Summary
Bishop Henry Fernandez explores Psalm 51 to demonstrate that failure is never final with God, encouraging believers to seek a restoration of joy and a willing spirit to be truly revived.
Key points
- •Failure is not final and does not disqualify a believer from God's purpose; instead, it provides an opportunity for restoration.
- •Repentance must be genuine and honest, moving beyond excuses to take full responsibility for one's actions before God.
- •Revival begins with the restoration of joy, which is the true source of a believer's strength (Nehemiah 8:10).
- •A sustained spiritual life requires an intentional, daily pursuit of God and a 'willing spirit' to serve Him.

Life application
Reflect on one area where you have felt disqualified by past failure, and pray Psalm 51:12 daily this week, asking God to restore your joy and grant you a willing spirit to serve Him again.
Reflection questions
- In what ways have you allowed a past mistake to define your identity rather than God's purpose?
- David asked for joy rather than power or wealth; what are you currently asking God for, and how would joy change your perspective?
- What 'excuses' do you need to stop making so that genuine revival can begin in your heart?
- How can you intentionally pursue a more 'willing spirit' in your service to the church and your community this week?

0:00to all of us. Amen. You may be seated
0:00just for a moment.
0:01Uh don't go anywhere worship team. Stay
0:04right there.
0:07Just before I bring to you today's
0:10message, and you don't want to go
0:11anywhere, especially those of you are
0:12streaming,
0:15I want to give you an opportunity to sew
0:17into the ministry.
0:20Um, I met a gentleman this morning in
0:22the lobby while greeting people and he
0:25came up to me and he said, "Last week,
0:27pastor, you uh challenged the church to
0:31sew a specific seed of $350." and he
0:36said, you know, he didn't have it and
0:39struggled with it for a moment.
0:42And then he said,
0:44you know, uh, God was able to bless him
0:48where he has the 350 today. in. He asked
0:52me a question and he said, "Pastor, is
0:56it wrong
0:59to give to God expecting
1:03something in return?
1:05Is it wrong?"
1:08And I told him, I said, "It is
1:10absolutely
1:13correct to expect
1:16God
1:19to respond to his word. When you give,
1:23he will give it back to you in good
1:26measure,
1:28>> pressed down, shaken together, and
1:30running over it." Listen to me. It is
1:33impossible to give to God and he not
1:37bless you.
1:41Are you hearing what I'm saying? When
1:44you give, that's where you get blessed.
1:46The Bible said it is more blessed
1:50to give than to receive.
1:54Don't expect
1:57God not to return the blessing when you
2:00give. The moment you give, it's
2:03automatic. It's kind of like, and this
2:05what I told him also, you cannot jump
2:08into water and not get wet.
2:12It's impossible.
2:14I'm talking about with your clothes on,
2:16if you jump into a pool of water, you're
2:19going to get wet. You don't have to
2:21debate it. It's automatic.
2:24When you give to God, you can expect God
2:29to do something. Now, of course, and I
2:31told him this, you're not going to just
2:33always say, "Well, I'm gonna give and
2:35I'm, you know, God better do this. God
2:38better do that." No, but when you obey
2:41his word,
2:43when you take a portion of your earnings
2:46and you bring it into the storehouse
2:49according to the word of God and you
2:51give, the Bible says it will be given
2:53back to you. Bring the tithe into the
2:56storehouse. God is always, listen to me,
2:59ladies and gentlemen, God is always
3:02looking for someone who's willing to
3:06give
3:09always
3:10because in giving there comes
3:13multiplication.
3:15He will multiply
3:17what you're willing to give. And I know
3:19what some of you are thinking. How can I
3:21give out of the little that I have?
3:24because what I have is not enough to
3:27take care of everything. Let me go into
3:31Matthew 14. If you could turn the house
3:33up, lights up a little bit more for me,
3:35please. Uh during the offering, thank
3:37you. Uh when Jesus heard Matthew 14, I
3:41want to read this because I'm going to
3:42show you God always
3:45looks for people with little
3:49who will trust him with that little so
3:52that he can multiply it.
3:54The Bible says when Jesus heard what had
3:56happened, he withdrew by a boat
3:59privately
4:01to a solitary place here in the hear and
4:04of this sorry the crowd followed him on
4:07foot from town to town if you will. And
4:11when Jesus landed and saw a large crowd,
4:15he had compassion on them and healed
4:19their sick. And as evening approached
4:22after ministry, the disciples came to
4:26him and said, "This is a remote place
4:30and it's already getting late.
4:34Send the crowds away." And so they can
4:38go to the villages and buy themselves
4:41some food. So here is Jesus ministering
4:46and all of a sudden the people who he
4:49was ministering to, they were all in a
4:52remote area, no food around. The
4:54disciples, the followers of Jesus
4:56Christ, the 12 that I just talked to you
4:58about before communion.
5:00They said, "Look, Jesus, let's let's get
5:03out of here now quickly. Let's send them
5:05away." But Jesus replied in verse 16 and
5:08he said they do not need to go away.
5:13You give them something to eat. Now wait
5:15a minute. Now Jesus is telling the
5:17disciples
5:19who knew they had no food to give to
5:22these people. Yet Jesus is telling the
5:25disciples out of their nothingness, you
5:29feed them.
5:33So you wonder why God will ask you who
5:36are struggling,
5:39having a little to be a blessing to
5:42others. How many times God will say to
5:45you, I know you've got your bills to
5:47pay, but what about that person that I
5:50put on your heart? What about that
5:52struggling mother? What about that poor
5:54person?
5:56Jesus said to his disciples who had no
5:58food to give them, "Go feed them." Verse
6:0217. And he says, "We have here only five
6:06loaves of bread and two fish." That's
6:10what they said to Jesus. Now, notice it
6:12wasn't even theirs.
6:16The five loaves of bread and two fish
6:18wasn't even the disciples. It was a
6:20little boy. It was his lunch, if you
6:23will.
6:24And they went and borrowed the boy's
6:28lunch. Watch this. I'm going somewhere
6:29with this. They went and borrowed and
6:32took it from the little boy little and
6:36brought it. And here's what Jesus did.
6:39And this is what I'll close the offering
6:41appeal with.
6:43Jesus said, "Bring them here to me." And
6:47then verse 19.
6:50And he directed the people to sit down
6:52on the grass and taken the five loaves
6:55and the two fish and looking up to
6:58heaven.
