers is
6:46failing, and there is so much rubbish
6:49that we are not able to build the wall."
6:52Unquote.
6:54But, brothers and sisters,
6:56they laid one brick at a time,
6:59while the critics mocked and schemed and
7:01their inner doubts whispered to them,
7:04"Give up. It will not work."
7:07But, I want to say to us that as
7:09arduous, as difficult as the rebuilding
7:12process was,
7:13someday it came to an end.
7:17And then they turned their attention to
7:20rebuilding their broken covenant
7:23relationship
7:25You see, brothers and sisters, when we
7:27are embroiled in rebuilding broken
7:30aspects of our lives, broken ministries,
7:34broken spiritual relationships, broken
7:36family circumstances, broken marriages,
7:40and we're doing this while contending
7:42with the naysayers and our own inner
7:45doubts, it is easy to forget what joy
7:49sounds like.
7:51It is easy to feel like life will always
7:56be like this. Is there anybody in this
7:58house who has ever had to fight through
8:00any battles, deal very long time with
8:03any debilitating circumstances, and
8:05after a while you became so acclimated
8:08to adversity, to the sound of opposition
8:12that you forgot what the sound of
8:14celebration was like. You forgot what it
8:16felt like to felt real to feel real joy
8:20in your lives. Yeah, this is where the
8:23people of God had found themselves. And
8:26sometimes, if we are honest, this is
8:29where we find ourselves.
8:32So long in trouble that we forget that
8:34there is a time for rejoicing.
8:38But the wise King Solomon, in what is
8:41considered to be his most consequential
8:43writing, the book of Ecclesiastes, he
8:46exclaimed to us
8:48to everything there is a season.
8:52A time for every purpose under the sun.
8:56And And as I looked at this particular
8:59text before us in Nehemiah, this this
9:02proverb from Ecclesiastes resonated with
9:06me, especially verses 3 and 4. When he
9:09says, "There's a time to break down and
9:11a time to build up. A time to weep, a
9:14time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a
9:18time to dance." You see, we had watched
9:22the city been broken down by
9:23Nebuchadnezzar. We had watched them
9:25mourn and weep over the rubbles of the
9:28wall. We had watched them work to build
9:31the wall, but the time had come,
9:34hallelujah, for them to relinquish their
9:37mourning and begin to rejoice. The time
9:40had come for them to dance. And I don't
9:42know, very early in the sermon, who in
9:45this house I'm talking to that for a
9:47very long time you have forgotten what
9:50it is like, what it feels like to have
9:52real joy and satisfaction in your heart.
9:56You have doubted, you have been in
9:58despair, you have felt depressed for so
10:00long, but the Lord is saying to you that
10:04it is a time to change the season.
10:07Uh yes, so yes, that that there is about
10:11to be a shift. Somebody shout, "There is
10:13about to be a shift." There is about to
10:16be a shift. For for 11 chapters in our
10:20series so far, we have witnessed the
10:23psycho-emotional,
10:25the physical, and the spiritual toils of
10:28Nehemiah and the Jewish remnant. We had
10:30watched them work and labor and toil,
10:33but let me tell you that in chapter 12,
10:36the dust has finally settled.
10:38Hallelujah. The wall is finally
10:42finished. And I am here to tell somebody
10:45in this house, to declare prophetically
10:47like Jesus declared at the cross, that
10:50that season of mourning and lamenting
10:54and weeping and grieving, that season is
10:57finished. Am I talking to anybody here?
10:59Is there anybody in this house that
11:01right now you can begin to lift your
11:04faith with me in this house. Come on.
11:06Lift your faith up and tell yourself,
11:10"It is finished." Come on. Tell yourself
11:11right now that that season is over.
11:14You've got to get out of here. Weeping
11:16may endure for a night, but my season of
11:20JOY IS ABOUT TO BREAK. DO I HAVE ANY
11:23WITNESSES in the house?
11:25I feel the Holy Ghost in this place.
11:27Yeah, they they had gotten so accustomed
11:30to the rhythm of work, the rhythm of
11:32weeping, the rhythm of waiting, the
11:34rhythm of warring on the walls. So, what
11:37would they do now when the work is
11:41finished, what will they do now when
11:43there is no more need to be depressed,
11:45to be discouraged, to be despondent?
11:47What would they do now that the wall is
11:51complete? Let me tell you what they did.
11:53The Bible said that they had a massive
11:57celebration.
11:58Yeah, they they threw a big party and
12:01praised God so loudly that everybody
12:04around them had to hear their praise.
12:08Leaning for a second, let me tell you
12:09this, Bentab, they are here to teach us
12:11something that when God has brought us
12:14to a massive milestone, when God has
12:17brought us through the fire and through
12:19troubles, and God has sustained us
12:21through the long haul, we owe God a
12:25public praise for all THE HELL THAT GOD
12:28has brought us through through 30 years.
