Summary

Pastor Elms explores the 'second chapter' of David's life to show that while seasoned believers may grow weary from recurring battles, God protects His promises by raising up a new generation to fight alongside them.

Key points
  • •Past victories do not guarantee freedom from future battles; giants often have 'kinfolk' (new trials) that arise even after a major win.
  • •Weariness is a natural part of a long-term walk with God, but exhaustion does not mean your calling or the cause has ended.
  • •God's strategy for a weary leader or saint is often not more personal power, but more people (a new generation) sent to stand in the gap.
  • •The most productive years of service can happen after others presume you are finished, as seen in David's later years of preparing for the Temple.

Identify an 'again' in your life-a recurring struggle or bill-and instead of succumbing to exhaustion, invite a trusted brother or sister in Christ to 'hold up your hands' in prayer this week.

Reflection questions
  1. Which 'giant' from your past seems to be resurfacing in a new form today?
  2. In what areas of your spiritual life do you feel you have 'waxed faint' or become exhausted by the 'agains' of life?
  3. Who are the 'Abishais' in your life that God has sent to help you, and are you willing to let them fight alongside you?
  4. If you are a younger believer, how can you proactively step in to support the seasoned 'David' figures in your community?

0:00of the Lord. In 1992, my wife and I came to South
0:01Florida, having never desired to be a citizen of South Florida or
0:07Florida at all. I never grew up wanting to be here. And
0:13when I evangelized, I never even sought to preach for churches in
0:19Florida. It wasn't a destination that I was longing to be part
0:25of. But God, and the story is multiple, but I'll just...
0:32Suffice to say, God placed us here. We pulled up, pulling
0:37behind us everything we owned in a five by eight U-Haul
0:43single axle trailer. And we slept at Sister Leonard's house. There,
0:48on our first Sunday, we had ten in church. Brother Greg
0:54Leonard was the church, shall we give him the title, chief
0:59financial officer. We'll give him that title. He didn't
1:05manage a lot of money. In fact, there was no money for a
1:11preacher. There was no money for a pastor. There was barely money for
1:17a lease. I was young. I was 25 years young and I didn't
1:22really know what totally to be afraid of. So when I came, it
1:28was as if this David was taking on a Goliath, a young man
1:34with a from God sent to a hard place. I had been
1:39warned by great ministers, pastors who had attempted to build a
1:45church in South Florida, that this was a place where you
1:50could go and get devoured by the demons that called this
1:56place, that there were sinister spirits and shipped in spirits and
2:02global sized spirits that called South Florida haunted. But my
2:07wife and I came and we did so with understanding that there was a
2:13cause and the understanding that we were called to And while many
2:19churches get swallowed up with the frustration of the challenges of being in
2:25South Florida, God did what God does. And to this day, the church
2:31has been brought to this level, having almost 10 acres here in South
2:36Florida and this facility, our school. And we have been able to be
2:42a part, as Sister McFarland mentioned, spawning or being a part
2:48of birthing four congregations in our brief 36 years of being the leader of
2:54this church. Everything God has done from the people that the Lord has helped
3:00us to impact to the property that we have been able to acquire since
3:06my youthful endeavor is a monument to the fact that the battle is the
3:12Lord's. In our texts, we read about David. We all know
3:18that David killed Goliath. It's one of the great stories that is published around the
3:24world. Movies have been made about it. In fact, it is a metaphor that you
3:29don't have to be a Bible reader or even someone who believes in God to
3:35utilize the metaphor of that is a Goliath and this is a David. Everyone
3:41speaks of this story. And yet what we rarely understand is that there
3:47is a second chapter of David and giants in our Bible. It is
3:52not talked about in the Sunday school stories. It has yet to make
3:58a Hollywood movie. It hasn't even found a text for many preachers in
4:04this hour. It's rarely mentioned, but it is found in this text.
4:09When we get readers for the Bible reading, I always rejoice trying to
4:15give them a text that will be somewhat reasonable to read. But when
4:21I settled that this text would be the text that they would read,
4:26I had great joy in seeing who the readers would be because I
4:32knew when they bought into these names, it would be verbal judo to
4:38say these words. And yet they all proved that they can do yoga.