6:59And he gave thanks and broke the loaves
7:03and he gave them to his disciples. Let
7:06me take this offering envelope and and
7:08do it with this to demonstrate it to
7:11you. Jesus took the
7:16five loaves of bread, the two fish.
7:20He didn't put it on the ground.
7:24He took it up or he took it from the
7:27disciples
7:28and he looked in the proper direction.
7:32I would look to the heels
7:35>> from whence come up my help.
7:37He took what was considered small
7:42and he said to his father,
7:45"May you bless this little?"
7:49And the Bible said he gave it to his
7:53disciples
7:54to feed the multitude.
7:57And there were greedy people in the
7:58crowd.
8:00What is your point, pastor? Can you
8:02imagine five loaves of bread and two
8:05fish among 5,000 people?
8:10Surely there's got to be somebody who
8:12held on to one fish for themselves
8:15and didn't break it.
8:18Somebody who thought, "I want one loaf
8:20of bread for myself." But the Bible says
8:23at the end of the day, everybody was fed
8:28and they had leftovers.
8:31How is that possible? That is what God
8:35is trying to tell us as kingdom
8:38citizens.
8:40That when we take our little
8:43and present it to him,
8:46he will bless us. He's not going to
8:48force us. Please don't use this moment
8:51to think that somebody's trying to
8:53manipulate you to give. If you're a
8:55kingdom citizen, you understand what
8:58kingdom principles are when it comes to
9:00generosity.
9:02And so this morning, I want to challenge
9:04all of us
9:06who believe in the principle of sewing
9:10and reaping. I made the appeal last
9:13week. Maybe you didn't have it last
9:15week.
9:16Why don't you like this gentleman? He
9:18didn't have it, but in his heart,
9:20[snorts]
9:21he wanted to give it. And God made
9:24provision where today he says, "Pastor,
9:27I'm bringing my seed."
9:29>> Why don't you decide today, God,
9:33I know it's a little that I have. I
9:37don't feel pressured, but God, from the
9:40abundance of my heart, I want to give
9:43this special seed. Give it because you
9:46believe in this ministry. I told you the
9:48reason why we're asking you to give it
9:50is we've been celebrating 35 years. 35
9:53years, God has been faithful to this
9:55church. He's kept us over these 35
9:57years. And there's a lot of things we
9:59need to take care of financially.
10:02And if you would be one of those people
10:04who will say, "I'll give $350," would
10:09you do it? And again,
10:11if it doesn't settle in your spirit,
10:15please do not let this turn you off from
10:17the service.
10:19There's absolutely no way we could just
10:21come here, rejoice, and go home.
10:24And kingdom citizens don't come together
10:27to fund the vision. So, I'm speaking
10:30directly to people who believe in the
10:34joy of giving that you will give that
10:36seed this morning. And then finally,
10:39we're going to say our confession. I'm
10:41going to challenge all of you between
10:43now and December.
10:46We've kicked off this this pledge drive
10:49from last week between now and December.
10:51You don't have it today. Pray to God and
10:54say, "God, if you give it to me, I want
10:56to give my church a special anniversary
10:58seed. If you give it to me between now
11:01and December, over and above what I
11:03give, God, I will sew it into the
11:05kingdom." So, if you say to God, God,
11:08you know, I don't have it in July, maybe
11:10August or whatever, God has blessed you
11:12tremendously where you can give it every
11:14month. It's all up to you. Give
11:17according to how God has prospered and
11:20blessed you. And one of the things that
11:22I have prayed about, don't know if it's
11:24going to come to pass. I'm not telling
11:25you God told me uh to do this. I am a
11:29pastor, but I'm also a business person.
11:32One of the reason why this ministry has
11:34stood tall and strong in 35 years, I not
11:37only can teach the word of God, but in
11:40the secular world, it has trained me in
11:43business.
11:45And therefore, the business aspect of
11:47this church is taken care of. I'm able
11:50to make sure that this church
11:52business-wise operates with integrity.
11:56And so, not only integrity, but
11:58oversight. And so, I ask all of you,
12:02those of you who can stand with me,
12:05between now and December, I'm asking for
12:08just 100 people to stand with pastor.
12:11Actually, it's 119 because I'm the first
12:13one who can say, "Pastor, I'll sew a
12:16seed of $1,000 between now and December.
12:20If you can give it, fine. If you can't,
12:23then maybe it's not for you. This season
12:25is not yours. But I'm believing that by
12:28December, this church would get itself
12:31financially out of the the weak season
12:34that we've had uh since the beginning of
12:38the year and especially during the
12:40summer. But one thing I do know, God is
12:44always faithful.
12:47>> Let me say it again. God is always
12:51faithful.
12:53So I want you to give. Let the Holy
12:55Spirit speak to you. If he says nothing
12:57to you, obey him. But if he's speaking
13:01to you,
13:03put him to the test this morning.
13:06You can give several ways. Through
13:07PushPay, those of you are streaming
13:09online PushPay.
13:11You can text to that number. The
13:13information is on the screen. You can
13:15give through zel. Please make sure you
13:17type in the letters exactly the way you
13:19see them on the screen. For those of you
13:21watching overseas, uh your best options
13:24are PayPal and our website, the
13:26faithcenter int.org,
13:29or you can call that number right now.
13:31Ministry operators are standing by. You
13:33can go ahead and sew uh your uh seed.
13:38Another lady in the lobby this morning
13:40said, "Pastor, I couldn't give all of
13:42it, but I want to give half." And she
13:46handed me her seed in a regular bank
13:49envelope. So, I want the lady to know I
13:51took it out of the bank envelope and I
13:53put it in an envelope for you and it's
13:56right here. It's going into the offering
13:59collection. Well, another envelope was
14:03given to me last week. Someone found
14:06someone's money.
14:09I'm so glad honest people come to the
14:11faith center.
14:15This person said, "Last week, um, no, it
14:19was on the 28th, by the way. Sorry. On
14:22June 28th, I was walking in the east
14:26parking lot of the lobby and found the
14:30money. I'm not going to tell you how
14:33much money it is cuz you going to say
14:34the Lord says it's yours."
14:37But if you lost some money on June 28th,
14:41you got to tell us the amount cuz it's
14:45cash.
14:47It's cash. So, you have to tell us the
14:50exact amount. And to be specific, you
14:54have to tell us the numbers on the
14:56money. I'm just kidding. I'm just kid
14:58I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
15:02I'm just kidding.
