Summary
Pastor David T. Elms exhorts the congregation to move beyond superficial religion and rely solely on the authority of Jesus Christ, emphasizing that a true 'People of The Name' must be born again of water and Spirit.
Key points
- •The authority of the church and individual salvation rests solely on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, not on personality, talent, or property.
- •True salvation requires a 'right now' commitment and active discipleship, warning against the doctrine of 'once saved, always saved.'
- •Being 'People of the Name' means being identified with the authority and brand of Jesus, specifically through baptism in His name and the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
- •Pastoral leadership is meant to be like a shepherd leading sheep with a song of love, rather than a rancher driving cattle with a whip.
- •The name of Jesus is the only name under heaven given for salvation, representing the full authority and integrity of God.

Life application
Audit your 'consecration' this week by moving beyond past spiritual experiences to seek a fresh, daily walk with God, and ensure you have personally obeyed the biblical command to be baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with His Spirit.
Reflection questions
- On what authority are you basing your hope for heaven: your own goodness, your church attendance, or the Word of God?
- Pastor Elms mentioned the difference between forgiveness and remission. How does knowing your sins are completely wiped away change your prayer life?
- Are you following the 'song of the Shepherd' out of love, or do you find yourself only moving when you feel the 'whip' of life's circumstances or guilt?
- What does it mean to you practically to be 'branded' by the name of Jesus in your daily interactions?

0:00build on right here. On Jesus Christ. on
0:00Jesus Christ. Amen. My subject today is
0:01a people of the name. Sister Lynn read
0:06our text out of the book of Acts. Uh if
0:09you don't know this, let me give you a
0:11little hint. You can take every sermon
0:14anybody preaches on YouTube and drop it
0:18into Grock and you can have it analyze
0:21whether or not the church the sermon
0:24spoke theologically correct or not.
0:27You can get it to analyze if the
0:29preacher preached with isoges Jesus,
0:30which means he makes up doctrines, or
0:33exesus, which means it's sound according
0:36to the Bible. All artificial
0:38intelligence is not accurate. Okay? So,
0:41don't believe it all. Many of them
0:43hallucinate because they've been taking
0:44too many quaudes. But you you can you
0:47can understand that this is a way you
0:51can analyze things. So, I found this
0:54out. I analyzed my own preaching a
0:56couple weeks ago to see if I was correct
0:58theologically and it's amazing how
1:00correct I was. It came back and it
1:03sanctioned that this preacher was
1:05correct theologically. He did not have
1:07any isogesis. He was sound to the text.
1:10And ladies and gentlemen, don't trust AI
1:13for everything. You need to tr trust
1:14your brain. But these tools can be
1:17helpful in the process of what's going
1:20on. Uh and so this uh this message I'm
1:23preaching today, I exhort you to take
1:26it, dump it in, and see if it was
1:28theologically correct because many
1:30churches can be built
1:33on personality
1:37or if the band is good, talent.
1:41If the singers are amazing, singing.
1:44Some people go to church because of the
1:46worship music. Some people go to the
1:48church because the preacher's funny or
1:50like this church, some people go to
1:52church because the preacher's funny
1:53looking. There's various reasons why
1:56people go to church. But do you want to
1:58know how large the church is? The size
2:01of the church is how many will fly when
2:04the trumpet sounds?
2:08>> The question I'm asking you today, are
2:10you going to fly when the trumpet
2:11sounds?
2:13>> And on what authority will you fly?
2:17you judge yourself or do you have
2:19someone answering for your soul?
2:22>> Have you determined you're good enough
2:23to go to heaven? How good is the
2:26authority of your own word?
2:30Because there's one thing that matters
2:32on judgment day. Not the size of the
2:35property of the church you attend,
2:37>> not the talent of the preacher that you
2:39listen to on Sundays, not the giftedness
2:42of the band or the music that you hear.
2:44There's only one thing that's going to
2:46matter. Whether or not you have the
2:48heaven ticket. It's better than the
2:50golden ticket of Willy Wonka. The heaven
2:53ticket. Do you have the gospel of Jesus
2:56Christ in your life? If you don't have
3:00the gospel, you may have a gospel
3:02pastor, but you will not fly. You may go
3:05to a gospel church, but will you will
3:07not fly. You may know gospel family
3:09members, but you will not fly. There's
3:11coming a day Jesus said that he's going
3:13to call us up when the king comes. And
3:16he told us a parable of five foolish
3:19virgins and five wise virgins. And the
3:22five that were wise were obedient to his
3:26word. They kept their oil full. And they
3:29were obedient when they heard the
3:31bridegroom was coming. The five foolish,
3:34they were obedient to the word. They
3:36kept themselves for the coming of the
3:38king. But they thought they could figure
3:41it all out themselves. And they could
3:44always judge whether or not they have
3:46enough godliness that they need. And
3:48that's where the Lord said, "I came."
3:50And because they were a little low on
3:52oil and they were looking for oil, they
3:55come back and they beat on the door
3:58because they were qualified. They were
4:00Holy Ghost fil. They were baptized in
4:02Jesus' name. They had kept themselves
4:05for him.
4:07And when he answered the door, he said,
4:10"Depart from me. You worker of iniquity.
4:16I never knew you."
4:20Now, I'm not saying that's how I would
4:22say it.
4:24I'm saying that's how the Lord said it.