12:31It's not a time for patty-cake private
12:34praise. No, it is A TIME FOR A LOUD
12:37EXCLAMATION OF praise and worship AND
12:41ADORATION TO GOD. I HOPE SOMEBODY IS
12:44GETTING READY IN THIS HOUSE BECAUSE
12:45TODAY is about to get loud. Am I talking
12:47TO ANYBODY HERE? WHY DON'T YOU NUDGE
12:49YOUR NEIGHBOR and say, "NEIGHBOR, TODAY
12:50IS ABOUT TO GET LOUD BECAUSE WHEN I
12:52THINK
12:55OH, I feel the Holy Ghost in this place.
12:57Yeah. When I think of what God has
12:59brought me out of, it's time to throw a
13:02party. It's time to throw a celebration
13:05in THE HOUSE OF OUR GOD.
13:09I feel the Holy Ghost in this place.
13:11They worshiped so loud and so long until
13:14the whole region could not [snorts] help
13:16but take notice of their praise. But But
13:19we see this, before they had the
13:20celebration, the Bible said that they
13:23prepared the worshipers. They had the
13:25firstly the preparation of the
13:27worshipers. In Nehemiah 12 verses 27 to
13:3030, you see, this section establishes
13:33for us that celebration requires
13:36intentional readiness and preparation.
13:41I said celebration requires intentional
13:44readiness and celebration. My wife and
13:47I, we had to do some travels this year
13:49for for funerals and one of them took us
13:51to the city of New York in the month of
13:53March when it was cold. And And you
13:55know, while we were while we were there,
13:58we were layered up because it was cold.
14:00We had on three layers. Lady Antionette,
14:02we are no longer New Yorkers.
14:05We had on three layers plus a thick
14:08heavy coat. We We had to layer up for
14:11the season. It was dark. It was gray. It
14:14was almost depressing. I'm not going to
14:16lie. It was
14:17I I I I had to ask, is this where we
14:19live?
14:20It was almost depressing to be there in
14:22the winter. But But when we got that
14:25flight back home, when we arrived at JFK
14:28for the flight, we were layered up,
14:30three layers plus a jacket. But But
14:33somewhere while we were on the flight
14:35and we began to see the the the sighting
14:38of of Miami or Fort Lauderdale's airport
14:41in view, we knew that we could not come
14:44into this season dressed the way we were
14:47in that season. So, we started
14:49repairing. We started taking some coats
14:51off. Am I talking to anybody here?
14:52Leaning for a second. I want you right
14:55now. The last season had you depressed,
14:58had you frustrated, had you angry, had
15:01you bitter, had you resentful. BUT IS
15:04THERE ANYBODY HERE THAT IS GETTING READY
15:05TO TAKE OFF SOME THINGS RIGHT NOW? COME
15:07ON. We are in A SEASON OF REJOICING AND
15:11I'M HERE TO TELL SOMEBODY, WHATEVER YOU
15:13GOT TO DO TO REPAIR YOUR MIND AND YOUR
15:15HEART, BUT DON'T MISS OUT ON WHAT GOD IS
15:18GETTING READY TO DO.
15:20OH, I feel the Holy Ghost.
15:22They had to prepare the people. They had
15:25to prepare the people. Verses 27 to 29,
15:27they had to prepare the people to
15:29immerse into the worship of God. They
15:32brought them back into the city and then
15:34they went to search for the Levites,
15:37those who would lead the singing and the
15:39worship. They They brought them back,
15:41these men and these men of God who would
15:44lead with gladness and thanksgiving and
15:47singing accompanied by the instruments
15:49of music. They They brought them back to
15:52lead the people of God into worship. God
15:56prepared the singers and the and the the
15:59praise leaders that they could lead the
16:01people into worship. And we must
16:04understand this, brothers and sisters,
16:05we can never outsource our praise and
16:09our worship to our praise leaders. I
16:11thank God for our praise team. Can you
16:12put your hands together for our praise
16:14singers?
16:15Yeah. I thank God for our praise singers
16:17and I and I notice little things about
16:20them. I I I notice uh I notice Dr. Dr.
16:23Gibbs her her dance around the pulpit
16:25when she gets to lead in the worship. I
16:27notice Lady Allison her little cogic jig
16:30right at the pulpit. And Sister Sam, I I
16:32I notice the way that she's able to get
16:34into that into that gut-wrenching moment
16:37and dig the praise out of you. Am I
16:39talking to anybody? BUT HERE IS THE
16:41DEAL. We can't leave our praise and our
16:44worship to a team. I feel the Holy Ghost
16:46in here. NO, NO, NO, BECAUSE GOD HAS
16:49BEEN SO GOOD TO ME. I THANK GOD FOR HOW
16:52YOU SING AND HOW YOU WORSHIP, BUT I GOT
16:55MY OWN PRAISE. AM I TALKING TO ANYBODY?