4:43And so it was a wonderful, wonderful joy watching them pronounce the names
4:49of these people of that day. Verse 15 of our text in 2
4:55Samuel, the 21st chapter. Tells us moreover and if you have your Bibles
5:00you can follow along in your Bible because I'm going to reference these scriptures a
5:06few times But if not, you can watch this presentation system moreover the Philistines had
5:12yet war everybody say again and Again with Israel and David
5:18went down and his servants with him and fought
5:24against the Philistines and David waxed faint. Same enemy
5:29seasoned leader. This is not David with his slingshot.
5:35This is not David as a warrior leader in
5:40the cave of Mephila. This is not David, young
5:46crowned king, dancing before the ark of God as it
5:52is brought from Shiloh to Jerusalem. This is a different
5:57David. Same David, seasoned David. Same call, same purpose, same
6:03calling. But he was not the same in strength. The
6:09Bible says a stunning thing about him. Many readers or theologians
6:15say that David was around 60 years old when this scripture
6:21is written. And at 60, when this giant came along, this
6:26giant assumed that David was dead. I can't believe the Bible
6:32says out loud about David that he waxed faint. The
6:38giant killer, the man who had slain Goliath, the sweet singer
6:43of Israel, is too tired to sing. The New Living Translation
6:49says that David became weak and exhausted. You're going to find
6:54yourself in this sermon today. David became weak and exhausted. The
7:00ESV version says David grew weary. David never lost his spirit
7:05to fight. He never lost the calling to fight. He never lost
7:11the cause to fight. He was, uh, but halfway through the fight, exhaustion
7:17hits him and he was worn down. You know, it wore him down
7:23in your Bible. It's interesting. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it.
7:29There's one little word in the text that says again, verse 15 says
7:35there was war again. Verse 18 says again, verse 19
7:41says again, a battle in gob verse 20 says
7:46yet a battle in gap again and again and
7:52again, yet even again, I have shepherded people in
7:57these years that found times of exhaustion and his
8:03times of weariness and times of getting tired.
8:09I can tell you in living for God, it's the agains that can get you.
8:14When you first come to the Lord, you have a fire to fight. You have
8:19the energy of the first calling you have what the scripture calls that
8:25first love it is that urgency that diligence that Understanding that taste in
8:31your mouth of what the world promised you and what the world did
8:37not deliver and that taste Drives you to say I'm not going back
8:43I will fight for it. And if I have to die fighting for it, I
8:49will die. But as you live for God longer, you'll find out the agains can
8:54get to you. The same fight with the same folk over the same issue. It
8:59shows up and you thought you prayed way through it and it shows up again.
9:04It shows up and you thought you danced your way out of it. And you
9:10really did. But the same fight with the same kind of folk and the
9:16same situation comes back. One bill gets paid. Lo and behold another one shows
9:22up you were not counting on the prayer as you got out of it with
9:27the first time you say I've already prayed this prayer before I'm here to tell
9:32you it's the agains that can get you I thought I was through but here
9:37I am again I want to tell you a couple things you ought to hold
9:43on to today number one your past victory does not prevent your future battle and
9:48Your past victory does not prevent your future battle. In fact, in
9:54Goliath's own terms, if you know your Bible story, and I've got
10:00a church full of Bible readers, you know that Goliath stood before
10:05David and he made a deal. He said, if I win, you
10:11will serve us. If you win, we will serve you. But those
10:17of you who know your Bible realize that the Philistines never kept
10:23their end of the bargain because we read here again and again
10:29and again and yet another battle in Gath. It's like that song
10:34our singers sing again and again and again and again. You rescue
10:40me out of the mess I was in. I
10:46traded my sorrows for something to sing and I'm dancing
10:52on the grave that I once lived in. I'm dancing.
10:57I'm still dancing, but it's the agains that can get
11:03you because your last battle isn't your last battle. Your
11:08last giant isn't your last giant. Goliath was dead. David
11:14had killed him, but Goliath had some kinfolk. Goliath
11:20had some family and years after Goliath has been taken down,
11:25Goliath's kinfolk are still showing up, carrying the same kind of
11:31discouragement, talking the same kind of trash, telling you you're not
11:37who God said you were, pointing out how little power you've
11:43got. How much the promises of God are not sure again and
11:48again, that voice comes back. Now, let me tell you why I'm preaching
11:54this, because I am just returning from a vacation. And when I left,
12:00you all had thrown me a beautiful birthday party. I don't know. Most
12:05of y'all probably don't remember which birthday party it was because y'all made
12:11this crazy cutout. That's life size of me. And it's my 60th birthday.