4:27Now, the authority of a church is not
4:29whether or not they own property,
4:30whether they're registered in
4:32Tallahassee as a nonprofit organization,
4:34whether or not they have a preacher, a
4:36pastor, or have a church board. The
4:39authority of the church, the only reason
4:41we're here, the number one reason is
4:44that you're born again of the water and
4:46the spirit and are living a life that
4:48when the Lord comes back, hey, I'm 59
4:52years old. Not one piece of technology
4:55has ever removed the truth of the coming
4:59of the Lord. Not a false doctrine that
5:01I've ever been exposed to, and I've seen
5:03an awful lot of them in my life. Not one
5:05false doctrine, that personality pounded
5:08into the Bible, and it was never in the
5:10Bible, has removed the fact that he's
5:12coming back one day. There's nobody that
5:15I've ever known that's changing the fact
5:17that he's coming back one day. And the
5:19question that I'm asking you today is,
5:21what authority
5:23are you standing on that when he calls
5:26his bride up that you're going to fly?
5:29Is it a Holy Ghost certificate? Because
5:31that's not enough. Is it a baptismal
5:34certificate? Because that's not enough.
5:37See, the damnable doctrine of once-
5:39saved, always saved is never found in
5:42your Bible.
5:44>> It's never proclaimed that once you get
5:46saved, you can never be lost. Paul said
5:49it like this. He said, "Woe unto me if
5:52lest when I have preached to others, I
5:56become a cast away." And I know all the
6:00words that they say, "Oh, God's not a a
6:03giver like that. If he says you're his,
6:04you're his." No. He said that these
6:07foolish virgins, that's a a word of
6:11purity. That's a word of consecration.
6:13That's a word of sacrifice. That's a
6:15word of of disciplehip.
6:18They had all these things but because
6:21they had neglected the accuracy of their
6:24consecration, the effectiveness of their
6:27consecration, the right now addition of
6:31their consecration. Listen, I was
6:33serving God in 1960s. I got the Holy
6:36Ghost in 1973.
6:38How could I have been serving God in
6:3960s? Because I sang in the Christmas
6:41program in 1969.
6:46Okay. I hadn't got the Holy Ghost yet,
6:48but I sang in the Christmas program.
6:50When [snorts] I got to be five, they set
6:52a chair up in the church in San Diego.
6:54Church in San Diego that we attended had
6:56a building that seats probably 600
6:58people. It was a very large church. It's
7:00shaped like an ark. And they set me up
7:02on a chair and I got up there. I said,
7:04"Fill my cup or I if it up or come and
7:09quench this thirsting of my soul. Bread
7:12of heaven, feed me till I want no more.
7:17Here's my cup. Fill it up and make me
7:20whole.
7:22I've never got over that solo. I've been
7:24requesting myself to sing ever since.
7:29I was in the church, but if I didn't get
7:32a 70s edition of a restoration, I would
7:36have been lost. If I didn't get a 90s
7:38edition or 80s, I forgot the 80s. You
7:40can't. Who can forget the 80s? Nobody
7:43can forget the 80s.
7:45>> The best music ever.
7:52>> I needed an 80s edition of an outpouring
7:54of the Holy Ghost.
7:56>> I'm talking to some old-timers in this
7:58place who think you got it like that.
7:59You don't have it like that. If you
8:02don't have a right now commitment, a
8:05right now consecration, a right now walk
8:07with God, a right now sacrifice, a right
8:10now commitment, who do you think you
8:12are?
8:17And so walking with God is not what
8:19church I knew, what preacher's name has
8:22been signed to whatever baptismal
8:24certificate I had. No, that's not it.
8:26Are you in favor with God right now?
8:30Are you walking with him right now?
8:32Because the authority of God's word is
8:34an active actively being a disciple of
8:38the Lord. Judas got to walk away from
8:40the Lord. Judas was one of the 12. Judas
8:43was one of those that God handos and
8:46chose and got to walk with him to see
8:48every miracle he ever performed. In
8:50fact, he was so trusted that he was the
8:53treasurer of all the the business
8:55transactions of the disciples. That
8:58meant he was the one Jesus could trust
8:59with the money. And that's less than
9:01half of this church.
9:06I joke. I kid.
9:10You know how many how many people you
9:12going to give your wallet to?
9:15Don't answer.
9:17That's what Jesus did. And yet Judas was
9:20a castaway
9:22because he thought that he had the
9:26authority to make his own decisions and
9:28judge his own way. The Bible tells us in
9:31the word of God that the entirety of the
9:35church was built on one thing. They were
9:38a people that were called by the name of
9:43the Lord. And they were people of the
9:46name. Now, we're going to diagnose what
9:48name means today. In the Old Testament,
9:51he did many things. The Bible said, "For
9:54his name's sake, he led them for his
9:56name's sake. He forgave them. For his
9:59name's sake, he saved them. For his
10:01name's sake, he guided them for his
10:03name's sake." Psalm 23:3 tells us, "The
10:06Lord is our shepherd. I shall not want."
10:08He maketh me light down in green
10:09pastures. He leadth me beside the still
10:11waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadth
10:14me in the paths of righteousness.
10:17for his name's sake.
10:22Your praying today was for his name's
10:24sake. He leads you throughout this week
10:27for his name's sake. He's going to
10:29protect you on the way home today for
10:32his name's sake. Your life has crashed
10:34and hit the wall, but for his name's
10:36sake, he will step up and show you that
10:39he is the answer.
10:41It's his name's sake. Acts 15 we read as
10:45our text and there is chaos going on in
10:48the church. There's been a great
10:50discussion about whether or not the
10:52Gentiles will be accepted with the Jews.