16:57AND WHEN YOU BEGIN TO SING, I'M GOING TO
16:59BEGIN TO SING BECAUSE I'VE GOT SOMETHING
17:01TO PRAISE GOD FOR.
17:04DO I HAVE ANYBODY IN this house? Give
17:07your neighbor a high five and say,
17:08"Neighbor,
17:09you can praise God for me. I got TO
17:12PRAISE GOD FOR MYSELF BECAUSE YOU DON'T
17:14KNOW WHAT HE'S BROUGHT ME OUT OF. YOU
17:17DON'T KNOW WHAT HE'S PULLED ME THROUGH.
17:19YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT I WALKED THROUGH
17:21THIS WEEK. SO WHEN I GET IN THE HOUSE,
17:23I'VE GOT TO PRAISE
17:26AND I JUST GOT TO GET IT OUT FOR MYSELF.
17:29OH, I FEEL THE HOLY Ghost in here. My
17:32God, it's personal. It's personal. They
17:35had to repair the people. They had to
17:37purify the people and the places in
17:39verse 30. The Bible said that the priest
17:41had to purify the people because you
17:43see, true worship requires a
17:46purification. It requires a
17:48consecration. They They consecrated
17:51themselves to celebrate God. Before we
17:54can truly celebrate the goodness of God,
17:57it might mean that we must consecrate.
18:00We might be able to lift our hands right
18:02now in the sanctuary and say,
18:04"Consecrate me now
18:06to thy service, Lord, by the power of
18:09grace divine. Let my soul look up with a
18:13STEADFAST HOPE AND ALLOW MY WILL to be
18:18lost in thine because I hear Jesus
18:21saying that I'm looking for true
18:23worshipers to worship me. I'm looking
18:25for those who are here, not just to lift
18:27a hand with their eye everywhere, BUT I
18:29WANT somebody who will worship me in
18:31spirit and in truth.
18:34I need somebody, like David said, who
18:36will come before me with a clean hand
18:38AND A PURE HEART AND LIFT UP THEIR SOULS
18:42BEFORE THE GREAT NAME OF OUR GOD. DO I
18:44HAVE ANYBODY IN THIS HOUSE RIGHT NOW WHO
18:47CAN SAY, "THANK GOD FOR THE BLOOD THAT
18:49PURGES, THAT WASHES, THAT CONSECRATES,
18:52THAT PURIFIES?"
18:54OH, I FEEL THE HOLY Ghost in this place.
18:56Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We are They had to be
18:59purified. They purified the people and
19:02they purified the walls like like Moses
19:04taught them how to. They They took the
19:06blood of the sacrifices and and the
19:08water and they sprinkled the people and
19:11they sprinkled the walls and they
19:12sprinkled everything as they dedicated
19:15them to God to show that these things
19:17belong to God. But, here's the the I
19:19don't need the brush of Moses. I don't
19:21need the blood of animals. I don't need
19:23any of that because the lamb of God,
19:26hallelujah, he was wounded for our
19:29transgression.
19:31He was bruised for our iniquity. The
19:33chastisement of my peace was upon him
19:36and by his stripes I am healed. By every
19:40blood drop THAT DROP THAT CAME OUT OF
19:42HIM, I find healing FOR MY BITTERNESS. I
19:46FIND HEALING FOR MY MALICE. AM I TALKING
19:48TO ANYBODY? I FIND FORGIVENESS. IF I
19:51JUST CONFESS TO GOD RIGHT NOW, HE CAN
19:54PURIFY ME THROUGH THE BLOOD OF JESUS. Is
19:56there anybody right now? I CAN PAUSE AND
19:59GIVE YOU A FEW SECONDS. IF YOU WANT TO
20:01LIFT YOUR HEART TO GOD AND SAY FORGIVE
20:03ME, WASH ME, CLEANSE ME BECAUSE I WANT
20:05TO BE IN ON THE REVIVAL, ON THE
20:08CELEBRATION, ON THE WORSHIP AND I WANT
20:11MY HEART AND MY HANDS TO BE CLEAN. WASH
20:14ME IN THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB SO THAT I
20:17CAN BE WHITER THAN THE SNOW.
20:20I FEEL THE HOLY GHOST IN THIS SPACE.
20:23YEAH, they consecrated themselves before
20:27the celebration and they consecrated the
20:29walls to say to God, both us and the
20:32walls belong to you. Yeah, we didn't do
20:34this because of our own strength. We
20:36didn't We didn't get here because we
20:38were so resilient, so tough. It was your
20:40goodness that brought us through. It was
20:42your grace and your mercy and and all we
20:45can do now, God, is to dedicate
20:48ourselves and the walls to you and say
20:50like Andre Crouch, to God BE THE GLORY
20:53FOR THE THINGS THAT HE HAS DONE. JUST
20:57LET ME LIVE MY LIFE. I FEEL THE HOLY
20:59Ghost in here. YEAH, YEAH, TO GOD BE ALL
21:02THE GLORY FOR THE THINGS HE HAS DONE.
