0:11church for the mechanical bull I I hope
0:12you know that but no and the pickle ball
0:15will be fun a lot of good Fellowship
0:17anyway are you ready to word read the
0:19word of the Lord
0:22ninth chapter of the first book to the
0:25church at Corinth the 24th
0:29verse know ye not that they which run in
0:33a race run
0:37all but one receiveth the prize so run
0:41that ye may
0:43obtain and every man that striveth for
0:45the Mastery is temperate in all things
0:49now they do it to obtain
0:51a corruptible Crown but we do it for an
0:56Incorruptible Crown therefore so run not

1:40subjection lest this is my

1:47means when I have preached to others I
1:50myself self should be a Cast
1:56Away Heavenly Father we are not taking
1:59for granted the hearts and the attention
2:01spans of your people these are a very
2:04intelligent group that have pushed away
2:06business ownerships clientele meetings
2:09they pushed back all kinds of things
2:12that they could have both enhancements
2:13athletically and in business to be in
2:16this house we don't take that for
2:19granted nor are we going to waste those
2:20moments
2:21therefore in the Holy Ghost let this
2:24preparation be something that is
2:26empowering to them and we give you the
2:29praise for it all in Jesus name amen my
2:33subject today is salvaged
2:36shipwrecks salvaged shipwrecks you may
2:39be seated in Jesus name
2:55in the White House in the Oval Office
2:57serves our present president and has the
3:01last eight
3:03presidents a desk known as the Resolute
3:09desk it was taken out of the Oval Office
3:13for a couple of weeks earlier this year
3:17to be
3:19refurbished it was
3:21raised by President Ronald Reagan who
3:25was six about six foot one he was a
3:27little tall and so they added some feet
3:31if you will to the Resolute desk to
3:33raise the height of it it was made
3:36famous by President John F Kennedy in
3:40that it's a desk that's really a two-way
3:43desk that means it has a place for place
3:46of your feet on both sides but on one
3:49side there is a door
3:51and little
3:53John who would come in with his dad
3:56running the country his dad was one of
4:00our only presidents that ever had small
4:03children when they were elected to
4:06office so it made John F Kennedy always
4:08have a very special place in the heart
4:10of I think the entire
4:12nation because he showed a side of
4:17fatherhood that was striking it's
4:21that that we're going to have little
4:23small children in the Oval Office that
4:26bothers some of the population whenever
4:29they see children in the Oval Office
4:32they feel like maybe they shouldn't be
4:34in there and keep the kids out is this a
4:37place for kids that kind of feeling
4:39doesn't surprise me because it was very
4:41much around
4:43Jesus because they didn't think that
4:45Jesus ought to let the little children
4:47come around and so there were those
4:50around him
4:51who said uh don't you know we're dealing
4:53with big stuff
4:56here um this pushes protocol and we got
4:59to get it adjusted so would you please
5:03take the kids away and when they started
5:07shushing and
5:08hushing that's when Jesus established a
5:12precedent that will be in every great
5:15church and unfortunately the word that
5:18he chooses he choos
5:21chooses he chooses it because he has an
5:24ultimate wisdom that is the word
5:27suffer for some people to have the
5:30children close by it rubs against the
5:33fur if I could say it like that of their
5:36own existence they prefer Comforts of
5:39maturity they prefer the grown spaces
5:42where the places of children are pushed
5:44away and hidden if we're going to have
5:46church get the kids
5:49out well as a church there are some
5:52non-negotiables that we're going to have
5:54here at the Cathedral of Pentecost and
5:56that is one thing we will celebrate the
5:57babies we're going to celebrate the
5:59children and yes children are going to
6:01be like children but as adults we're not
6:03going to be shocked when the
6:06children act like
6:09children H because the kids are going to
6:11be kids and I want this to be a safe
6:13place that our babies run and play and
6:16have fun as long as the adults are being
6:19adults we want the children to be
6:22children but this was part of that story
6:26uh of this desk and so the Resolute desk
6:29has been almost a signature piece in the
6:32Oval Office so it made news when the
6:35present president had it taken out for
6:38its refurbishment but many people don't
6:40know the story behind that disc why is
6:43it the Resolute desk well the story
6:47started many many years ago when sir
6:51Edward beler sent five ships to find a
6:55lost man that had been commissioned by
6:57England to do an expedition in the north
7:01and in that process the Ice Flow came
7:04and froze them in and because sir Edward
7:09Belcher decided we're going to lose that
7:11ship he
7:13left the Resolute his master's Majesty's
7:18service HMS
7:21Resolute left it and said well we got to
7:24be saved and after two years living in
7:26it the men in it didn't want to leave it
7:28the captain of that ship didn't want to