12:17And when I walk through the doors of my house, I greet myself every time
12:23I go through the door. And y'all put me in a circus outfit, bless God.
12:28And so I'm happy to greet myself when I walk through the door. But I
12:34remind myself that that was my 60th birthday that y'all took. And when I go
12:40on vacation, I always find some quiet time to assess the past year and look
12:46out towards where I'm headed. This last year, many of you know, my
12:52wife and I took another church and we will leave this service today and
12:58go preach again this evening in Miami. And that church has chosen to change
13:04their name and become Cathedral of Pentecost Miami, which we call it short Cathedral
13:10Miami. But it's our south campus now. And.
13:20And the fact that they asked me to take that church was something that was
13:25interesting to me. And my wife and I, I wouldn't have done it without her,
13:30but we have both said yes to the vision of the South Campus. And those
13:35precious people, those wonderful people that some of you are getting to know, and some
13:40of you have really embraced this with us out of willingness and out of gladness
13:45of heart. And I'm so thankful. And Sister Elms is so grateful for the passion
13:51you come to that place with. But when I went down there, it's a
13:56daunting city. When I came to South Florida, I just came to Broward County.
14:02I literally came to Fort Lauderdale. And sincerely, those of us who live in
14:08Broward County can acquire a prejudice towards Dade. In fact, I used to live in
14:14North Broward. There exists, and some of y'all still live up there, there exists a
14:20prejudice towards South Broward that exists in North Broward. There are folks that live up
14:25in Coral Springs that think you can't go anywhere south of 595 unless you speak
14:31a foreign language. It is a ridiculous thought, but that's the way some
14:37people think up there. And honestly, I lived in that little while until I moved
14:43down here. And then I realized, well, Broward's okay. Well, if you go back
14:49to 2016, the August home team video that is still posted, you can go
14:54see all of our home team videos back to about 2011. They're all posted
15:00on the church's Vimeo account. In the August 2016 Vimeo, I had a dream
15:05and I videoed that home team from the top of a tower in Miami.
15:11And at that dream God gave me on that tower, I saw a singing angel
15:16that I have preached about to this church. And that singing angel was singing, but
15:20he was singing to two places. He was singing both to Broward County, but he
15:25would pivot and sing today and I often wonder what in the world does they'd
15:29have to do with me and what in the world is going on with this
15:34but ten years later after dream you ever had had a dream have you ever
15:38had a dream and it took Years before you found out kind of what it
15:43was meaning This is why I would like to encourage you to write your dreams
15:47down you ought to have a file named dreams and visions because Because that is
15:51where you can find out about the promises of God because many times He won't
15:57let you know what it really means. You may think you know what it means,
16:02but you just wait a while. Five years, it might have a completely different revelation.
16:08It might be ten years later and then all of a sudden, you You realize
16:13what God was saying and so we took that church and in that in that
16:19video that you can go back and see there was a Blue skies hardly any
16:24cloud and I've got this on the video There's a rainbow in almost blue sky
16:30that was coming down to the border right north of the Miami Airport right there
16:35between Broward and Dade it's there and I was I made my video and
16:41it pointed towards South Florida and it was just gorgeous the whole
16:47thing and all of that was going on. What in the world
16:53is this about? Well, when I took this church in South Florida
16:59the first time it was a Goliath to me, but I'm 60
17:05years young now. My wife is not 60 years old now. We're
17:11doing it again. I've got to go into lease negotiations in
17:17December with barely enough money. Trying to find out. My wife and I aren't taking
17:22one penny. We don't give a salary at all from the Miami congregation. And it's
17:28not like I'm padding my pockets, ladies and gentlemen. Why in the world am I
17:34doing this again? What crazy nut am I to go from church to church to
17:40church service? I've had peers around America say, David, what are you doing now?
17:46And sometimes I look in the mirror and say, what are you doing, Elms? I
17:52am not a teenager anymore. I am not like David facing Goliath with a slingshot.
17:58I don't come armed with a slingshot. My slingshot is framed and hanging on the
18:03wall of my Goliath study. I've got a Goliath conquered study over here and
18:09I've got a conquered Goliath of all this acreage plotted right in the dead epicenter
18:15of all of South Florida. What in the world am I doing willing to look
18:21at another ridiculous Goliath there in Miami? The first time I didn't know enough to
18:27be afraid. But this time I know what kind of sort of is coming. But
18:32the takeaway of this is not about Sister Elms and I and our calling
18:38in Miami. The takeaway is that everyone in this building is in this Bible
18:44text. Some of you have been faithful against a situation an awful long time.