21:05To God be all the glory
21:07for the things he had done. They They
21:09They prepared themselves. We see the
21:11preparation of the worshipers, but but
21:13then the preparation segued into the
21:16procession on the walls in verse verses
21:1931 to 42. We see now the procession on
21:23the walls. These verses focus on the
21:26physical and the symbolic acts of
21:29displaying that God had given them the
21:32victory. Yeah, they had to physically
21:35display to the world that they had the
21:39victory
21:40because God had given them the victory.
21:43God had given them the victory. Brothers
21:45and sisters, there's something I see in
21:47scripture that whenever God gives the
21:50victory to a people who have prepared, a
21:52people who have prayed, a people who
21:54have labored, they have a way of showing
21:57it publicly. They want the world to know
22:00God did this and I'm not afraid for
22:03anybody to see that God has given me the
22:06victory. Am I talking to anybody here?
22:08Yeah, yeah, yeah. You Devil, YOU HAD
22:10YOUR FOOT IN MY NECK FOR A LONG TIME.
22:12BUT NOW THAT I [screaming] HAVE THE
22:14VICTORY, THE WHOLE WORLD IS GOING TO
22:17SEE. I WAS IN BONDAGE FOR A LONG TIME,
22:19BUT NOW THAT GOD HAS BROUGHT ME OUT, THE
22:22WHOLE WORLD IS GOING TO SEE THAT GOD HAS
22:26GIVEN ME THE VICTORY.
22:29THEY HAD to show the world that God had
22:32gave them given them the victory. What
22:34did they do? The Bible says that they
22:36began to walk on the walls.
22:38Yeah, yeah. They they they went out
22:40walking on the walls. Haha. They they
22:43they They went out walking on the walls.
22:45The Bible says, brothers and sisters,
22:47that Nehemiah divided a massive
22:51Thanksgiving choir and the leaders of
22:53Benjamin and Judah, he divided them into
22:56two companies and he said to one company
22:58led by Ezra, he said, "You march to the
23:01right hand side and the other company, I
23:04lead you and we'll march the left hand
23:06side and we'll all meet at the
23:08sanctuary." They walked on the walls to
23:11the sanctuary. And And when I when I
23:14thought about this, I could not help but
23:17remember the song by Isaac Watts Watts
23:20when he says, "Come we that love the
23:22Lord, and let your joys be known. Join
23:26in the song with sweeter chord. Join in
23:29the song with sweeter chord, and thus
23:32surround the throne. And thus surround
23:35the throne." I like this. "We are
23:37marching to Zion."
23:39Am I talking to anybody here? I said we
23:41are marching to Zion, to beautiful to
23:45beautiful Zion. WE ARE MARCHING UPWARD
23:49TO ZION, the beautiful CITY OF GOD.
23:53HERE'S THE DEAL. I I I WAS THINKING THAT
23:55THIS sermon would have been around the
23:56time that we are back in our sanctuary.
23:58We are not back in there yet. We are
24:00still in the fellowship hall. BUT IS
24:02THERE ANYBODY HERE THAT ZION IS NOT A
24:05PHYSICAL LOCATION, BUT IT'S A SPIRITUAL
24:08PLACE? IS THERE ANYBODY IN THIS PLACE
24:10THAT CAN LIFT YOUR VOICE IN HERE RIGHT
24:12NOW AND SAY, "WE ARE MARCHING TO ZION."
24:14COME ON. SLAP THAT NEIGHBOR HIGH FIVE
24:17AND SAY, "NEIGHBOR, I KNOW YOU LOVE THE
24:19LORD. JOIN IN THE SONG. JOIN IN THE
24:22SOUND OF WORSHIP, FOR we are marching to
24:25Zion, to beautiful TO BEAUTIFUL ZION. WE
24:30ARE MARCHING UPWARD TO ZION, THE
24:32BEAUTIFUL CITY OF GOD. WE MAY HAVE HAD
24:35SOME SETBACKS, BUT WE ARE STILL
24:37MARCHING. AM I TALKING TO ANYBODY HERE?
24:39WE MAY HAVE HAD SOME ROADBLOCKS, BUT WE
24:41ARE STILL MARCHING. SOME RED TAPES, BUT
24:44WE ARE STILL SOME BUREAUCRACY, BUT WE
24:46ARE STILL MARCHING TO ZION, THE
24:48BEAUTIFUL CITY OF GOD. SOMEBODY GIVE THE
24:51LORD A MIGHTY SHOUT OF PRAISE IN THE
24:53HOUSE.