7:30leave it and ultimately it turned around
7:32for sir beler to almost be uh held in
7:38contempt by the nation of England
7:42because years after not a lot longer but
7:46a few years afterwards a captain from
7:49the United States found found this Ghost
7:52Ship perfectly intact
7:56floating and the United States
7:58government has him to tow it back so he
8:01brought it back to America America put
8:03in a $440,000 refurbishment of this ship
8:08and sent it back to England as a gift
8:11well it served England for a little
8:12while and then when it was decommission
8:15the Queen Victoria decided out of a
8:20sense of appreciation for a ship that
8:23had served her nation and stayed
8:26together but be had been abandoned since
8:29it was returned she would make a desk
8:32out of that ship's Timbers and so the
8:35Resolute desk is the remains of a ship
8:39that had served England very well in
8:42tumultuous Waters in times and so that's
8:46how at the front plate of the Resolute
8:48desk there is the signature that this
8:50was was a ship at Sea that held us
8:53strong and got us through it's an an
8:57interesting story but the story of
8:59shipping is one that permeates the
9:01entirety of the the modern world
9:04essentially even though it's not in our
9:06narrative we don't think very much about
9:08shipping uh but the very first
9:10Department of your government the United
9:12States the very first Department was the
9:15Department of Treasury and you think
9:17treasury what does that have to do with
9:19the number one person purpose the
9:21treasury was ever put together was to
9:23put together the funds to fund
9:29lighthouses ligh houses were the need
9:32that was so great each colony had put up
9:35at least one Lighthouse along the shore
9:38but the cries of sailors in storms had
9:40filled the sky and so those who lived
9:44along the shore had perfor had put
9:46together communities of safety and
9:49groupings of people that any time a
9:51storm appeared along the northeast and
9:54the shipping lanes they would go and
9:57have people that would sit out in the
9:59weather watching and lighting fires to
10:01keep ship ships ships from uh being uh
10:06torn up on the shore we know about Sandy
10:10Hook but our story of Sandy Hook is a
10:14lot different than the real story of
10:17Sandy Hook Sandy Hook is something we've
10:21heard about about a guy shooting up a
10:23school or other things that have
10:25happened in that place of a criminal
10:27sort but Sandy Hook was most known
10:31because it's an outer point in New
10:33Jersey it stands at the entrance of the
10:35New York Harbor and every time a storm
10:38happened those citizens of Sandy Hook
10:42would go out and be Guardians of the New
10:44York Harbor to make sure that the ship's
10:46trying to find Safe Haven in the midst
10:49of a storm and it was on January the
10:5212th that one of the worst storms in the
10:54history of Sandy Hook ever occurred and
10:57they heard Cries From the story from the
11:00uh the Sea Side and they went out there
11:04had been a new invention they somebody
11:06had come up with the idea of a boat that
11:09could be safe in a storm and they had
11:11designed it uniquely they took a cannon
11:13they saw a ship out there that was uh in
11:17very much Peril in the waters and so it
11:20was caught on the shore it had been
11:22driven off the coast and the storm was
11:24beating a nor Easter in the middle of
11:27January up there is a terror to be
11:29caught in someone took a cannon and
11:31fashioned a rope to it and shot it over
11:34the bow of that boat and the Rope was
11:36fastened and they tightened it down and
11:39they took this new invention of a
11:41seagoing what they called a safe boat
11:45and they tied it and they went back and
11:47forth in eight trips they enter left
11:50took 201 Souls off that boat and
11:53everybody was saved on that ship except
11:56for one who was involved in trying to
11:59secure the
12:00line and it was the
12:02beginning of safe boats and now you will
12:05not take a cruise without at the
12:07beginning of the cruise going and
12:08finding out where your mustard station
12:10is and the safe boat that you're
12:12supposed to get on because that was the
12:15first time they found a real way to save
12:18people getting them to shore when the at
12:21Peril at Sea why do I tell you all these
12:24things well I tell you that because in
12:27our scripture Paul is talking and he
12:30uses a couple different metaphors he
12:33uses running a race he uses fighting a
12:35fight and there's a mixture of metaphors
12:38so I have often heard people when
12:40they're talking about God use metaphors
12:43and there are times people mix metaphor
12:46so much that it loses its context and I
12:50like to call it the madness of metaphors
12:54well if you're trying to live for God in
12:56an accurate and authentic way you can't
12:59just grab whatever metaphor you want to
13:02fit your situation to get it your way
13:05when Paul uses these metaphors we've got
13:08to stay in the context of the metaphor
13:11so he talks about winning a race and he