15:04You know. All right. What you saying,
15:06Pastor Brian? Okay. Yes. All right. So,
15:09make sure you come to Pastor Brian.
15:12Would you please stand? All right. This
15:14is the gentleman you should come and
15:16look for. Don't give it to anybody if
15:19they don't give you the right amount of
15:21money. Uh, you know, amount of money
15:23that they had in there. All right. Now,
15:26if you're going to give with the special
15:28donation of 350, we have special
15:30envelopes for it. So, if you want to
15:33raise your hand, you don't have to come
15:34down. Raise your hand if you're going to
15:36give. You're going to pledge between now
15:37and December and you're going to give.
15:39Just raise your hand. That's all. Just
15:40raise your hand. Pastor Brian, uh get a
15:42couple of ministers to help you. And
15:44then we're going to say our confession.
15:46Uh those of you online, please, if
15:48you're going to sew it, just go ahead
15:50and indicate in the chat that you're
15:52going to sew it. All right. Keep your
15:54hand up if you're going to be a part of
15:55that and then we'll get this out of the
15:57way. Thank you so much. It has something
16:00specific on it. It says, "My seed faith
16:04offering." I believe that's what it
16:06says. Thank you so much. All right,
16:08let's say our confession now, everybody.
16:10It is a prayer over our seed. And the
16:12worship team is going to sing a song,
16:14which by the way was created by us, the
16:17Faith Center. Stacy and and and and
16:20Minister Mickey um both uh worked on
16:23this song and and they're going to sing
16:25it and it ties right into our theme for
16:28the month of July. Anybody else? Anybody
16:31else? All right, there's some more
16:32people there with their hands. There's a
16:35lovely lady there with our hand up. Look
16:37like she's about to give $10,000.
16:41>> I love her smile. God bless you. Amen.
16:44All right. Can we say the confession,
16:46everybody?
16:48Let's say it. In the name of Jesus, I
16:51declare that things are getting better.
16:53Though my beginnings were small, yet
16:55shall my latter end greatly increase. I
16:58thank you, Father, that you're doing a
17:00good work in me. It is marvelous in my
17:03eyes. I have the peace of God. I am
17:06whole. There's nothing missing, nothing
17:09lacking, and nothing broken in my life.
17:12I thank you, Father, that I am being
17:14transformed by your word and I have new
17:17ideas and a new attitude. I walk in
17:21prosperity. I have a prosperous mind, a
17:24prosperous soul, and a prosperous body.
17:27I thank you, Father, that you've given
17:29me the power to get wealth so that your
17:32covenant may be established. I declare
17:34that I'm a child of the most high God,
17:37and I can boldly say that I'm more than
17:39a conqueror. I'm an overcomer.
17:43No weapon formed against me shall
17:44prosper or stand.
17:46>> God, you have given the command to
17:48bless, and it cannot be reversed.
17:51Therefore, I declare that I'm blessed to
17:53be a blessing until all the families of
17:56the earth have been blessed. Amen.
17:59Praise God. All right. If you're going
18:02to give uh if you got one of the
18:04envelopes, go ahead and quickly put your
18:06seed in there. If the buckets pass you
18:10before,
18:11uh you know, after the offering has been
18:13received, please raise your hand and the
18:15ushers will come and get it. Let's
18:16worship the Lord and give in. And thank
18:18you so much. God bless you. glorify

22:30What an amazing song. Amen. Would you
22:33stand for the scripture and then we'll
22:37get you out of here
22:41hopefully on time. Praise Jesus.
22:45Psalm 51 is where I will come from this
22:49morning.
22:51We will actually deal with all 12 verses
22:56of Psalm 51. But I just want to read
22:59verse 12.
23:01It says, "Restore to me the joy of your
23:06salvation and grant me a willing spirit
23:10to sustain me." Now, I read it. I want
23:14you now to read it out loud. Everybody
23:16go read.
23:25>> Father, we thank you for your word
23:27today. May you speak to our hearts.
23:31May the words that we hear today
23:34transform us so that we are revived and
23:39sustained in Jesus' name. Amen. Can we
23:43give the Lord a hand of praise while we
23:46take our seats?
23:51One of the things I love about God is
23:56simply this.
23:58While society may
24:02write off, if you will,
24:06um, people who have repeatedly failed in
24:11life, I want people to understand that
24:14God never ever will he ever write you
24:18off because you have failed.
24:22Instead, what God does, he restores us
24:26when we fail.
24:28And in Psalm 51, we see David is one of
24:32the many references in scripture that
24:35shows us that we can find joy in serving
24:39Jesus Christ even after our biggest
24:42failure.
24:44Today I want to speak from the subject
24:46revived sustained
24:50finding joy after failure.
24:54Finding joy after failure. There are
24:57some of you in this room, some of you
24:59are streaming. You've had some failures
25:01in your life and it's been tormenting
25:05you and you are at a place where you're
25:07feeling less than a man, less than a
25:09woman because society remembers your
25:12failure and you can't seem to get it out
25:15of your head and therefore you're living
25:17beneath your Christian privileges. One
25:21of the biggest misconceptions in the
25:24church is that failure disqualifies
25:27people from God's purpose. I want to say
25:30that again. One of the biggest
25:32misconceptions in the body of Christ is
25:35that failure disqualifies people from
25:38God's presence. But the truth is failure
25:42may leave a scar on you. It may
25:45embarrass you. It may even humble you.
25:49But it does not have to define who you
25:52are.
25:54>> Just because you failed maybe last year,
25:575 years ago, 10 years ago, doesn't mean
26:00that God is through with you doesn't
26:02mean that you cannot succeed again. Some
26:06of God's greatest servants experienced
26:09seasons of failure.
26:11And we tend to forget that. If we read
26:13the Bible, we will see multiple times
26:17people in the in the Bible failed God.
26:20Yet he used them. [clears throat]
26:23>> Abraham lied about Sarah of who she was
26:28to him. Not only that, Abraham struggled
26:32with his temper, if you will. Moses
26:35murdered someone and struck the rock in
26:40anger. [clears throat]
26:41Moses was the guy whose name was in the
26:44system,
26:46the criminal system. And there are many
26:48of you streaming, watching today that
26:51you've done some things in the past.
26:54Maybe you got arrested.