10:55The Bible tells us very plainly that
10:57salvation is of the Jews. The Jews were
11:00the first group of people that Jesus
11:02came to save. He they are the first
11:04group of people through which salvation
11:07had to come. So all of you that seem
11:09like there are those who are
11:11anti-Jewish, you better stop because
11:14you're anti-Jesus. If you're
11:15anti-Jewish, Jesus is a Jew.
11:21>> And so he said, "Salvation is of the
11:23Jews. This is Bible. I'm not Jewish."
11:26Sister Wendy bragged on her Jewishness.
11:28You're not Jewish. Your mama's not
11:29Jewish. But she's got Jewishness in her
11:32because her dad is Jewish. I hate to
11:34bring the law down, but that's the way
11:36the Anyway, but she's Jewish enough to
11:40claim it because she's more Jewish than
11:41I am.
11:43And I would be proud of it, too. Wendy
11:45Garfinkle, she's already gone. She's she
11:48she was here for the early service. And
11:50so, here we go trying to say, "What's
11:53this fuss about?" In Acts 15, Simon, who
11:57was Peter, Simon had said, "God is
12:00expanding his church beyond just us of
12:03Jerusalem. He's going to reach to the
12:06Gentiles, the gohim. He's going to reach
12:09them and bring them into his body. How
12:12will we know they're his? Because they
12:14will be called by his name. They will be
12:18people who call on his name. the uh in
12:22fact James steps up who is the brother
12:24of Jesus and he says in the same chapter
12:26quoting Amos and he said the Gentiles
12:29are coming in upon whom my name is
12:34called.
12:35So we're a people that are branded by
12:39the name of Jesus,
12:41>> not the name of Abraham, Isaac, and
12:42Jacob.
12:43>> I'm not a son of Abraham. I know. I
12:45know. We sang as a kid. Father Abraham
12:47had many sons. Many sons had Father
12:49Abraham. I am one of them and so are
12:51you. So let's just praise the Lord. But
12:53really I'm not a son of Abraham except
12:56by
12:57faith.
12:59I am a son of God not by faith but by
13:04baptism.
13:06>> And by birth of the spirit.
13:09Oh. Uh. And so we understand through the
13:11Old Testament that the the name of the
13:14Lord is is placed as a special mark that
13:18he would put on his peculiar treasure.
13:22And it talks about how it would be a
13:24mark that was placed upon them. And
13:26Simon said that the church would be
13:29marked by the name of God. So when you
13:32say name, you're marked by the name or
13:35the authority or the uh glory of God.
13:40And so what is the name of God? The
13:43angel told Mary and Joseph, "Thou shalt
13:46call his name." It's not Christmas time,
13:50but I imagine all of you know the
13:51answer. Thou shalt call his name,
13:57>> Jesus. Yes.
13:59>> Now, I know he said Emmanuel, which
14:01means God with us,
14:03>> but nobody ever called him Emmanuel when
14:06it was time to crucify him.
14:09>> Nobody called him Emanuel when they
14:11called him before the Sanhedrin. Nobody
14:14called him Emanuel when they beat his
14:16back with a cat of nine tails. This was
14:19Jesus. And when the book of Acts happens
14:22and they're preaching around, they're
14:23not preaching in the name of Emanuel.
14:25They're not preaching in the name of
14:27Jehovah. They're not preaching in the
14:28name of Yahweh. The Bible says they
14:31preached everywhere, preaching Jesus
14:34everywhere they went. And they said,
14:36"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of
14:39Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God
14:42unto salvation.
14:46Jesus is the sweetest name I know." And
14:50he's just the same as his lovely name.
14:56And that's the reason why I love him so
15:01for Jesus is the sweetest name I know.
15:08Elijah Hoffman wrote, "Down at the cross
15:11where my Savior died. Down where for
15:15cleansing from sin I cried, there to my
15:19heart was the blood applied.
15:22Glory to his name.
15:27Frederick Whitfields wrote in 1855,
15:30"There is a name I love to hear. I love
15:34to sing its worth. It sounds like music
15:37to my ear. It's the sweetest name on
15:40earth." Luther Brides wrote in 1910,
15:44"Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I
15:49know fills my every longing
15:53keeps me singing as I go."
15:57What are all these songs about? John
16:00Ripen saying, "All hell. The power of
16:04Jesus name.
16:06Let angels prostrate fall. Bring forth
16:10the royal
16:14>> and crown him Lord
16:18of all.
16:20Bring forth the royal diadem
16:24and crown him Lord. [singing]
16:31There's nothing that's been invented,
16:33found by science, by technology that's
16:36ever taken away the authenticity of the
16:40truth of the word of God. The more they
16:42search, you would think by now they
16:44would have found a way to mess it all
16:46up. But they can't because it's proven
16:48itself to be sound archaeologically,
16:51geography wise, and the and and g
16:54geology wise. This book has been proven
16:56over and over and over again. They can
16:59talk about it. They can mock it. They
17:01can belittle it. But in 2026, it still
17:04reigns forever more. It's not an
17:07invention of hate. It's not a book of
17:10murder. It's not a book of destruction.
17:13It tells you, "Have mercy. Have grace.
17:16Be kind. Love people. Love your enemies.
17:20Stand up and know that God's got your
17:22back." I choose Jesus. I said, "I choose
17:26Jesus."
17:27Matthew 6:9 tells us how to pray. And
17:30when you end up the Lord's prayer, it
17:32always says when you say it, you say,
17:35"Hallowed
17:36>> be thy name." Psalm 72:19 said, "Blessed
17:42be his glorious name." Psalm 111:9 says,
17:47"Holy and reverend."