13:13said we all win run that we might obtain
13:17it's a great race to run and then he
13:20also talks about how we fight so
13:23sometimes we're running and thank God
13:26for the days we're running I love the
13:28verse of scripture they that wait upon
13:30the Lord shall do what I've often
13:33thought that that that is a verse that
13:34we need to understand about why the
13:36devil is going to be so shriveled up
13:38when we see him on that last day the
13:40Bible tells us that when we finally see
13:42him we're going to look at him and say
13:44is that who
13:49torment oh when you start feeling like
13:51you're losing you need to stop and
13:53realize he's smaller than you think he
13:55is that when you finally do see him
13:58you're going to realize he's not this
14:00big bad horn Fork tail monster that has
14:04the power to destroy everything the
14:06Bible said in that last days when we
14:08finally see him we're going to be in awe
14:10that was who tormented the Nations why
14:14did we let him do
14:16that and so I think that that scripture
14:19they that wait upon the lord it's not
14:22just sitting doing nothing I think it
14:24has a tone of of waiting like a waiter
14:27of putting a napkin over your arm and
14:29saying Lord what can I do for you how
14:31can I wait on you do you need anything
14:33I'm here for you do you want some praise
14:35do you appreciate some beloving a broken
14:38person are how do you want me to serve
14:40you they that wait upon the Lord
14:43shall what a word renew it was new now
14:47it's renewed it was strong now it's made
14:50strong again how do you do that wait
14:53upon the Lord they that wait upon the
14:55Lord shall renew their strength they
14:57shall Mount up with wings as eagles they
15:00shall run and not grow weary they shall
15:03walk and not faint to all my sermon
15:06builders in the room you generally start
15:09with the little thing and work to the
15:12big you generally start small and go to
15:16large but if you notice the progression
15:19in this verse it doesn't start at small
15:21and go big it starts
15:24flying then
15:27running then
15:29walking if I'm riding for my own wisdom
15:32on the way to serve God I'm going to
15:34start they that
15:35walk do this but you live with them a
15:38little while longer and you're going to
15:40start
15:40running and then if you run enough guess
15:43where you're headed flying flying but my
15:48my my point is is that sometimes we got
15:50to recognize that the process of living
15:52for God you start
15:54flying you will be flying
15:57again but sometimes you won't be flying
16:00you're just down on the ground
16:02running but there's sometimes you're not
16:05flying nor
16:07running you're just
16:09walking but if all you're doing is
16:12walking you're still pleasing
16:15God just because I'm walking doesn't
16:18mean I won't be soaring soon
16:21but I'm not going to let discouragement
16:23overwhelm me when I'm just walking
16:25because I'm still moving
16:29forward so he uses the metaphor of of
16:32race then he uses the metaphor of
16:34fighting and I love this because so
16:37often he speaks what I feel he said I be
16:42I I fight not as one that beateth the
16:45air call that Shadow Boxing you're
16:48swinging but you're not hitting anything
16:50anything and much of living for God
16:53feels like that you make a an attempt to
16:56win a soul you teach a Bible study
16:59boom and uh they live for God and then
17:02they don't or you try to reach your
17:05neighbor and you're saying okay Lord is
17:07this the one that I'm going to reach
17:09boom they come to a few Services then
17:12they
17:13don't if you ever land a blow and you
17:16will you will land a blow but you cannot
17:19quit quit of because of the times that
17:22you feel
17:23like I'm just missing I'm swinging but
17:27I'm not hitting anything it is not up to
17:30me to land the blows it is up to me to
17:34keep swinging the Bible said that he
17:37will add to the church the Lord adds to
17:40the church daily such as should be saved
17:42I think everybody ought to be Sav but
17:44you're not going to get me to stop
17:47swinging
17:50you know many times I've in teaching
17:52leadership class and uh uh you you teach
17:54people never give the response to what
17:57you're feeling at that day go into your
18:00role of teaching with all and this is
18:03maybe a bad met metaphor but I'm going
18:05to use it with both guns
18:08blazing I don't know that you can do
18:10that anymore that's a cowboy term and
18:12you're
18:15whatever uh but you you understand the
18:18spirit of what I'm saying everything you
18:21do whatsoever your hands find to do do
18:23it with what all your might and so Paul
18:28works with both the race and then he
18:30works with the fight but then the last
18:33metaphor is the one that I want to set
18:35before you for just a few moments
18:36tonight and that is lest when I have
18:40preached to
18:41others I myself should become a cast
18:46away he brings the Peril of Rogue Waters
18:50and an untamed and unpredictable ocean
18:53into the picture and the scripture
18:56carries the subject of water through it