26:56Maybe you did some illegal things and
26:59you're wondering with all the stuff
27:02that's behind your name and what you
27:04have done in for for years, can God use
27:09you? Yes, he can. Elijah ran in fear.
27:13Jonah ran from God's assignment. Peter
27:17denied Jesus how many times? Three
27:20times. The prodigal son, who was, by the
27:24way, a millennial, walked out of the
27:27covering [clears throat]
27:28and provision of his father's house.
27:31And there are many young people watching
27:33me today listening to this sermon.
27:37You have made some mistakes. You have
27:39done things that you're not pleased
27:42with. And you know, God's not pleased
27:44about those things. But I'm telling you,
27:47God can restore you. He did that to all
27:50of these people. Abraham, Moses, Elijah,
27:54Jonah, Peter, and the prodigal son. Yet
27:57God restored them, and he continues to
28:01use them.
28:03>> God can use you even after failure.
28:08You need to embrace that idea that even
28:11though you have failed, I'm not here
28:13telling you today that you ought to keep
28:15on making bad mistakes and keep on
28:17making bad decisions and so forth. But
28:20what I'm telling you after you made
28:22those bad decisions, God is saying to
28:26you today, I still have use of your
28:30life.
28:32>> David prayed in Psalm 51. He prayed one
28:36of the most honest prayers recorded in
28:39scripture. And one of the things we need
28:42to understand is this. God knows our
28:44heart. And when we go to God with
28:48honesty and saying, "God, this is who I
28:50am. This is the things that I'm
28:52struggling with, God will hear your
28:55prayer." I believe this is one of the
28:58greatest prayer David has ever prayed or
29:01anybody has ever prayed in scripture. It
29:04was not written during a season of
29:06victory. David wasn't just in this
29:08victorious season. So, he prayed this
29:11wonderful prayer. It was written after
29:13one of the darkest moments of his life.
29:16And I'm telling you today, God sent me
29:18to talk to a few of you who are in one
29:21of the darkest moments of your life
29:24right now. And you're wondering, how are
29:27you going to make it? And can God use
29:29you?
29:32Let me continue by saying and David
29:34sinned with Barshiba
29:36and orchestrated the death of her
29:39husband Uriah.
29:41God sent the prophet Nathan to confront
29:45him.
29:47Here's a man committed adultery,
29:50committed sin against this man's wife,
29:55and the Bible says to cover it up,
29:58>> he killed the man.
30:01cuz we're good at covering up our sins
30:06>> and we'll go to the point of murder
30:10>> just to cover it up. Though the
30:12confrontation was uncomfortable for
30:15David,
30:17it was meant it was not meant to destroy
30:20him. It was meant to restore him. Now
30:22wait a minute. See, we preach about how
30:24David committed the sin, committed
30:28murder, and then, you know, that was
30:31wrong and what he did, but we forget to
30:33to to recognize that the reason why God
30:37sent the prophet to talk to him about
30:39his sin was not to destroy him. It was
30:43to restore him, to redeem him. So when
30:46you hear sermons, when you open your
30:49phone and all of a sudden things that
30:51you're struggling with pops up on the
30:53screen, or maybe you turn on your radio
30:55and the things that God is trying to
30:58tell you, YOU START HEARING it through a
31:00preacher, start hearing it through
31:02somebody that God sent in your life, God
31:05is doing those things not to chastise
31:08you, but to restore you
31:12>> just like he did to David. The message
31:15was proof that God had not given up on
31:18David in spite of his sin.
31:23So likewise, when God corrects us, he is
31:26not rejecting us. He's calling us back
31:30to himself.
31:32In Hebrews 12 verse 6, we're reminded
31:36of the scripture. It says because the
31:38Lord disciplines the ones
31:42or the person he loves. The Lord
31:46discipline the ones he loves. Maybe
31:50that's where our parents got this from.
31:54You know they will
31:57be beating us and says you know why I'm
31:59doing this is because I love you.
32:04Anybody came from that kind of a
32:05background?
32:08after they slaughtered you,
32:12then they'll turn around and hug you and
32:14say, "You know, I love you."
32:16>> And you're thinking, "How in the world
32:18could you love me and hit me like that?"
32:21>> You see, God is still calling his people
32:24back to himself. He's calling us to
32:27revival. He's calling us to renewal.
32:30He's calling us to return to our first
32:35love. Uh that's what he's doing. And the
32:38message of Psalm 51 is very simple.
32:41Failure is not final when repentance is
32:45genuine.
32:47>> That's the message.
32:50This is the purpose of the body of
32:51Christ. This is the purpose for the
32:53platform that God has entrusted me with.
32:56It is not to use this platform to dog
33:00you out or to present myself as the
33:03righteous one. The purpose for this
33:05stage is not for me to display my talent
33:09or to use the scripture to beat upon you
33:12or to cast judgment on you. The message
33:16and purpose for the stage is to bring
33:19hope [snorts]
33:20to those who are broken and hope to
33:22those who have lost their way. And
33:24somebody ought to give God praise for
33:26that.
33:29>> [applause]
33:30>> Isaiah 1 verse 18,
33:34it says, "Though your sins are like
33:36what? Scarlet. They shall be what?
33:40>> As white as snow." What an incredible
33:44promise. No matter how messed up we
33:47become, God is still willing to change
33:50us. God knows where we have been. He
33:54knows all of our mistakes.
33:57He knows our compromises. Yet, he still
34:01loves us. He still believes in us. He
34:05still has a purpose for us. He still
34:08believes in us. No matter how broken you
34:11are, God still has a purpose for your
34:15life. The enemy wants you to focus on
34:18your failure.
34:20But God wants you to focus on his mercy.
34:24His mercy is everlasting and the truth
34:27of the Lord endured forever. Lamentation
34:303 22- 23 pretty much tells us his
34:35compassions
34:37never fail.
34:40They are new every morning.
34:42>> When you woke up this morning, it was
34:45the mercy of God
34:47>> that woke you up.
34:49>> Come on now. The reason why you're in
34:53the middle of the year, it's because of
34:56the mercy of God.
34:59>> Now, here is the heart of the message
35:00today.
35:02And to give you a biblical understanding
35:04of Psalm 51, verse 12. The message is
35:09all about restoration.
35:12It's about someone who failed and needs
35:15to be revived. David prayed. He prayed
35:19the prayer, restore to me the joy of
35:22your salvation and grant me a willing
35:25spirit to sustain me. He prayed it.