17:50It's the only place reverend is in the
17:52Bible. It's the reason I know I sign Rev
17:54every once in a while, but I'm not all
17:55that fond of being called reverend
17:57because I'm not reverend, holy, and
18:00reverend is his name. It's the only
18:03place in the Bible you'll find it, but
18:05there he is glorious. Philippians 2:9
18:08and 10, the Lord hath highly given him a
18:10name that is above every name, and that
18:13at the name of Jesus, every knee shall
18:16bow, every tongue shall confess that
18:18Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God
18:22the Father. Was it what does it mean
18:24when you say a name? What does the word
18:26name mean? Is it just a moniker? Just
18:29some way to distinguish what between
18:32people? You know what a name means? It's
18:34the integrity of that person. The Bible
18:37says a good name is to be chosen rather
18:41than great riches. You get a blight on
18:44your name. If you're not good for your
18:46word, the word will get out about you.
18:50When you find a con man, you better be
18:52careful. They'll throw their name around
18:54like it's worth something, but it's not
18:57worth much because conmen will lie to
19:00you. Con men will act like they're
19:02apart, but they're not apart. Con men
19:04come to church.
19:07Before you do business with anybody in
19:09this church, it might help you to call
19:11me.
19:12I not for permission, for information.
19:17I know who the cons are that come to
19:19church.
19:21I love them. It's a hospital. You take
19:24everybody that's wounded. You take
19:26everybody that's bleeding. You take
19:28everybody that needs Jesus. But before
19:30you do business, you better find out
19:32what's behind their name. Well, I met
19:33them at the church parking lot. They
19:34ought to be good. Not.
19:38Well, they were walking around in the
19:39altar. They're good. No.
19:43They just might not be. You don't want
19:46to intertwine with them just because
19:48they come to church. I'm warning you
19:50guys right now. I'm telling you, they'll
19:53play all kind of cards on you. I've been
19:55doing this for a long time in this
19:57church. 36 years I've been here. They'll
20:00come and they'll tell you all kind of
20:01things and then on the download they'll
20:03walk up to you and say, "Listen, I'm so
20:04embarrassed. Please don't tell anybody,
20:07but I need $1,000. Please, I'm down.
20:11Don't even let my wife know. It's it's
20:13it's too embarrassing. Please forgive
20:15me." And then they'll cry. Forgive me. I
20:17can't Only you will know. Yeah. And they
20:20own They owe other people thousands of
20:22dollars. 5,000 there, 4,000 there, 2,000
20:24there. And every one of them they played
20:26the same card. I'm trying to inoculate
20:28the house of God right now. Do you hear
20:30me? Is anybody listening?
20:33>> There's people that look holy and act
20:35holy, but their mouth isn't holy. So
20:37what you got to do is not build your
20:38life on men. You build your life on the
20:42kingdom of God. They call it church
20:44hurt, but has anybody told you about
20:46world hurt?
20:48Everywhere you can get hurt. There's a
20:50healer though in a world of hurt. There
20:53is a healer in a church of hurt. No
20:56church hurt is with is worth stopping
20:59your faithfulness. No church hurt is
21:01worth stopping your praise. No no no
21:05fraudulent preacher is worth stopping
21:07your worship. No immoral pulpit is worth
21:11stopping your faithfulness. No church
21:14board member that backslid is worth
21:17stopping loving the Lord. Because
21:19there's coming a day, ladies and
21:21gentlemen. There's coming a day when the
21:23trumpet's going to sound, and we which
21:26are alive [screaming] and remain after
21:28the dead have raised first shall be
21:30caught up to meet with him in the air.
21:33And so shall we.
21:39Sister Haiti is the service manager and
21:41she rushes into my church office when
21:44church is about to start to go over all
21:47of the plan and make sure things are
21:50orderly and and and so she walked in
21:53today and we were going through it and I
21:55don't know how the subject of the
21:57government came up and I said, "My Lord,
21:59the government can't do anything right."
22:02And listen, please, I'm not down on the
22:04government. There's never been a world
22:05without government. So if you want to
22:08find that part of the world, you I don't
22:09know where it is. I'll tell you.
22:10Antarctica. No, there's government down
22:12there. The moon. No, there's there's no
22:14world without government. But the Bible
22:17says
22:18of the increase of his
22:22government.
22:24That's the way the south says
22:26government. Government. The increase of
22:30his government and peace. There shall be
22:35No end. Not in 2026. No end. This is the
22:40one place that you can come and get
22:43tapped into. I listen. I want to be
22:45rich. I told the first church service, I
22:47want to be rich. I might as well admit
22:48it. I want to be rich. I want to be
22:51rich. I chose the wrong occupation to
22:53get rich. Unless I was like some of
22:55these preachers out there that are on
22:56their way to jail. Uh but I want to be
22:59rich and I don't want to be fragile. But
23:02I'd like to be rich one day. I would
23:04love to leave all my kids $10 million
23:07and then foundation the David Timothy
23:09and Melanie K. Elms Foundation where we
23:12give away about uh you know several
23:15hundred billion dollars. That would be
23:17awesome. It wouldn't it be wonderful?
23:19Don't run the alis right now. I know
23:21none of you can see that big, but I can.