18:50You fought your Goliath years ago and now you are stunned that the same
18:55kind of trash talker The same kind of discouraging voice from the
19:01same tone and tenor of hell has shown up and another
19:07Goliath has come. And your first thought was, is there not
19:12a cause? And you got armed up and you were ready
19:18to go fight. And you first thought was, Lord, here I
19:24come. And then the second thought is, Lord, I'm exhausted. But
19:29I have a word for you today. When
19:35David grows weary, God sends people. Verse 16, "And
19:40Ish-babinah, which was of the sons of the giant,
19:46the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels
19:51of brass in weight, he being girded with a
19:57new sword to have slain David." He thought, "I've
20:02got new technology. I've got new approach. I've got
20:08a new piece of equipment. And then he looked at
20:14David in his moment of exhaustion and weariness. And he said in his heart,
20:19he's not the man he used to be. He doesn't have it like he
20:25used to have. He can't go like he used to be able to go.
20:31But I've come to proclaim to you that I'm preaching today. I'm back. I'm
20:37not just back from vacation. I'm back to stand up to every giant.
20:43Every Goliath. Every son of every Goliath. Every brother of every
20:48Goliath. Every nephew of every Goliath. And I want to say
20:54I'm back. And I want to
21:00put inside every one of you children of God. Some of you have lived for
21:05God a lot of years. And you find a weariness that comes over you much
21:09faster than it used to come over you. But I want to put something down
21:14in your spirit that you already got there. You just need to rediscover it. And
21:19that is the understanding that there is a cause. And there is a calling. And
21:24it's not time for you to fold your arms and quit. You may show up
21:29and you've still got the same cause and the same calling, but it might
21:34look like at times you get exhausted fast. I've about put a stopwatch on
21:40how long it takes Sister Pam to walk from her office to the kitchen
21:46because she's worked for me for 25 years. And I promise you, she used
21:52to make that trek faster than she does now. But let me tell you
21:57something about God's good people. They may change with time and seasons. And let
22:03me tell you something about some of you that are young, but because of your
22:08life story, you're an aged soul. You've been through abuses as a child that aged
22:13you from the time you were a young child. You were not the favorite and
22:18everybody knew it. Or somebody might have been the favorite and sometimes being the favorite
22:24child is harder than the one who is not the favorite because the one who
22:29might be the favorite knows that the others are being mistreated and they have a
22:35heart too. I've watched it both ways. Situations grew up around you that made
22:41you feel trauma in your youth. Storms came your way that wore you out. And
22:46by the time you were 25, you were an old, broken down, weary soul. I
22:52want to proclaim to you that it matters not how your giants have come. The
22:58Bible says, even though the giant supposed, I've got better equipment now.
23:04And the giant supposed that he had killed David. The favorite word
23:09in the Bible verses is found in verse 17. Verse 16 says,
23:15and he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain
23:21David. But verse 17 says, and it's my favorite word, but...
23:27The son of Jeuriah. secured him this means he ran
23:33to his aid it means that he got between David and the spear of the
23:38giant and the Bible said he smote the Philistine and killed him my word for
23:44you is if you've been through the weariness of life and you've been fighting the
23:49same Giants for a long time when you get to a place where you don't
23:54have the same strength that you did the first time The Bible says when David
23:59grows weary that God doesn't give him more power He gives him more
24:05people. God could have sent David a lightning bolt Instead God sent him
24:11a man and it looked like David was dead But Abishai came along
24:16and he stepped in and killed the giant and do you know who
24:22Abishai was? He was David's sister's son his nephew And verse 21 tells us
24:28that there was a giant with 24 fingers and toes. And you know who killed
24:33that giant? David's brother's son. In other words, it was two of David's nephew who
24:38had watched David from the time they were little kids. Get up and fight the
24:43battles. When they were just five and six years old, they saw David walk up
24:48to giants and stare them down and say, you come to me with sword and
24:53shield, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts. They
24:59watched David fight. They watched David win. When I took this church, I did all
25:03kinds of crazy things. I still do crazy things down on the South Campus. I
25:08did it just the other day. I may have done it up here. I don't
25:12know. When I was young, I used to walk the pew. Brother Sean Hickson was
25:16a five-year-old back then. He was one of the young men in this church that
25:21slept down under the pews. Sometimes he slept upon the pews. And we had hard
25:26wood pews. There was no pads in that church. We were not a soft church.