35:29Notice David asked for two things. One,
35:33restore the joy of salvation. Two, grant
35:36a willing spirit to sustain me. David
35:40understood that revival begins when joy
35:44returns.
35:47He understood that revival will begin
35:49when joy is returned. He did not ask God
35:53for a throne. He did not ask God for
35:56wealth. He did not ask God for power.
35:59Some of us are asking for the wrong
36:02things.
36:04>> GOD GIVE ME A SPOUSE. GIVE ME A WIFE.
36:07GIVE ME A HUSBAND. GOD GIVE ME A BETTER
36:10JOB. GOD GIVE ME MONEY. GIVE ME THIS
36:14material things. Give me more of this.
36:18And the truth is some of US WHEN WE GET
36:21ALL OF THOSE THINGS, WE'RE still not
36:24happy.
36:27[applause]
36:28>> You want to talk to people with a lot of
36:30money. YOU WANT TO talk to a LOT OF
36:32PEOPLE THAT YOU THINK ARE SUCCESSFUL.
36:36>> Most of them WILL TELL YOU THEY'RE not
36:38happy.
36:40>> He never asked God for wealth.
36:44He did NOT ASK GOD FOR POWER. HE simply
36:47asked God for joy.
36:51>> Because when you lose the joy of your
36:55salvation, everything else begins to
36:58decline.
37:00>> Everything. Now, there are two things
37:03every believer must recover. Every
37:07believer, you got to recover these two
37:09things. Number one, the joy of your
37:11salvation.
37:12The church today does not have a worship
37:15problem. Please hear me. We don't have a
37:18worship problem. We have a joy problem.
37:23>> It's not a worship. Oh, we've got
37:25incredible worship leaders.
37:28>> We have incredible musicians. Yes,
37:31>> if I must say, you know, of course,
37:32we're only a portion of the
37:34representation of the body of Christ,
37:36but I have to tell you, the faith center
37:38has some of the greatest musicians and
37:42worship leaders.
37:45[applause]
37:47But I have to tell you,
37:50we don't have a worship problem.
37:54>> We know how to worship. OUR PROBLEM IS
37:58WE LOST OUR JOY.
38:01>> Many people still attend CHURCH BUT HAVE
38:03LOST THE EXCITEMENT OF BEING A FOLLOWER
38:06OF JESUS CHRIST.
38:09>> You may come to church BUT YOU'VE LOST
38:12THAT PASSION AND THAT JOY to follow
38:15Christ.
38:16>> Some people HAVE STOPPED COMING TO
38:19CHURCH BECAUSE THEY'VE LOST THE JOY OF
38:23FOLLOWING JESUS CHRIST. They stop coming
38:26to church because of a preacher. They
38:27stop coming to church because of they
38:29say Christians are hypocrites. They stop
38:32coming to church because they hear on
38:35the streets THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE THAT
38:37ALL OF THIS IS HYPOCRISY AND IT'S NOT
38:40REAL AND GOD IS not real and it's a
38:42white man's UM DOCTRINE AND ALL THESE
38:46STUFF. But let me tell you something.
38:48You've been tricked. WHEN YOU KNOW GOD
38:51for yourself and you have a personal
38:54relationship with him, it's beyond
38:57religion.
39:00It's a relationship.
39:04So, they've lost their joy and their
39:06excitement to follow Christ.
39:09The joy that once caused them to pray
39:11has faded. The joy that once caused them
39:14to serve has diminished. Remember
39:19when you were excited about serving God
39:21and serving in his kingdom?
39:23So many believers are so comfortable
39:27coming to church, sitting,
39:30>> preach me happy,
39:32>> lead me into worship, let me have a good
39:34time,
39:35>> but not willing to serve.
39:38>> Not willing to say, "Let me be a greeter
39:40in the lobby cuz I have the gift of
39:42hospitality." Some of you are so gifted
39:46and smiling. you're gifted in welcoming
39:49some people because it's everybody don't
39:51have that.
39:54>> Some people are mean and insensitive cuz
39:57they they they they just go through so
39:59much trauma. But some of you are gifted.
40:02You know how to deal with children. So
40:04you're not willing to serve in
40:05children's church. You don't know how to
40:07serve. You don't know how to serve as
40:09servant leaders. You've lost all of
40:11that. You will come into the house of
40:13God and be IN CHURCH FOR 20 YEARS.
40:17and never serve.
40:21>> THE JOY THAT ONCE CAUSED them
40:24to serve has diminished
40:27>> and sadly many
40:29show no interest in serving in ministry,
40:33no interest in volunteering their time
40:36and no interest of being generous.
40:40Some people struggle during offering
40:42time. mixed emotions
40:46and the enemy gets into their head and
40:49their feelings and and and and and
40:52before you know it, it becomes an
40:55uncomfortable moment for them because
40:58they've lost their joy of serving Jesus
41:01Christ. The joy that once caused them to
41:05share Christ
41:08has now disappeared.
41:12Since January,
41:14have you told anybody about God?
41:17>> My God.
41:18>> My God.
41:20>> Have you ever witnessed to your family,
41:23your co-workers,
41:25you had multiple opportunities
41:28>> when they were telling you their
41:29problems?
41:32Have you once said to somebody,
41:35"Let me talk to you about God,
41:38I'm not forcing Christianity on you and
41:41my my faith on you, but I know you're
41:44going through something, but let me tell
41:47you how I walk through what you are
41:49currently experiencing.
41:51>> What you are currently experiencing,
41:54I've been through that. When was the
41:57last time you shared your faith?"
42:01But oh, if I would ask you
42:04how many stuff in social media you have
42:07shared
42:11>> and most of what you have shared
42:15>> is not healthy stuff.
42:18>> I'm talking to kingdom citizens now.
42:22Nehemiah verse 8:10 says, "The joy of
42:24the Lord is your strength." When joy
42:28disappears, strength disappears. When
42:32joy returns, strength returns. The enemy
42:36cannot stop a believer who is genuinely
42:40joyful about what Jesus has done in
42:43their lives.
42:45And here's the second thing a believer
42:47needs to recover.
42:50It's an intentional pursuit of God.
42:55>> This one is big.
42:57intentional pursuit of God. David also
43:01asked GOD FOR A WILLING SPIRIT. CUZ
43:04LISTEN, IF WE DON'T ASK GOD FOR A
43:06WILLING SPIRIT TO SERVE HIM, we're not
43:08going to serve him.