23:23I'd love to be that big. I'm joking. Uh,
23:26I I want to have money like that. But
23:29Steve Jobs had all the money in the
23:31world. Uh, yeah. But uh um what does it
23:36do for you? What does it do for you if
23:40you don't have Jesus? If you haven't
23:42been born of the water and of the
23:44spirit, your smile is not good enough to
23:46get you in heaven. I know you've got a
23:47good one. You may have even got caps on
23:49all your teeth, but you don't have a
23:51good enough smile to get yourself into
23:53heaven. You might know some good jokes
23:55to tell Mr. Peter at the front gate, but
23:58it's not going to get you in heaven. I
23:59don't care who you know if you haven't
24:01been born of the water and the spirit. I
24:04didn't say it.
24:05>> Jesus said you won't even see you won't
24:08even see the kingdom of heaven. Now, I
24:12know there's a lot of people that think
24:13all I got to do is know how to speak his
24:15name. Uh go ahead on your own authority
24:18and see how that works out for you. But
24:20the Lord who has all authority who said
24:22I'm gonna build this house on my
24:24authority. He said, "I will build my
24:27house." Not David Elms won't build it.
24:30Not Pope Leo the 20th the third. What's
24:33What's his number?
24:35What's the Pope's number? I like 21 when
24:38I play basketball.
24:41Is he 13? He's 14. He likes that number.
24:45Number 14. Okay. I am number 21. This
24:48David Elms number 21. I liked the silver
24:51fox David Pearson of the Purilator
24:54Mercury car when the
24:57See, none of y'all even know back in the
25:00days of NASCAR racing when Rich Richard
25:02Petty, his nemesis was David Pearson,
25:04the silver fox. And that's the reason I
25:06like 21 because of the 21 purilator
25:08Mercury car in in in NASCAR. I don't
25:12care. You're bringing up my soft spot.
25:15Don't bring up the Chargers. Um,
25:18let me tell you something. I don't care
25:20what number you've got if you're not
25:22born of the water and of the spirit. The
25:25only one that matters is what Jesus
25:27says. The Bible said there is no other
25:30name under heaven given among men
25:33whereby we must be saved. Be baptized in
25:35the name of Jehovah, you won't be saved.
25:37Be baptized in the name of Yahweh, you
25:39won't be saved. You say, "Brother RMS,
25:41you're cutting person." No, I'm not. I'm
25:43reading straight out of the Bible. I'm
25:44telling you, there's a reason why
25:46there's no drainage ditches in this
25:49altar area. There's only one reason. If
25:51you were living under the old law, which
25:53Sabbathke keepers do that. If you want
25:55to keep the Sabbath, you got to keep
25:56under the old law. You want to know when
25:58Sabbath is? It's Saturday. If you got to
26:00keep the Sabbath, you better be having
26:02church on Saturday. But if you want to
26:04understand what the New Testament says,
26:06it talks about the Lord's day which is
26:09not Saturday which is the last day of
26:11the week or the first day of the week
26:12was Sunday which is now known as the
26:15eighth day. Although there's only seven
26:17days in a week, there's something about
26:18the eighth which is the number of new
26:20beginnings. And so they were always
26:22circumcised their babies on the eighth
26:24day. The Lord poured his Holy Ghost out
26:26on the eighth day which is Sunday.
26:28That's the reason you came here today
26:30because it's Sunday. Why? because we
26:32don't have drainage ditches in here. If
26:34you want to live under the old law, then
26:36you should have brought a lamb today to
26:38take away your sins. If you want to live
26:40under the old law, then you better get a
26:42bulock if you got riches. If you don't
26:44have much money, then you should have
26:45brought a turtle dove because the new
26:47law is the law of a bloodless a bloody
26:51lamb who shed his blood. And the reason
26:53we don't have all the infrastructure of
26:55the drainage of blood up here is because
26:57Jesus came and transferred us from
27:01Sabbathkeeping to understanding. He
27:04fulfilled it all. He is the Lord on
27:06Monday. He's the Lord on Tuesday. He's
27:08the Lord on Wednesday. He's the Lord on
27:10Thursday. He's the Lord on Friday. He's
27:13the Lord on Saturday. That's the reason
27:15there's no blood up here. Because I got
27:17a lamb, a spotless lamb who died that I
27:21could have my sin washed away.
27:27And I've got some wonderful friends who
27:29are Seventh Day Adventist. This is not a
27:31shot at the Seventh Day Adventist, but I
27:33want to proclaim to you, if it were not
27:35for the blood of Jesus, I would have to
27:37roll my sins ahead. That's the reason
27:39John the Baptist looked at Jesus coming
27:41over the mountain and said, "Behold the
27:43lamb of God which taketh away." Those
27:47two words were never mentioned in the
27:49Bible. Sin was never taken away before
27:53Jesus. They were just rolled ahead. And
27:56every year they had to sacrifice again
27:58to roll the sins ahead. And it was like
28:01a snowball effect. Your sins just kept
28:04getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
28:06And here came Jesus. And John the
28:08Baptist said, "Behold, not just a lamb,
28:11not another lamb, but this was the lamb
28:15of God who rose not on Saturday. He rose
28:20early on Sunday morning. The grave
28:23couldn't hold him.
28:26No [screaming] stone could keep him.
28:32I'm free because of Jesus Christ.
28:37He set me free. Yes, he set me free. He
28:43broke the bonds of prison for me.
28:48>> A good name. There's no name like his
28:51name. If you're baptized in the name of
28:53David, Timothy Elms, you won't be saved.
28:56If you're baptized in the name of
28:58Abraham, you won't be saved. If you're
29:00name baptized in the name of Pope Leo I
29:0313th, you won't be saved. If you're
29:05baptized in the name of Mary, the mother
29:07of Jesus, you won't be saved. No, no,
29:10no, no. I love all those people I just
29:12mentioned. And yes, I love the Pope just
29:15like I love Mary, the mother of Jesus.