24:55WE ARE marching to Zion.
24:57Oh God, I feel the Holy [laughter] Ghost
24:59in here. My soul was happy when I read
25:01this, Lady Desmaday. They walked on
25:04those walls. They walked on those walls.
25:07Help me tell your neighbor right quick.
25:08Say, "Neighbor, I'm a wall walker. Are
25:11you?" Come on, tell him. Say, "Neighbor,
25:12I am a wall walker.
25:14Are you a wall walker?" I feel the Holy
25:17Ghost in this place. Let me tell you
25:19there are three reasons why MY SOUL GOT
25:22HAPPY WHEN I READ ABOUT THE fact that
25:24they walked on the walls. Firstly, they
25:27walked on the walls as a physical
25:30rebuttal to the criticism of Sanballat
25:33and Tobiah. Because you remember that in
25:35verse chapter 4 and verse 2, they
25:37jeered. Sanballat and Tobiah asked
25:40jeeringly, "Will they revive the stones
25:43from the heaps of rubbish, the stones
25:45that are burnt?" In other words, they
25:46were saying, "Can they really build a
25:49wall out of the junk?" I feel like
25:50preaching here.
25:51>> [laughter]
25:51>> But but look at me, walk on the walls.
25:54Yeah, they said I COULDN'T BUILD IT. BUT
25:56BUT WATCH ME WALK ON THE WALLS. THEY
25:59SAID I WOULD NOT BE ANYTHING. BUT BUT
26:00BUT WATCH ME WALK ON THE WALLS. THEY
26:03SAID THE MINISTRY WOULDN'T COME BACK.
26:05BUT BUT WATCH ME WALK ON THE WALLS. I
26:07FEEL LIKE PREACHING IN THIS PLACE. DO I
26:09HAVE ANY WALL WALKERS IN HERE? IS THERE
26:12ANYBODY IN THIS PLACE THAT THEY TOLD YOU
26:15COULDN'T REBUILD IT, YOU COULDN'T DO IT,
26:17YOU COULDN'T BECOME? BUT BUT LOOK AT YOU
26:18NOW. COME ON, COME ON, COME ON. YOU
26:20OUGHT TO STAND ON YOUR FEET AND SAY,
26:22"WATCH ME WALK on them walls." I FEEL
26:25THE HOLY GHOST IN HERE. COME ON, ZION.
26:28YOU OUGHT TO STAND ON YOUR FEET IN HERE
26:30FOR ALL THE DISCOURAGEMENT, FOR ALL THE
26:32DEPRESSION. YOU YOU OUGHT TO STAND ON
26:34YOUR FEET RIGHT NOW AND SAY, "WATCH ME
26:36WALK ON THE WALLS."
26:39OH. YEAH. YEAH. YEAH. In chapter 4 and
26:43verse 3, the naysayers said, "Whatever
26:46they build, if even a fox goes on it, it
26:50will break down their stone wall." But
26:53watch me walk on the wall. Watch this
26:55big choir and the leaders walk on the
26:58wall. They said a fox would bring IT
27:00DOWN. BUT WATCH A CROWD WALKING ON THE
27:03wall and it's still standing. I feel
27:05LIKE PREACHING IN HERE. IN 1996 when
27:08Bishop started this work, there were
27:09naysayers, there were critics, but but
27:12watch us walk ON THE WALL. I FEEL LIKE
27:14PREACHING IN HERE. Is there anybody WANT
27:16TO STAND ONE MORE TIME AND JUST JUST
27:17[clears throat] TAKE TWO STEPS AND SAY
27:19WE ARE WALL WALKERS AFTER 30 YEARS. 30
27:23years AND WE'RE STILL HERE AND WE'RE
27:26STILL STANDING. LOOK AT THE CROWD
27:29WALKING ON THE WALLS. [screaming]
27:35I FEEL THE HOLY Ghost in this place.
27:37Yeah, when they criticize, don't even
27:39say anything. Just just get up and start
27:42walking.
27:43>> [laughter]
27:43>> And tell yourself, I'm a WALL WALKER. I
27:46KNOW HOW TO WALK ON WALLS. THEY SAID I
27:49WOULDN'T BUILD. I feel the Holy Ghost
27:51here. But walking on the walls, number
27:53two, walking on the walls offered them a
27:55new perspective on the will of God. To
27:59this point, they had looked at the wall
28:01lying in a rubble heap on the ground. To
28:04this point, they had looked at the walls
28:06as stones that they were trying to
28:08build, but for the first time, for the
28:11first time since we are in the book,
28:13they are now on top of the wall. Now,
28:15brothers and sisters, you got to hear me
28:17now. When you are looking up at what God
28:19is telling you to do FROM YOUR LITTLE
28:22PART ON THE WALL, at the side of the
28:24wall, you can't see the full picture of
28:27what God is telling you. And so we can
28:30get discouraged, we can get despondent,
28:33we can feel burned, we can feel
28:35disappointed, BUT WHEN YOU GET UP ON the
28:37walls, Lord, I feel the Holy Ghost, and
28:40you begin to look down, you say, "But
28:42God, this is what you SAW ALL THE TIME?"