43:11>> He asked God for willing spirit.
43:14He says a willing spirit that chooses
43:18you daily
43:21because revival is not an event. It's
43:24not Sunday morning. It's not a
43:26conference. It's a lifestyle.
43:30>> That's what it means to re be revived.
43:32Jeremiah 29:13,
43:35you will seek me and find me when you
43:37seek me with all
43:40>> of your heart. That's intentional
43:42worship. So the challenge faced in the
43:45modern day church today is not a lack of
43:49information.
43:51Sadly, it's the lack of commitment.
43:54We have more sermons, podcasts, books,
43:56and researches than ever before.
43:59Yet, we are unhappy. We're confused,
44:03unstable, and lack basic truths about
44:06the fundamentals of our Christian faith.
44:11Think about that.
44:13I mean, podcast upon podcast,
44:16books, and all these electronic stuff we
44:20have. Yet we, the body of Christ, are
44:24walking around unhappy. Let's tell the
44:26truth. Unhappy in our homes, [snorts]
44:29unhappy in our marriages,
44:31unhappy running our businesses, very
44:34much unhappy.
44:36We We dress up our unhappiness,
44:41>> not knowing that it's the joy of knowing
44:44God
44:46>> that's going to give you the strength to
44:48continue this journey in life. So, let
44:51me briefly conclude this by walking you
44:54through each of the 11 verses
44:58of Psalm 51 before we get to verse 12.
45:02I want to show you what David meant when
45:06he was saying, "God, revive me and
45:09sustain me." The very first verse says,
45:12"Have mercy on me, oh God." David began
45:16with mercy. He knew he could not earn or
45:20work his way to forgiveness because
45:23revival begins when we depend on God's
45:29mercy. Verse two, it says, "Wash away
45:33all my iniquity." David wanted complete
45:36cleansing,
45:38NOT A SUNDAY MORNING FEELGOOD.
45:42>> Come to church. I think I got my word. I
45:45think I got blessed today.
45:48He wanted to live this every day.
45:52He wanted a complete change, not partial
45:56change, not an image management.
46:01Not to just change my image for a
46:03season. He wanted to be transformed. He
46:07wanted real transformation. Verse three,
46:11for I know my transgressions. David
46:14accepted responsibility for his sin.
46:17the [clears throat] sin that he
46:18committed. Because revival, watch this,
46:21begins where excuses end.
46:26>> The moment you stop making excuses and
46:29you say, God, only against you have I
46:32sinned,
46:33>> then revival will begin in your life,
46:35verse four, and again you are against
46:37you and you only have I sinned. David
46:40understood that every sin ultimately
46:43affects our relationship with God. Verse
46:46five surely
46:49I was sinful at birth. He acknowledged
46:53his human condition because without
46:56God's grace, none of us stands a chance
47:01of having real joy. Romans 3:23 tells
47:05us, "For all have what? Sinned and fall
47:09short of God's glory." Number six, you
47:13desire [snorts] faithfulness.
47:16God desires truth. Truth in the inward
47:20part of from all of us. He wants
47:23authenticity,
47:25not our performance.
47:28>> There's a difference. Verse seven, I
47:30love this. Wash me and I will be whiter
47:33than snow. David believed restoration
47:36was possible because you cannot be
47:39revived if you do not believe God can
47:42restore you. Verse eight, let me hear
47:46joy and gladness. And this is where the
47:49meat of the message comes into play. Let
47:53me hear joy and gladness. Can I ask you
47:56a question? When was the last time you
47:59could honestly say you had real joy?
48:04that you were really glad. I'm not
48:06talking about because you got your
48:08paycheck.
48:10I'm not talking about because somebody
48:12gave you something. When was the last
48:14time you sat in YOUR HOUSE, YOU SAT IN
48:17THE CAR, you sat among all the material
48:20things that you've acquired and honestly
48:23can say even if you lose them all,
48:28still have joy.
48:32Cuz some of YOU ARE ONLY SMILING BECAUSE
48:36YOU HAVE THE JOB.
48:38>> You're only smiling BECAUSE THE CAR YOU
48:40GOT IN THE PARKING LOT, IT'S A nice car.
48:45>> The house you LIVE IN, THE APARTMENT YOU
48:47LIVE IN, IT'S NICE. YOU GOT A FEW
48:50DOLLARS IN the bank account. YOUR JOY IS
48:53BASED ON YOUR POSSESSION.
48:56And I promise you, the moment you lose
48:58them,
48:59>> the moment you lose them, your joy is
49:02gone.
49:03>> But there are some people don't have all
49:06of that.
49:08They don't have the fancy car. Come on
49:10now. They don't have the big house. They
49:12don't have a lot of money in the bank.
49:14But boy, they are full of joy.
49:18Am I talking to anybody out there today?
49:20They are full of joy.
49:24Let me hear joy and gladness. Verse
49:27nine, hide your face from my sins.
49:32David, his desire was for forgiveness
49:36and reconciliation
49:38because he could not deal with how his
49:42actions
49:44changed the image of who God has created
49:47him to be.
49:49There's something about when you look in
49:51the mirror and you are honest with
49:53yourself and you say,
49:57"I'm not at my best."
50:02>> Come on now, brothers. Go into when you
50:05go home, go in the mirror, man. Like
50:07women, you know, women, they always do
50:08it, you know,
50:10from every side.
50:13Just go in the mirror and look at
50:15yourself.
50:16Am I pleased with who I am?
50:23>> Am I the best version of myself?
50:27Ladies, are you the best version of
50:31yourself?
50:33David cried to God, "Hide
50:38your face from my sins." Cuz he knew
50:40what he did was wrong.
50:45He knew that the sin that he comm or
50:48sins
50:51he was with the wrong woman
50:54and to cover it up because when you sin
50:57you got to sin again to cover up the
51:00first sin and then you got to sin again
51:02to cover up the first sin then the
51:04second sin then you got to sin again.
51:06You know it's kind you got to lie to
51:08cover up the first lie to cover up the
51:11third lie and the fourth lie. He knew
51:13it.
51:15And when he stood before God, he knew
51:18God wasn't pleased with him cuz he knew,
51:20watch this. Have you ever thought about
51:24this for a moment, that when God created
51:27David,
51:30he created him to be king?