29:17They both need the Holy Ghost. And they
29:19both have to be baptized in Jesus' name.
29:22I want to tell you today that when we
29:25come to the word of God, we built this
29:27church not on emotionalism. and I'm
29:30emotional. But it's not going to be
29:32built on emotionalism. It's got to be
29:35built on doctrine, not man-made
29:37doctrine, not traditional doctrine.
29:40That's the reason when you read the
29:41story of Saul's conversion. You remember
29:43you Bible readers know his name was
29:46Saul. You and I know him as Paul. He
29:48wrote a good portion. He wrote the most
29:50of the books of the New Testament. Side
29:52note, he didn't write the most words in
29:54the New Testament. The most words were
29:56written by Dr. Luke. Dr. Luke wrote the
29:58book of Luke. the Gospel of Luke. He
30:00also wrote the book of Acts. There are
30:03more words in those two books than all
30:05of the Apostle Paul's books put
30:07together. But Paul wrote the most books
30:10in the New Testament. But Paul's name
30:12was once Saul. And he looked at all the
30:14people who preached in the name of Jesus
30:16and he said, "You are heretics. You have
30:19not observed the law of Israel. I am a
30:21Pharisee of the Pharisees. I am of the
30:23tribes of Israel. I am a man who has
30:25kept the law all the days of my life.
30:27and you people are preaching in Jesus
30:29name. I'm going to lock up you women and
30:31I'm going to lock up you men. I'm going
30:33to persecute your church. And so he was
30:35on his way to Damascus where there were
30:38some preachers and some Christians, some
30:40apostolics, some people who were walking
30:42after the way of the apostles and Paul
30:44was go or Saul was going to lock them
30:46up. You know the story. A light came out
30:49of heaven, drove him down to the ground
30:51and it blinded him and he said, "Who art
30:55thou Lord?" In fact, the answer was why
30:59why persecutest thou me?
31:03This wasn't a recording from the ladies
31:05department of the church to be played at
31:08a certain No. God from heaven spoke.
31:12This was the voice of the Almighty
31:15speaking, "Why do you persecute me?" Let
31:19me tell you something. You mock God's
31:21people, you're messing with Jesus's
31:23body.
31:25And Saul stopped. He knew that's he gave
31:28his life to be a man of integrity and
31:30indoctrine.
31:32He said, "Who art thou, Lord?
31:36Who owns the voice from heaven?
31:39Who is the one who has the power on the
31:42volume of the sky?
31:44Who can speak from above the sun and the
31:47moon and the star? Who art thou Lord?"
31:50And the answer came back. I am Jesus
31:54whom thou persecutest.
31:58He was blind. He said, "What what do you
32:00want me to do?" The Lord said, "Go to
32:03the town. There on a street named
32:06straight is a preacher named Ananise. Go
32:10see him and he'll tell you what to do."
32:12All you people think you got direct line
32:14from God. He tells you what you're
32:15supposed to do. You're not even in the
32:17Bible. Because even Jesus didn't hear,
32:20didn't tell Saul what he was supposed to
32:22do other than go to a man. He has always
32:25used preachers. If you have a problem
32:26with a preacher, go hit the altar and
32:28find one that you can trust.
32:31>> Because God has always used a man to
32:34preach his word. I didn't ask to be a
32:37preacher. Most preachers didn't ask to
32:39be a preacher. But some preachers turn
32:41out to be frauds
32:43and they hurt people. But it doesn't
32:46change the order of God.
32:48>> And so here we come as preachers and we
32:50walk into the pullpit and we have to
32:52tell you if Jesus said that he's going
32:55to say to some, "Depart from me, you
32:58worker of iniquity, I never knew you."
33:01And these people had kept themselves and
33:04had oil in their vessel at one time and
33:06had a vessel that burned with fire. And
33:08he said, "Depart from me." And he's
33:10going to have angels that are going to
33:12cast them into the bottomless pit. I'm
33:14not telling you to go to hell. I'm
33:16telling you you're going to go to hell.
33:18I'm not saying go to hell. But if Jesus
33:21said if you don't serve him in the way
33:24that's honorable and in the manner of
33:26sound doctrine, not preacher religion,
33:30not church religion, no sound doctrine.
33:34Oh Lord, I want you to hear it. I hope
33:36you all like me, but if you don't, you
33:38better get in this book. This book's how
33:41we're going to be judged. I don't want
33:42you to fall after brother David Timothy
33:44Helms. No. I want you to get in the path
33:46of Jesus Christ. And if I can't pastor
33:49you, I beg you, find a pastor that can
33:52preach to your soul like Ananas
33:54converted brother Saul. And brother Saul
33:56was sitting there and and Ananas said to
33:58Saul, he said, "What are we doing?" He
34:01said, "You need to wash away your sins
34:04by remission." He said, "Well, how do I
34:06do it?" He said, "You've got to be
34:08baptized calling on the name of the
34:12Lord." It was clear that you don't go
34:14call on the name of the father and the
34:17name of the son and the name of the holy
34:19ghost. And I'm not belittling anybody.
34:22Hear me. Much of Christianity follows in
34:25the tradition of baptizing people in the
34:28titles father, son, and holy ghost. And
34:30the reason they do is because they have
34:32read Matthew 28:19 where Jesus said to
34:35his disciples, "Go forth." This is
34:37called the great commission. Go forth
34:39baptizing them in the name of the father
34:42and of the son and of the holy ghost.