18:58from Jonah who was thrown oversea
19:00because of sin at to Jesus who was in
19:03the boat and walked on the water to the
19:06boat Peter walked to the water or he was
19:09asleep in the middle of a storm and he
19:11calmed the water there's this Narrative
19:13of Storms and solutions to storms in the
19:17scripture but at the end of the day Paul
19:20Paul is saying I want you to understand
19:22this Shipwrecked story is very real and
19:26it's not just real for me it's real for
19:29every
19:30person who ever
19:34said I'm gonna serve
19:37God I I've got so many in this church
19:40that I can't tell you how much I love
19:42you but I love your story even more than
19:44I love you I don't know maybe that's
19:46right wrong but I love your story
19:48because in this house are are
19:52people that hell thought it had
20:00Shipwrecked if I told you their stories
20:04of how Hell showed up and was a silent
20:08Sinister Force underneath the water of
20:12their life and they looked to be
20:17Shipwrecked
20:21but God said
20:22no just because they looked finished
20:26they're not finished just because it
20:29looks like they've had the worst blow
20:32against them they're a
20:34salvaged shipwreck because even though
20:38cast away is possible it's never reality
20:42until you
20:44quit and the difference between the
20:46righteous and the unrighteous is that
20:49adjustment or shall I say it more
20:51properly a righteous man falleth seven
20:56times riseth up
20:59again Paul is very quick to notice that
21:04I'm careful when I walk lest I become
21:09when I have preached to others when I
21:12have loved others when I have sung to
21:14others when I've talked to others when
21:17I've sat un pewes and welcomed others
21:19and when I've gone in the neighborhoods
21:21and spoken truth to others after all of
21:24that lest I
21:27become Cast Away he speaks about a root
21:31of bitterness that we should all watch
21:33out for lest any root of bitterness
21:37enter into you whereby many be defiled
21:42Paul describes this spiritual
21:44catastrophe and the word Cast Away that
21:47he translates essentially it's a na term
21:50but it means disqualified it means
21:53rejected it means unapproved the term is
21:56drawn from the testing of medals or the
21:59proving of athletes but it has a
22:02seagoing tone to it that's the reason
22:05why Castaway was used in other words we
22:08were at Sea we were on the open sea but
22:11something failed until we were unfit for
22:15the prize this nautical Echo uh speaks
22:19of being abandoned in the waves Paul is
22:23very acquainted with nautical terms
22:25everybody in that day was I mean I've
22:28got some folks who won't go on a cruise
22:30you know what I mean you don't you're a
22:31land
22:33lover why get on the boat when I can be
22:36on
22:37land I'm a little bit different I love
22:40the water thank God I've never been
22:43seasick to God be the glory I'm very
22:45humble about it because I've watched
22:47people who get seasick
22:52and uh I haven't been thank the Lord uh
22:56and I appreciate that um but you know I
23:00don't mind the sea there's something
23:01drawing and appealing and amazing about
23:04getting out on the water and realizing
23:07how really little you are in the whole
23:09spectrum of life and but Paul he knew
23:13what he was talking about when he was
23:14talking about these nautical terms
23:16because he traveled by ship the Bible
23:18says that three times he was
23:21Shipwrecked listen if I'm Shipwrecked
23:24one time that's not for
23:27me three times he's Shipwrecked uh once
23:31he the Bible said he once he was a drift
23:34a night and a day in the Deep shark
23:40dog anybody know about shark
23:42dog no is it is it that what he's
23:47called no there's a dog that's a shark
23:50Austin what is it called Shark dog see
23:52I've got a high very high graduate level
23:57education Gabby are you with me girl oh
24:00she understands
24:02I I knew she was a good
24:07lxm so here's
24:10Paul says he uses this Greek Castaway
24:14but the key about the Castaway is it's
24:16less about the sea and it's more about
24:19the arena Ena the wrestler's
24:21disqualified the coin is rejected as a
24:24counterfeit it's got a curious twist to
24:28it a man who survived literal wrecks he
24:32has floated a night and a day in the
24:35Deep he fears a spiritual wreck
24:40more than a literal
24:43wreck and that's the goal of living for
24:46God is realizing that what you do when
24:49when you praise God When you pray when
24:52you greet one another when you walk out
24:54into this parking lot tonight and you
24:56say hello and goodbye to the people you
24:58love and I love when I drive away and
25:01some of you are clustered around your
25:02car and I'm already gone man it's like
25:05they're still having a great time and
25:07I'm about to get my day off
25:10tomorrow and so all of this stuff boils
25:13up and it's part of the Kingdom but You'
25:16got to understand all of this matters in
25:20a spiritual way you're not building
25:23connections for time you are building
25:27communions for eternity and we are know