51:36>> Wait, this is good stuff. WHEN GOD
51:38CREATED HIM, HE WAS CREATED TO BE A
51:42KING. EVEN THOUGH HIS FATHER DID NOT PUT
51:46GREAT VALUE on him,
51:48>> he was still king.
51:50So even when people don't recognize you,
51:53even when people don't appreciate you or
51:55value you or even when your mother and
51:58your father weren't there for you and
52:00supported you, when God put something in
52:04you, ain't nobody can take it away from
52:07you.
52:09It was already in him. And brothers, I'M
52:13TELLING YOU TODAY, YES, YOU MIGHT HAVE
52:16BEEN LIKE DAVID, sinned against God,
52:22but once God put a king in you,
52:27>> EVEN WITH YOUR PAST SINS,
52:31he still has purpose for your life.
52:35>> He still wants to use you.
52:38I don't CARE HOW MANY DRUGS YOU HAVE
52:41taken in the past. I don't care HOW MANY
52:44WOMEN'S LIFE you have ruined.
52:47I don't care how YOU HAVE SPENT ALL OF
52:49YOUR MONEY. LISTEN TO me men.
52:53>> YOU MIGHT HAVE MADE A WHOLE LOT OF
52:55MISTAKE. YOU MIGHT HAVE COMMITTED MURDER
52:58LIKE David
53:01>> and the LAW HAS NOT CAUGHT UP TO YOU.
53:05>> I'm telling you today
53:07When Moses OR DAVID STOOD BEFORE GOD,
53:13>> he said, "God,
53:16you know my sins.
53:19I'm not going to pretend.
53:22I know what I did.
53:25So God, don't hide your face cuz if if
53:28you turn your back on me, I'm done."
53:33>> HE KNEW THAT. I'M DONE. HE SAID, "GOD,
53:37DON'T HIDE YOUR FACE FROM ME. RESTORE
53:40THE JOY
53:42>> of myself. RESTORE THE JOY." AS A
53:45SHEPHERD BOY, [screaming]
53:46I USED TO SIT DOWN WITH THE HARP AND I
53:49USED TO PLAY MUSIC AND SING SONGS. I
53:52WROTE SONGS. I'm gifted. I'M A WRITER.
53:58AND I LOST IT BECAUSE I SINNED.
54:02>> Don't turn your back on me now.
54:06Even though there's a man in the grave
54:07that's crying out because I killed him.
54:12>> Don't hide it from me. You're in this
54:15room today. You're streaming and I'm
54:17telling you, there's a lot of stuff you
54:20did that's buried.
54:23Ain't nobody know about it.
54:26And you're saying, "God, how can you use
54:28me?
54:30How can you still use me?
54:34Why are you chasing after me? Why do I
54:38keep going to the faith center and hear
54:41this preacher and OTHER PEOPLE STILL
54:44PUSHING ME? WHY DO I FEEL SO
54:47UNCOMFORTABLE IN MY chair
54:50feel as if I'M THE ONLY ONE IN THIS ROOM
54:53THIS GUY IS TALKING TO?
54:56WHY WHEN I LEAVE CHURCH AND I GO HOME, I
55:00CAN'T GET THE WORDS OF WHAT I HEARD IN
55:03SERVICE out of my head? Could it be that
55:07God is chasing after you
55:11>> while you're running away from him
55:14and he's saying he's saying to you, you
55:19need to be like David
55:21>> when he said create in me.
55:26See, this is where intentional worship
55:29comes into play. Create in me
55:34a clean, pure heart, oh God.
55:39This was perhaps the greatest prayer
55:42David prayed.
55:45>> I'm not hiding from you anymore.
55:48I want to be revived.
55:52I want to feel the presence of God back
55:54in my life
55:57when I was in the bush
56:00when I was out there in the field
56:03and my father didn't even recognize my
56:05gift.
56:07But you, oh God,
56:09knew that if anybody was going to be
56:13anointed,
56:14it was me.
56:16Oh, I feel by the presence and the
56:19anointing of the Holy Spirit today that
56:22so many of you
56:25God is walking the earth by the spirit
56:29and he's looking to anoint you. Listen
56:32to me.
56:34There's an oil
56:37all over your head.
56:40God is searching the earth looking
56:43to anoint you,
56:47>> but you're not in the right position.
56:51>> You're like David's brother.
56:54You want to be on display.
56:57Your pride is what's destroying you.
57:02David was in the backside of the desert
57:04working. God is always looking for
57:07humble people. If my people who are
57:10called by my name would humble
57:13themsself, praise and seek my face.
57:17Watch this. Turn. There has to be a
57:20turning. Listen to me, sir. Listen to
57:22me, ma'am. Until you turn,
57:25there won't be healing. There won't be
57:28deliverance. You got to turn from your
57:30wicked ways.
57:33Come on now. You got to turn, man.
57:36[music]
57:37And now is the time. And now is the
57:39moment to turn.
57:43>> To turn.
57:45>> I want you to bow your heads.
57:48>> I want you to close your eyes if you can
57:50so nobody's distracted. I'm going to let
57:51you go.
57:55But I don't know who this message was
57:57for.
58:00But I'm telling you today, sir, ma'am
58:04David,
58:08verse 12.
58:11Verse 12. Put it up on the screen for
58:14me. Verse 12.
58:16Verse 12 is very important.
58:20It It is the heartbeat of every
58:23believer.
58:25Restore to me.
58:29restore.
58:34Sir, you have lost your joy, man.
58:38Come on, woman of God.
58:42Don't don't don't sugarcoat this. Your
58:46joy left a long time ago.
58:50And God is saying, you ought to be like
58:53David. Restore the joy
58:56of your salvation.
58:59and help me to have a willing spirit so
59:01I can be sustained. Father, I thank you
59:04that those who are streaming, those who
59:06are on campus, heard your word today and
59:10you challenge us to be restored.
59:15Oh, I sense that there are so many men,
59:19so many men
59:22who have given up on dreaming,
59:27given up on becoming the best version of
59:31themselves
59:32because they have allowed their past
59:34mistakes
59:38to dictate
59:40that they are failures.
59:44these men, there's no failure in them
59:47because if you can still use David, you
59:50can use them, too.
59:53So, I thank you that today's a day of
59:56revival for your men, for these women.
59:59Today's a day of restoration for them.
60:03And we thank you quickly with every head
60:06bowed, every eyes still closed.
60:10Ladies, please excuse me
60:13by just doing this specifically for men.