34:44And so what tradition did, not the first
34:47church, not the second generation
34:49church, it wasn't until 325
34:52years after Jesus lived on the earth
34:54that they officially changed the baptism
34:58to the title, we baptize you in the
35:00title in the name of the father, son,
35:02and the holy ghost. Listen to me. I'm so
35:05glad for the name of the father and the
35:07name of the son and the name of the holy
35:09ghost. I'm glad I am all of those
35:12things. I'm not holy ghost. Okay. I'm
35:15father, I'm son, I'm husband, which is
35:18close to Holy Ghost.
35:23Listen to me. Here's the thing I'm
35:26telling you. It doesn't matter if you
35:29have great love for your pastor your
35:31whole life and he said, "This is the way
35:32to be baptized." I do not disrespect
35:35him, but I'm telling you, it's never
35:37done one time in the Bible like that
35:40because there's no power in a title.
35:43The title couldn't bleed.
35:46And that's the reason when Ananas told
35:48Paul how to be baptized, he said, "Go
35:51washing away your sins for remission,
35:54calling on the name of the Lord." Acts
35:57two, it's very clear. Repent and be
35:59baptized every one of you in the name of
36:02Jesus Christ for the remission of your
36:05sins. Y'all, if you haven't been
36:08baptized, we've got a baptismal tank.
36:10We're already going to baptize somebody
36:11today. You might as well join the crowd.
36:14Last Sunday, we baptized five right
36:16here. Oh, what a joyous day it was. What
36:19is it all about? It's about take the
36:22name of Jesus with you. The only way you
36:25can get his name on you is by baptism.
36:29The Bible said, "As many as have been
36:31baptized into Christ have put on
36:35Christ." Not as many as spoken his name.
36:38There's so many people say, "All you got
36:39to do is confess with your mouth and
36:40believe in your heart." I know the Roman
36:42road. Romans 10. It's an amazing verse.
36:44But it wasn't written to sinners. It was
36:46written to the church at Rome. If it was
36:50written to the sinners in Rome, then we
36:52could use that as a plan of salvation.
36:54It wasn't written to the sinners. It was
36:56written to people that have already been
36:57baptized in Jesus' name. They were
36:59already filled with the Holy Ghost,
37:00speaking in other tongues. Go read it.
37:02Please don't take my word for it. My
37:05word does only have the authority that
37:07David Elms has. And it's just a little
37:09bit. It's not an awful lot. But when you
37:11say you're standing on the name of Jesus
37:14Christ, you're standing on a truth that
37:17is unbendable, unbreakable. Sister Elms
37:19and musicians, come imagine if you went
37:21to the doctor and the doctor found out
37:24that you had an ailment and in your
37:26ailment, he wrote down a prescription
37:28for you and said, "Oh, here's what
37:30you're going to do. This medicine is
37:32going to help you very much. It's going
37:35to help you. I got a new inspiration for
37:37those of you in the first service. It's
37:38going to be new inspiration here. Uh so
37:42I'm going to write you down a
37:43prescription. If you'll take this uh and
37:47fill it, then this medicine will help
37:50you. And you go home and you say, "Wow,
37:55there's my prescription."
38:06>> Getting better right now.
38:11Don't Don't laugh at me. It's just wood.
38:13I ate wood all the time as a kid.
38:17>> Listen, the best tasting thing in my
38:19kindergarten class was Elmer's glue.
38:29>> I got some people in the house that
38:30understand with this preacher right now.
38:34Am I getting better?
38:37Did I Did I take the prescription?
38:41>> I literally kept the word, didn't I?
38:44>> But I didn't do what was prescribed.
38:48When Peter stood with the 11 on that day
38:51and they said he had just preached,
38:53those that can be saved must be saved by
38:56calling on the name of the Lord. That's
38:58not just in Romans. That's in Acts the 2
39:01chapter. I've literally heard people
39:03say, "Well, that's all you got to do
39:05because it's in Acts two, too." You guys
39:07forget it's in Acts two. Yeah, it's in
39:08Acts two, but you got to remember they
39:10ask again. They said, "Okay, then we're
39:12pricked in our hearts, which means we're
39:13convicted. We want to make a change.
39:15Whatever it takes to be saved, please
39:17let us be saved. What must we do?" And
39:20that's when Peter said, "Repent, every
39:22one of you,
39:23>> yes. and be baptized in the name of
39:26Jesus Christ for the remission,
39:31the freedom, the breaking free, the
39:35sending away of your sins. You know what
39:37happens when God forgives you by
39:39remission of your sins? He can't
39:41remember it. When you ask him to forgive
39:42you of your sins, he forgives you of
39:45your sins. But forgiveness is different
39:47than remission. Forgiveness is like me
39:49and my kids spilling the milk on that
39:51freshly steamed floor. I don't know why
39:55my grandkids get by with it easier than
39:57my kids did. Freshly steamed floor and
40:00we could say, "Oh, baby, you're
40:02forgiven." They're forgiven, but the
40:04milk's still there. Remission is when
40:07you go and you clean the milk up and
40:10spray it down and then you get that
40:12crazy ignorant steamer and you steam it
40:14to where there's no evidence that there
40:16was anything there. Some of you when you
40:19pray, you remind the Lord of things that
40:22you did in your past. And I want to tell
40:25you what the Lord does when you do that
40:28and you've been baptized in his name and
40:30your forgiveness. He forgiven. He looks
40:33at you and says,
40:36"I don't remember.
40:38>> Thank you, Jesus."
40:40>> You're saying, "What?
40:44>> I can't see it like that."