25:31But when Sean woke up, he had the shape of wood all up in his
25:36face. And his mama was one of my great worshipers and great prayer warriors and
25:41one of the great dreamers of the church house. And Sean was just a five
25:46year old little boy. I remember Sean when he had hair. He had a lot
25:52of hair. Sometimes he let it grow out and it would get puffy and it
25:57would puff all out and he would sometimes gel it down. But now he's gotten
26:02a little older. But you know what? Let me tell you what God does for
26:07us. If we have fought our youth through and we were young, but now we're
26:1360. I still know how to fight, ladies and gentlemen. But let me proclaim to
26:18you. I don't have the same strength I did when I came. And I've got
26:24some elders in this church that don't have the same strength you did when
26:30you came. But that doesn't mean your call is any less. It doesn't mean
26:35that the cause is any less. It doesn't mean it's time to fold your
26:41arms and twiddle your thumbs and cut out on us. It's time to keep
26:46on going. Because those young men had learned to run toward the giant. They
26:52had been surrounded. David now was surrounded by men that he had poured into.
26:58And when the next giant shows up, look at God already with a plan.
27:04And Moses found this out. He was 80 years old when he watched the
27:09battle going on down in the valley. And he noticed something curious when his
27:15hands started going down. The people began to lose the battle. But he noticed if
27:20he could keep his hands up, the battle would be won. But there were two
27:26men around Moses that saw, "I see that he's still God's man, but he doesn't
27:31have the same strength to hold up his hands." And so Aaron and Hur went
27:37and grabbed one arm and another arm, and they held those arms up. And as
27:43long as Moses' hands were in the air, the battle was being won. Ladies and
27:48gentlemen, I'm still a young man. Don't count me out yet. But there's a reason
27:54God gave us the age and the season and the time when David had his
28:00second wave of giants. And the second wave of giants just said his hands were
28:05heavy. But heavy hands do not mean that God is finished with you. Heavy hands
28:11do not mean that God's power is any less. Heavy hands
28:17does not mean your dreams are over, your promises are dead.
28:23I know we're all pretending like we're young, and this is
28:29a young church. I was thinking, God, when I got back,
28:35I didn't have any hospital visits to make. I thank God
28:41for a young church. I have some friends who pastored mostly an older church and
28:47I'm telling you what they will wear out a trail to the hospital back pastoring
28:51that church I will go to the hospital but I want to tell you this
28:56is a young church and I'm thankful for that but heavy hands doesn't mean that
29:01God is finished I want to say it plainly God is not done in South
29:06Florida I'm watching God raise up The two men that worked for me, Sean Montgomery
29:11and Justin Montgomery and Sean Hickson. My dyslexia kicked in. Just Sean Montgomery and
29:16Justin Hickson. That's it. I love you. It's good to see you back. I
29:22know I pushed back on you the other Sunday, but that's okay. I still
29:28got some, but you're not needed. I love you, big dog. Thanks for being
29:33in the house of the Lord. These two men, they were young. Now, Justin
29:39was older when he came, 18 years. But compared to where he is now,
29:45that was really young. But I have watched these guys grow up. And now when
29:50we meet, there's a fire in their soul. There's a giddy up in their spirit.
29:56That picnic yesterday was a result of our church administrator and his sweet wife who
30:01makes him work. She makes him work more than he wants to work. I'm joking.
30:07But the executive pastor, because that's my dyslexia. I can't get their titles figured out.
30:13His wife is the what? This is what my wife is right here.
30:19Administrator's wife. I'm sorry, but I was speaking prophetically. Who knows? The administrator's
30:25wife. It's amazing how God works. It's mysterious in all of his ways.
30:31But why does God do this? Why is it that our men's department, brother Armando
30:36shepherded this men's department for 20 years and brother Austin has accepted the calling and
30:41now I came to the last men's meeting and it was, that back was full
30:46with hungry eyes and driven men who had a lot to do that day but
30:51they were happy to be together. What is this all about? God is raising up
30:56a generation. That doesn't mean we're finished, but it means there are other giant slayers.