60:21Doesn't mean you don't need it to. But I
60:23want every [music] man
60:26who feel that this message was yours
60:30and you know in your heart
60:32you lost the joy. You lost the joy of
60:36serving God
60:39and you know you have to get it back. I
60:41want you to come meet me down to the
60:44front. Meet me right here. Come on. Meet
60:47me right here. You lost the joy. You
60:50lost it.
60:52You lost it. Don't play with this now.
60:55You know you lost it. Come on. Come on,
60:58guys. Come on.
61:04>> [music]
61:08>> You lost it.
61:11You lost it.
61:15You lost it.
61:21[music]
61:23Come on.
61:26Come on.
61:28Come on.
61:29Keep
61:32>> [applause and music]
61:35>> Now, I'm not going to drag this out cuz
61:38we got to get out of here. I'm not going
61:40to drag this out.
61:44But some of you guys are in your seat
61:48and you know
61:50God pierced your heart this morning with
61:53the word.
61:57And I'm going to ask you one more time.
62:02The the Holy Spirit is tugging at you. I
62:05need you to get up out of your seat and
62:08I need you to come down here as fast as
62:11you can. Do not play with this moment.
62:17Don't play with this moment.
62:20[music]
62:24Don't play with this moment.
62:28Don't play with this moment.
62:32Thank you.
62:34Thank you. Now,
62:38we're going to [music] pray with you
62:41and then we're going to let you go. But
62:42here's the thing I want to tell all of
62:44you, all of you men.
62:46And here pastor today,
62:52you don't have a lot of time.
62:57I don't care your age.
62:59You don't have a lot of time.
63:03You are a target of the enemy.
63:09>> Cuz watch this. If he can get you, watch
63:12this. If he can get you,
63:16He gets your house.
63:20>> If he can get your house, he gets the
63:23woman of your life. He gets your
63:26children.
63:27He gets your wealth. And he gets your
63:30legacy.
63:33Now you have to make the choice to
63:35decide whether or not you want to give
63:39everything to the devil.
63:42It's all up to you. If you want to call
63:44it quits now and say, "I give up." You
63:48can let him have it all. And trust me,
63:51he's a thief. He comes to kill, steal,
63:54and to destroy.
63:58But if you embrace the word of the Lord
64:00this morning and embrace what [music]
64:03God has to offer you, he says, "I come
64:04that you might have life in abundance
64:08till it overflows."
64:11So what you have to do today is like
64:13David, be honest to God. Tell God your
64:17weakness. Tell God the areas you failed
64:19at. And be the best version of yourself.
64:25Deep on the inside of you, there's a
64:27king. David, there's a king in you.
64:31I don't care what you're struggling
64:33with. I don't care. There's a king in
64:37you. You might have committed a crime.
64:40There's a king in you. You may be
64:43struggling with pornography.
64:45There's a king in you.
64:49You may be struggling with how to manage
64:51a woman. There's a king in you. Probably
64:54haven't supported your children. There's
64:56a king in you.
65:00But as long AS YOU KEEP RUNNING FROM
65:02GOD,
65:04the enemy will destroy you.
65:08But if you be like David, don't hide
65:11your face from me.
65:13>> Don't let my sins cause you to turn your
65:17back towards me. I'm here for you guys.
65:22I will be praying for you daily. And I
65:27don't say that casually.
65:30I am praying for you because I'm telling
65:33you what I see in your future. Listen,
65:37I'm a guy. I can see into the future.
65:41I'm telling you what I see in all of you
65:45is greatness.
65:47But Satan wants to take it from you.
65:50Don't let him have it.
65:53Don't let him have it. Please. I am
65:57begging you, do not let the devil have
66:01your best years.
66:04Take hold of your life now.
66:08Now change now. Turn now. Be a good man
66:14now. Not tomorrow.
66:16Now.
66:19And watch how the joy of your salvation
66:23will be restored.
66:26Watch how you'll be happy even when you
66:28struggle with money.
66:31>> Because it's not things that makes you
66:34happy,
66:35it's God.
66:38>> It's God. [music]
66:41Amen. So do me a favor. Raise your hand.
66:44Everybody stand. Everybody stand.
66:47Everybody stand. Stretch your hands
66:50towards these men. Everybody out there,
66:52those of you are streaming, maybe you're
66:54a man out there and you're saying, "I'm
66:56not in the building, but please pray for
66:58me." Stretch your hands towards the
67:00screen that you're watching.
67:03Father, I pray for these men who are
67:06online and those here in front. They
67:11needed to hear this word. Thank you.
67:14Thank you that they've received it.
67:17And today I believe
67:19they are turning their hearts over to
67:22you. They're like David. Create in me a
67:25clean heart. Renew in me a right spirit.
67:29Would you touch every one of these men
67:32today? I pray that Father, a year from
67:35now when they look back, they'll see the
67:37progress. that you will surround them
67:40with the right men and women in their
67:42lives who will support them on their
67:44faith journey. Thank you that these men
67:48will live to GLORIFY YOU. 20 YEARS from
67:51now, these men would look back and be
67:53able to teach their own children how to
67:57survive a failure, how to pick
68:00themselves back up and turn to God.
68:03Touch them today, I pray. I believe you
68:06kept them alive for such a moment. Some
68:08of them should have been dead a long
68:10time ago, but God, you preserve them for
68:13such a moment like this.
68:17Thank you for blessing them. Thank you
68:19for this congregation. Thank you for
68:22allowing your Holy Spirit to guide us
68:25even through some difficult seasons.
68:28Bless these women. Strengthen them, I
68:30pray. Thank you that they're praying for
68:33us men as we pray for them. bless this
68:36ministry as we come on Wednesday for
68:39Bohemian worship night. Holy Spirit, let
68:42your presence meet us here. And we thank
68:45you that the men, the men will be coming
68:47out this Saturday praying, walking the
68:50property, the grounds of this property,
68:53praying, God, because I believe when men
68:56stand up and begin to pray, God, the the
68:59windows of heaven will begin to open and
69:04you'll pour out blessings upon us and we
69:06give you praise for it in Jesus name.
69:09And everybody shout,
69:11>> amen. Come on, lift your hands and let's
69:13say the benediction. Faith in God will
69:16move mountains out of my life. God bless
69:19you. Thank you all for coming today. See
69:22you on Wednesday. Blessings, brothers.
69:24Blessings, brothers. Come on. Encourage
69:27these men.