25:31ye not that one day you're going to
25:33judge
25:34Angels you don't even know how to
25:36comprehend that nor do I but I know it's
25:40in there that means I've got to Grapple
25:43with what's in the scripture No Other
25:45epistle uses the word Castaway it's
25:47found no no other Place elsewhere he
25:51warns of the Shipwreck of Faith he warns
25:53Timothy about that but it's a different
25:55Greek word this is a distinct word a
25:58personal piercing fear of
26:00disqualification after life of service
26:03after preaching to others after
26:05ascending to the heights of
26:07accomplishment a man who survived
26:09literal wrecks his has this one Beacon
26:13of warning that he continually sees as
26:16he traverses the calling of his days and
26:20that is every once in a while you need
26:22to stop and say Where am I in proximity
26:26to the Shipwreck how close am I to
26:29shipwreck how far am I from shipwreck
26:32don't just assume that because you're
26:35making good progress in your world that
26:37there's not a Sinister under the surface
26:41force that will work to destroy you and
26:45that's what Paul was saying I need the
26:47Church of this South Florida region to
26:50realize something when you think you've
26:52got things figured out when the bank
26:54accounts seem to be doing well when
26:56you're swelling with success in other
26:58aspects I pray that you'll never forget
27:01that you need to have some GPS
27:04understanding about where am I in
27:06proximity to being a Castaway where am I
27:10when I'm looking at the potentialities
27:13of a Shipwrecked existence I need to
27:16know that's the reason when you pray you
27:18need to pray pass just your to-do
27:22list it's the reason when we had that
27:2424hour praise session there's something
27:29Dynamic about getting in the presence of
27:31God and just pressing into praise until
27:34you're overwhelmed that's the reason
27:35when you come and you accept a 30 minute
27:38reading session and we're reading
27:40through the Bible that's the reason why
27:42you need to have a hanky handkerchief
27:44there or a Kleenex close by because
27:46you'll just read you think you're just
27:48reading English you'll think you're just
27:49reading the words then all of a sudden
27:51you get in the story and you think okay
27:53this is a pretty neat story o I didn't
27:54know it turned like that and what how's
27:56that going then all of a sudden out of
27:58nowhere the Holy Ghost overwhelms you
28:00and tears flow and you realize it wasn't
28:03just words and it was more than just a
28:05story God was waiting for me right there
28:08to keep me from being a Cast
28:14Away The Voyage of life is on a perilous
28:18sea sister Realms come every soul must
28:22Captain their own vessel and I'm telling
28:27you as a
28:29dad you all know how desperate a parent
28:33wants to Captain their child's vessel I
28:37want so badly for them to escape the shs
28:41and the reefs and the dangers that will
28:45Beall them but no matter what I do I
28:49will will not stop them from having that
28:52moment of Cast Away ever presentent in
28:55fact there are times as a parent now I
28:58feel like I'm doing a parents conference
29:00right now that your child is going to be
29:02a drift at sea for a night and a
29:06day and you wish you could throw them a
29:10lifeline and even though you're present
29:13even though you're there even though
29:15you're loving them God will separate you
29:19from throwing them a line that they'll
29:23receive now that's a vulnerable place to
29:26be as a parent oh lord I can't tell you
29:31how vulnerable it is when you know your
29:34child is a drift and they're at Sea and
29:37all you can do is stand there in love
29:41I've seen some that scold their kids
29:42when they get to that place well you you
29:45got it you made it happen it's on you
29:47please don't do that
29:50please please show Mercy please show
29:52love please show Grace when they're in
29:55those moments it probably is their fault
29:57but if you stop for a moment and look
30:00back down your life you should be
30:03too but had it not been for the good
30:06grace of our God the grace of his
30:10kingdom he pulled us back in and when we
30:13were a drift at Sea he was watching us
30:16even when we were a night and a day at
30:18sea
30:20we have to think in terms of how to make
30:22it to the end not are we always walking
30:25on
30:27water would it nice be be nice to walk
30:29on
30:31water I honestly don't try it much
30:33anymore but I may do it just for fun for
30:35my
30:36grandchildren try to walk on water but I
30:39used to try it quite a bit I'd walk
30:44out and so this lest any root of
30:47bitterness where does it come from where
30:49does the root come from the Down
30:53Under nobody takes you and shows you
30:56come see the roots of my
31:00tree it's hidden so you know the things
31:03that above ground ought to be
31:05presentable but if you're not a guardian
31:08of your system of what's down under when
31:11I say guarden Guardian it will sneak up
31:14on you you might even be one or two
31:17hours in that condition before the Holy