28:45AM I TALKING TO ANYBODY HERE? YEAH,
28:47YEAH. SOMETIMES YOU JUST need a little
28:50bit of heaven's point of view. Am I
28:52talking to anybody? YEAH, BECAUSE WHEN
28:54YOU GET ON THE WALLS, YOU begin to
28:57realize that what looked like A MOUNTAIN
29:00IS JUST A HILL. THE ENEMIES THAT LOOK SO
29:03BIG WHILE YOU WERE ON THE GROUND, WHEN
29:06you get up on top of the wall, AM I
29:08TALKING TO ANYBODY? AND YOU LOOK DOWN ON
29:10THE SANBALLAT, [clears throat] AND YOU
29:12LOOK DOWN ON THE TOBIAH, YOU'LL BEGIN TO
29:14REALIZE, BUT WAIT, THEY ARE NOT AS
29:16STRONG AS I THOUGHT THEY WERE. SOMEBODY,
29:19YOU JUST NEED TO GET UP ON YOUR WALL. I
29:22FEEL LIKE PREACHING IN THIS PLACE. I
29:24SAID THERE'S SOMEBODY HERE YOU'RE ABOUT
29:26TO GIVE UP, BUT I HEAR GOD SAYING, YOU
29:29ARE NOT TO GIVE UP UNTIL YOU GET UP ON
29:31THE WALL AND YOU BEGIN TO LOOK DOWN.
29:34BECAUSE WHEN YOU'RE UP ON THE WALL,
29:36YOU'LL BEGIN TO SEE THAT THE THINGS THAT
29:38BOTHERED YOU ON THE GROUND AIN'T NOTHING
29:40BUT A THING, AND GOD CAN TAKE CARE
29:43>> [screaming]
29:43>> OF
29:44ALL OF THOSE THINGS.
29:47SOMEBODY SHOUT glory in this place.
29:49But the third reason that they walked on
29:52the wall, Warren Wiersbe put it this
29:53way, he commented on this. He said,
29:55"Walking on the walls was a symbolic act
29:58by which they stepped out by faith to
30:02claim the blessing of God on quote."
30:04Because you see, Lady Janet, at that
30:06time, yeah, yeah, before they had the
30:08sophisticated laws like we do, to claim
30:11your territory and to show that it
30:13belongs to you, you would take them
30:16fancy shoes off. I feel like preaching
30:18in here. And you'd put YOUR FOOT YOUR
30:20BAREFOOT ON THE GROUND AND YOU'D WALK IT
30:24OUT. AM I TALKING TO ANYBODY? That's why
30:26God said to Abraham in Genesis 13 and
30:29verse 7, "Arise, walk through the land
30:33cuz I've given it unto you." He said to
30:35Joshua in Joshua 1 and verse 3, "Every
30:38place
30:39that the sole of your feet shall tread
30:42upon,
30:43I have given IT UNTO YOU." I WONDER IF
30:46THERE IS ANYBODY IN THIS HOUSE RIGHT
30:48NOW. MY GOD, YOU WANT TO GET UP ON YOUR
30:50FEET ANOTHER TIME AND JUST WALK AROUND
30:52IN HERE FOR A LITTLE BIT. JUST TAKE A
30:55FEW STEPS. MY GOD, I'M CLAIMING BACK MY
30:58FAMILY. I'M CLAIMING BACK MY CHILDREN.
31:01IT IS MINE. I FEEL THE HOLY GHOST IN
31:04HERE. I'M CLAIMING BACK EVERYTHING THAT
31:07GOD SAYS BELONG TO ME. WALK ON IT. PUT
31:11YOUR FOOT ON IT AND GIVE THE LORD A
31:14PRAISE IN THE HOUSE WHILE YOU'RE DOING
31:16IT. GIVE HIM A PRAISE.
31:19GIVE HIM A PRAISE.
31:22I FEEL THE HOLY Ghost in here. Yeah,
31:25yeah, yeah, yeah. Slap a neighbor high
31:27five AND SAY, "NEIGHBOR, I'M A WALL
31:30WALKER." Come on, tell them. SAY,
31:32"NEIGHBOR,
31:33I'M A WALL WALKER. I'VE ALREADY CRIED
31:36TOO MUCH. I'VE PRAYED A LOT. I'VE
31:40STRUGGLED A LOT. IT'S MY TIME TO WALK
31:42THE WALLS BECAUSE VICTORY
31:46IS MINE." [screaming]
31:49SHAMMAH.