40:47>> Thank you, Jesus.
40:51>> Now, now to some people, I'm closing.
40:54I'm closing. To some people, this is
40:57just a preacher up here trying to
40:59promote baptism. to some people. I'm
41:03just up here trying to push new religion
41:06on a modern day generation that isn't
41:08very religious. They're more spiritual
41:10than religious. You're not going to get
41:12people to be religious, but they will
41:13get spiritual. I'm not doing any of
41:16those [music] things. I want you to obey
41:20this
41:23this book
41:25that he said I go away to prepare a
41:27place for you
41:29that there
41:32I will be with you and you can be with
41:34me.
41:36It's a house. Actually, it's a city.
41:39Four square means a square city. 12
41:42foundations. 1500 miles square. Metaphor
41:46or not, it's just imagine this. There's
41:48there's [music] like hundreds of miles
41:50between every foundation. Uh so high
41:53there's a whole atmosphere between every
41:55foundation. And in this city, he said
41:58that the light of the city will be the
42:01lamb.
42:04If you're old enough, you remember us
42:06singing songs like, "In that city where
42:08the lamb is the light, in that city
42:11where there cometh no night, I've got a
42:13mansion over there and it's free from
42:16toil and care. I am going.
42:20Are you?
42:24Are you? Oh, you think you are because
42:26you said you are?
42:30On whose authority have you built your
42:33decision
42:35because I'll tell you when we're going
42:36to find out, not today.
42:40He said, "Behold, I come quickly.
42:44My people I will take with me. I know
42:47them that are mine,
42:49and I'm going to separate them as sheep
42:51from goats.
42:53I'm going to call them up and the angels
42:56are going to go into the church houses
42:59and angels. I can't separate sheep from
43:01goats.
43:03That's not the church's task. But Jesus
43:07said that the angels are going to go
43:10through every church. And there are some
43:12people who are goats. I hope none are
43:15here right now. But it's possible.
43:18It's possible there are people that are
43:20selfled. That's a goat.
43:25The sheep, he said, know my voice. They
43:28answer. They follow me. My sheep follow.
43:35Some people think that church work is
43:37ranching. And if the pastor doesn't get
43:40a whip and a shocking device, they're
43:43not going to move. Used to when I went,
43:46all my grandkids are cowboys today. I
43:48don't know if you noticed. They all have
43:49on cowboy boots. It slayed me when I
43:51walked through the door. I mean, it it's
43:53I was slain. I I can't take all these
43:56cowboy shirts. I used to go to the rodeo
43:59or the the cow auction in Amarillo,
44:01Texas, and I'm telling you, it was so
44:03awesome watching them run the sail
44:05through. And that great auctioneer,
44:13I mean, it's music to my ears.
44:21They would separate them. They would
44:23bring a big bull through and get off.
44:26Man, those cowboys get up and they those
44:28whips.
44:30They never even had to hit the bull.
44:33They just could snap that thing at
44:35precise moments, never even hitting the
44:37bull. Then they advanced to where now
44:39they've got these poles that have shock,
44:41little shocks on the end. So now if the
44:43bull gets too close, they just hit it
44:44with the shock. I haven't been in a long
44:46time. It might be some laser by now, but
44:51they think they got to be pastored by a
44:54pastor who can pop the whip. And if the
44:57pastor doesn't pop the whip very much,
45:00then they don't think that he's much of
45:02a pastor. Except you don't know your
45:04Bible, do you? Because the church is a
45:08sheepfold.
45:10And the shepherd leads by a song. He
45:13doesn't lead by a whip. The shepherd
45:15sings the song of the lamb and the
45:18sheep, they say, "Oh, I want to hear
45:20that. Sing that song to me. I want the
45:24Lord in my life. I want the Lord over
45:27me." If you really believed there was a
45:29hell, if you really believed it, and if
45:32you believed that you would burn there
45:33forever, if you really believed it, I
45:36wouldn't have a hard time getting you to
45:38come to this altar today. No, not at
45:40all. But some of you are measuring
45:43whether or not you want to respond to
45:44the word. [music] You're not sure it's
45:46gotten to the level whether or not you
45:48need surrender to that. That's okay. I'm
45:50used to you. It's not going to bother me
45:52except a little bit. But I want to tell
45:55you in the Holy Ghost, there's going to
45:57be a day. This will be my last sermon.
46:00Maybe today,
46:03maybe not today.
46:06I don't know.
46:09But I don't want to go to heaven and say
46:12it was the last word they heard.
46:14>> Where are they at? And to stand looking
46:18for the flock God entrusted me to sing
46:21to.
46:22That's the reason I sing so much. You
46:24know, you're supposed to follow the
46:25song.
46:27No,
46:29it's all about a love that burns in your
46:31heart. And most of you have it. You
46:35wouldn't be here if you didn't. You
46:37wouldn't have walked through those doors
46:39if you didn't hear a song.
46:42I want something different than the the
46:45hatefilled culture that I've been in.
46:48I'm tired of a generation that's filled
46:50with just judge, judge, judge, judge,
46:52judge. I'm always always falling short.
46:55Is there anybody who would grab me where
46:58I'm at and lift me up?
47:04Songwriter said it like this. Standing
47:06somewhere
47:08in the shadows, [singing]
47:12you'll find
47:14Jesus.
47:19He's the only one
47:23who cares
47:25and understands.
47:28[singing]
47:33standing somewhere
47:37in the shadows.
47:40You will find
47:43him
47:47and you'll [singing]
47:48know him by the nail prints in
47:55his hand. Shall we stand all over this