31:01We, I had my Goliath, but don't think you don't have a Goliath. Jeff Horswell,
31:07I watched you when you came to us, a shy little man just starting college,
31:12trying to get away from the cold north. Well, baby, God got you away from
31:17the cold north, and now he's setting your feet up, and he's making you to
31:22be a pillar of the church. You brought back a beautiful wife. God's giving you
31:28some beautiful children. And what is God doing? God's raising up
31:34another wave because God's going to protect his promises. I said
31:40God's going to protect his promises. I remember when
31:46I wondered who was going to take the property manager position. Our plant operations
31:52was held by Brother Bill Garfinkel, who was one of the most watchful and
31:57gifted eyes. His eyes could find everything that needed to be fixed. He didn't see
32:03people. He saw problems. And I mean, if a child bumped a wall, he didn't
32:08see the child. He saw the hole in the wall. And I couldn't stop him.
32:14He would be up here patching and working. He even thought he was a computer
32:19fixer. I had to take him out of his wife's office one day. He had
32:25put about five hours into restoring a computer that could have been fixed in 30
32:31minutes. And I told him, I said, "Bill Garfinkel, get out of this office!" But
32:37I remember wondering as a pastor, who's going to take that place? Because it's going
32:43to be hard to find somebody that's a giant slayer like William Garfinkel. He could
32:49slay every Goliath that tried to touch God's house. But God raised up a
32:55man named Harold Viles that is so gifted I can't hardly get him off this
33:01property. It's a gift and it might be something more than a gift. I don't
33:07know. But he's here as much as Brother Garfinkel was. And he's power and precedent.
33:12He just had open heart surgery. And what is he? One of the first places
33:17he comes after open heart surgery is right back on this property. But let me
33:22tell you something, Brother Viles. You're not as strong as you used to be. But
33:27I've got a word for the young folk in this house, too. God's going to
33:32protect his promise. Amen. Because it's not just about
33:38a kingdom of David. This is a kingdom of the name of the Lord. When
33:43people start talking about it's David's kingdom or it's another person's kingdom or it's that
33:49man's kingdom or even that this is David Elms' church. You got it bad wrong,
33:54ladies and gentlemen. There's names associated to places. But God will raise up a
34:00generation that are going to be giant slayers. And when that next giant
34:05comes, don't worry, elders. These young people are going to run to the
34:11giant. They're going to run and take him down. I remember the first
34:17time Christian Moore walked through the doors of this church. It's hard to
34:23forget because he's head and shoulders above everybody else. And he sat back in the
34:28back and I think he didn't come for Jesus. I think he was coming for
34:33a girl. Somehow Jesus gave him that girl. But he was coming for a girl.
34:38And I remember wondering, are you just coming for a girl? Are you coming for
34:44Jesus? Because I've been around a long minute, ladies and gentlemen. We got some girls
34:49worth coming for. But I've married some that got shook off from that first marriage.
34:54Because that first marriage realized that woman was going to serve God more than she
35:00was going to serve him. And that was the problem. And so I looked at
35:05Christian. I said, all right, we'll see. She's worth it. But what's there? And what
35:11is happening now? Every Friday night that we have activities, Brother Christian and that sweetheart
35:17of his, they They're in this house. It's not all dressed up like a Sunday.
35:21It's not packed like this building is now. It's just a few and he's got
35:27to get them to come forward and he's got to throw all kinds of games
35:32out. He's got to make himself half a nut just to be willing to be
35:37embarrassed by himself. His hairdo is an embarrassment. He does this for the young people,
35:42I tell you. Only for the young people would a man do that to his
35:47own head. But what is going on? I watched him. He came a highly decorated
35:52academic guy. A man whose father had businesses of sprinkler systems and he was situated
35:58in South Florida and watching Christian and I met with him as a single
36:04young man. Now God has raised him up and he was working all this
36:09last week so that your young people can have a place at Holiday Youth
36:15Convention here right after Christmas. Why? Because he is a giant killer. He knows that
36:21there's some Goliaths that are wrecked to be coming. And he's saying, I'm
36:27not going to stand back and let the elders fight alone. The singers
36:33that, Brother Austin led the singers to sing right before I preached. Austin,
36:39when you pointed that out, that that came from chapter 22. My
36:44Lord, I said if Austin needed a confirmation that he chose the right thing,
36:50that's as big a confirmation because I promised you there was no collaboration. Sister
36:56Elms come, I'm finished preaching. All of that process, David wrote that song after
37:01he was presumed to be dead. Do you know what 1 Chronicles 22
37:07says about David after 60? He prepared abundantly before his death. The greatest
37:13work David ever did was from the time that they thought he was
37:19dead until the time he literally died. It was from that day forward
37:25that he accrued that which Solomon would build. He established God a house
37:30abundantly from that day forward. Did they stop praising? No, because he kept
37:36writing songs. The song they just sang was written by David after everybody
37:42thought he was dead. Another song he wrote after that is Psalm 8.