31:50I feel the Holy Ghost in this place.
31:53Yeah yeah yeah
31:55brothers and sisters,
31:56not only do we see them walking on the
31:58walls. You may be seated. Not only did
32:00we see them walking on the walls,
32:03but we see them worshipping on the walls
32:05because when the choirs marched, they
32:08marched and they sang as they marched.
32:11When they marched, they played as they
32:14marched. They lifted the voice of
32:16worship and adoration to God. They had
32:20loud songs and festive music worshipping
32:23on the walls. And you've got to excuse
32:25them for being so exuberant. You've got
32:28to You've got to excuse me if today I'm
32:30just a little bit happy in my soul. I
32:33feel the Holy Ghost here because when
32:35you look back over the text in chapter
32:381, they wept over the walls. Am I
32:41talking to anybody here? In chapter 2,
32:44they walked around the broken walls.
32:46In chapter 3, they worked on the walls.
32:49In chapter 4, they watched for the
32:52enemies on the walls. In chapter 4, they
32:55warred with the enemies on the wall. But
32:58finally [snorts]
32:59the days of weeping were over. The days
33:02of working were behind them. The days OF
33:05WATCHING AND WARRING WERE BEHIND THEM.
33:07BUT NOW, IT WAS TIME TO WORSHIP. Am I
33:10talking to anybody here? I SAID,
33:12"NEIGHBOR, IT'S TIME TO WORSHIP GOD."
33:15COME ON, DO YOU GET SLAP YOUR NEIGHBOR
33:17HIGH FIVE ONE MORE TIME. THIS IS GOING
33:19TO BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT HERE. SLAP
33:20YOUR NEIGHBOR HIGH FIVE AND SAY,
33:22"NEIGHBOR, YOU HAVE WEPT A LONG TIME.
33:25YOU HAVE WORKED A LONG TIME. YOU HAVE
33:28WARRED A LONG TIME. YOU HAVE WAITED A
33:31LONG TIME. BUT I HEAR GOD SAYING, 'IT'S
33:35TIME TO WORSHIP. It's time TO LIFT UP
33:38YOUR HANDS. IT'S TIME TO OPEN UP YOUR
33:40MOUTH AND GIVE THE LORD A PRAISE.'" COME
33:44ON, GIVE HIM A PRAISE FROM THE DEPTHS OF
33:47YOUR SPIRIT, FROM THE BASEMENT OF YOUR
33:49BELLY. GIVE THE LORD [screaming] PRAISE
33:53FOR ALL
33:54>> [groaning]
33:55>> THAT HE HAS DONE FOR YOU.
33:58>> [gasps]
33:58>> I FEEL THE HOLY GHOST in this place.
34:01I feel God in this place.
34:03They worship God. But brothers and
34:05sisters,
34:06as I get ready to begin to wind this
34:08message down here,
34:10the dedication service and the rejoicing
34:13and the celebration they had relied on
34:17the legacy of King David
34:20because King David was faithful 500
34:23years before they rebuilt the temple and
34:26had the celebration. You see, brothers
34:28and sisters, it was David that had
34:30organized the priests. It was David who
34:33had set up the choir directors of the
34:34Levites. It was David who had written
34:36the songs of praise. It was David that
34:39conquered the city of the Jebusites and
34:41turn it into Jerusalem. It was David
34:43that provided the blueprint for the
34:44temple. It was David that built the
34:46musical instrument for worship. So, in
34:49other words, as they celebrated, they
34:51thanked God for David. Am I TALKING TO
34:53ANYBODY? LEANING HERE, PENTAB. AS we
34:56celebrate 30 years and as we celebrate
35:00in church today, I WANT YOU TO STAND UP
35:02ON YOUR FEET AND THANK GOD FOR OUR
35:05DAVID. COME ON, PENTAB. STAND UP ON YOUR
35:07FEET. I WANT YOU TO PUT YOUR HANDS
35:09TOGETHER AND THANK GOD FOR Bishop S.
35:13Roberts Stewart. THANK GOD FOR OUR
35:16FOUNDING MEMBERS. COME ON. COME ON. MAKE
35:19SOME NOISE, PENTAB. WHEN WE PRAISE GOD,
35:22WE HONOR HIS LEADERS. AM I TALKING TO
35:25ANYBODY HERE? THANK GOD FOR OUR GREAT
35:28MAN OF GOD. THANK GOD FOR HIS HEART OF
35:31LOVE. THANK GOD. COME ON. AM I ALONE IN
35:34THIS HOUSE? THANK GOD FOR HIS VISION.
35:38THANK GOD FOR HIS FAITHFULNESS. THANK
35:41GOD.