37:48"O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth." He
37:54wrote that later. He wrote it when he was an old man because the Bible
37:59said that he wrote it to the chief musician. I promise you, young King David
38:05had no chief musician. Young King David did not hardly have a band. But by
38:10the time he was older, he had chief choirs and chief musicians. He had orders
38:15praying 24 hours a day and worshiping 24 hours a day. Why? Because he knew
38:21God. who's going to protect his promise. He gives power
38:26to the faint and to them that have no might, he increases the
38:32strength. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They
38:38shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not grow
38:44weary. They shall walk and not faint. I'm going to open this altar
38:50for three groups of people today. First of all, on this side, I'm
38:56going to open my altar for those who have waxed faint. You've been
39:02fighting a long time. It's the same fight Again, and
39:08you're tired you haven't quit but you've thought about
39:14it. Your hands are heavy. If that's you would
39:20you stand right now? I'm gonna ask you to
39:25come but I want you to stand first if
39:31you're tired It's been the same fight and your
39:37hands are heavy the same battle. I'll wait on
39:43you. I know you're out there Would you come
39:48and stand right here together, please I mean your
39:54crowd I'm just preaching this message right now. I'm
40:00here with you. I Same fight, same
40:05discouraging words, same Goliath roar. Your hands are
40:11weary. Now, the second group. You're young. You
40:17haven't really got engaged yet. You're not a
40:23leader of any department yet, but you know
40:29God has been reaching to you, and you
40:34know you're not going to stand back. But
40:40you're willing to admit, "I know a Goliath
40:46is coming. I know a giant is coming,
40:52and I want to let him know
41:01to fight you. If you're in that group, would you stand right now? Young, maybe
41:07you're young in the Lord. Maybe you haven't served God a long time. Maybe you're
41:13mature in life, but you're just beginning to serve the Lord and you want to
41:19send a message. I'm willing. I want to fight the giant. I want to engage
41:25in battle. I'll wait. There's a few more of you. I know. I know there's
41:31a few more of you. Would you all come and stand right here in the
41:37middle, please? Come stand here in the middle.
41:43The Giants keep coming, but God's gonna protect His
41:49promise. And the last group, for those who have
41:54not yet even got on the battlefield, you haven't
42:00been baptized in Jesus' name, you haven't been filled
42:06with the Holy Ghost, but you know that the
42:12devil doesn't keep its deals. You know the
42:17world over promises and under delivers. That it
42:23always comes and tells you, "Do this and
42:28you'll get that." So you do this, but
42:34you don't ever get that. And you want
42:39to say, "Lord, I'm coming to you. I
42:44want to open up right this area right
42:50here. Would you please stand and come on
42:55down?" If you're in that group, you just
43:01want to say, "Lord, count me in. Count
43:06me in. I'll wait." I always know this
43:11about God. He's working in places
43:17none of us can see. Now let the
43:23house stand with me if you will please.
43:29All of you that are in the weary.
43:34Get ready. Get ready. I'm not going to
43:40make you young again. I'm not going to
43:46give you strength like you used to have
43:52again. But I am going to assure you.
43:58It's not done Bill Garfinkel. He's not done
44:04with you. Bill Mulligan,
44:09he's not done with you, sir. He's
44:14not done with you. Same giant, same
44:20battle, same discouragement. Martine, he's not done
44:26with you. Same giant, same lies. Some
44:31of the things are facts, but God's
44:37gonna protect his promise, girl. I want
44:42to come to you all, you giant
44:48killers. You're strong. You're powerful. You're called.
44:54You're appointed. You don't have all of your stories yet. You've got giants
45:00coming your way, but you're ready to run and say, Lord, I'm running
45:06to the giant. I'm going to take him down. All the rest of
45:11the house, would you stretch your hands toward this altar area? If you're
45:17a saint in this house, would you come and gather around these folks
45:22and let us pray some commissioning over them?
45:26In the
45:31name of
45:35Jesus Christ,
45:40I plead
45:45the blood
45:49over every,
45:54though everyone
45:59that has
46:03fought and
46:08the weariness
46:13has come.
46:17The exhaustion
46:22comes much
46:27faster. The
46:31weariness comes
46:36much faster.
46:45you