35:42THANK GOD.
35:44THANK GOD.
35:46OH YES.
35:49SLAP YOUR NEIGHBOR HIGH FIVE AND SAY,
35:51"NEIGHBOR,
35:53WE ARE CELEBRATING
35:54A GLORIOUS PAST." COME ON, TELL THEM.
35:57SAY "NEIGHBOR
35:59WE ARE CELEBRATING
36:01A GLORIOUS PAST AND WE ARE EMBRACING A
36:05PROMISING FUTURE." COME ON, TELL THEM
36:07AGAIN. SAY, "NEIGHBOR,
36:10WE ARE CELEBRATING
36:12a glorious past and WE ARE EMBRACING
36:14[clears throat]
36:16A PROMISING FUTURE. THE PAST IS GOOD,
36:19BUT THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT." I FEEL
36:21LIKE PREACHING IN HERE. IS THERE ANYBODY
36:24IN THIS PLACE THAT BELIEVE THAT WITH ME
36:27RIGHT NOW? LIFT YOUR VOICES IN HERE AND
36:30SAY, "OUR PAST WAS GLORIOUS,
36:34BUT OUR FUTURE LOOKS
36:36BECAUSE GOD,
36:38THE SAME GOD, IS WITH US TODAY. SHOUT
36:42GLORY. [screaming]
36:45SHOUT GLORY.
36:47Shout glory.
36:48Give somebody high five one more time
36:51and say, "NEIGHBOR,
36:52I HEAR THE SOUND OF CELEBRATION."
36:56SAY "NEIGHBOR
36:58I [screaming] HEAR THE SOUND
37:00OF CELEBRATION.
37:02ZION IS CALLING US TO A HIGHER PLACE OF
37:08PRAISE. GOD, [snorts] I FEEL HIM HERE TO
37:11STAND
37:13UPON THE MOUNTAIN AND TO GLORIFY
37:17THE NAME OF GOD. I HEAR THE [screaming]
37:19SOUND
37:24HALLELUJAH.
37:25HALLELUJAH.
37:27Let me take this message home, y'all.
37:30Brothers and sisters, we had the
37:31preparation of the worshipers.
37:33We had the pro- cession on the walls.
37:35But then we had
37:37the proclamation of their worship in
37:40verse [snorts] 43.
37:42It is the climax of the text.
37:44This is where
37:46the sheer joy and the sheer volume of
37:48their joy
37:50could not be contained within
37:52themselves. The Bible says
37:55in the first part of 43 THAT THEY
37:57CELEBRATED
37:59WITH great sacrifices.
38:01Somebody holler, "Great sacrifices."
38:04SOMEBODY HOLLER, "GREAT SACRIFICES."
38:07I see some of you haven't OPENED YOUR
38:08MOUTH YET. SAY, "GREAT SACRIFICES."
38:11>> [snorts]
38:11>> What does this mean, brothers and
38:12sisters?
38:13It means that on this day
38:16they brought more than the usual.
38:18If they used to BRING ONE BULLOCK,
38:21NOW THEY BROUGHT THREE BULLOCKS.
38:23I feel like preaching in this place.
38:25They brought more
38:27THAN THEY BROUGHT BEFORE.
38:29AND I JUST WONDER IN THIS HOUSE TODAY
38:32BECAUSE THE BIBLE SAYS
38:34THAT OUR SACRIFICE
38:36IS A SACRIFICE OF PRAISE
38:39AND THE SACRIFICE
38:40OF THANKSGIVING UNTO GOD.
38:43I DON'T NEED TO BRING A LAMB.
38:45I DON'T NEED TO BRING A COW,
38:47BUT HEBREWS SAID
38:49THEREFORE
38:50BY JESUS
38:52LET US CONTINUALLY
38:54OFFER TO GOD
38:56THE SACRIFICE
38:58OF PRAISE
38:59AND THE FRUIT OF OUR LIPS
39:02TO GIVE THANKS TO HIM. [laughter]
39:03IS THERE ANYBODY IN THIS PLACE
39:06THAT HAS A sacrifice of praise?
39:08I feel like preaching in here.
39:11I FEEL GOD IN HERE,
39:13BUT here is a deal.
39:15IT WASN'T ORDINARY. IT WAS GREAT.
39:18SOMEBODY HOLLER IT WAS GREAT.
39:20IT WAS A GREAT SACRIFICE. WHY?
39:23BECAUSE GOD HAD BROUGHT them out of
39:26great distress.
39:27These were the people who sat BY THE
39:30RIVERS OF BABYLON,
39:31LAID THEIR songs down, laid their armor
39:34down, LAID THEIR HARPS DOWN AND THEY
39:37SAID ELDER THEY ASKED HOW
39:40CAN WE SING THE LORD'S SONG IN A GREAT
