Summary

Pastor David T. Elms explores the significance of Pentecost, connecting the Old Testament 'Feast of Weeks' to the New Testament outpouring of the Holy Spirit as an essential power for living a transformed life in a broken world.

Key points
  • The Old Testament remains essential because it provides the context for the Messiah and the foundations for events like Pentecost.
  • Pentecost (Shavuot) was originally a 'feast of weeks' requiring four actions: counting the days of anticipation, giving a freewill offering, rejoicing vibrantly, and remembering God's deliverance from bondage.
  • The Holy Ghost was given to provide believers with power to overcome a 'real' and often difficult world, manifesting through the biblical sign of speaking in tongues.
  • Messiah's first coming was in humility as a servant, but his second coming will be a 'final countdown' to a return in power and majesty where every knee will bow.
  • The Holy Spirit is not just for emotional experiences but serves as an internal 'fuel' that checks our tempers, reshapes our attitudes, and transforms our nature over time.

This week, invite the Holy Spirit to 'check' your natural responses in difficult moments-whether in traffic, at work, or at home-and choose to yield to His transformative power rather than your own impulses.

Reflection questions
  1. Pastor Elms mentions that 'life is real' and difficult. How has the Holy Spirit helped you navigate a specific 'real-world' challenge recently?
  2. The sermon emphasizes a 'formal counting' of anticipation. What are you currently anticipating or expecting God to do in your life?
  3. Why is it significant that Jesus first came as a humble servant rather than a conquering king, and how does that affect how we serve others today?
  4. How does the concept of 'surrender' (rather than 'pumping yourself up') change your approach to prayer and seeking God?

0:00about. Here's what I want to tell you.
0:00Oh, I could preach all day, but I'm not
0:01going to. Here's our text we read out of
0:04Acts the 4th chapter. And if you have
0:06your Bibles, I would love you to open it
0:08and get your pen out and just get your
0:11pen ready to mark some stuff, okay?
0:14Because Acts two is why we celebrate the
0:17day of Pentecost. If you were driving
0:18around Monday and Tuesday, you saw a
0:20bunch of Jewish people walking wherever
0:23you lived here in South Florida. They
0:24were walking kids. And I I I'm I'm used
0:27to this happening Saturday, Friday night
0:30to Saturday on my way to church. But I
0:34was stunned. Monday, they were all
0:36walking and I thought, what's going on?
0:38I didn't realize that it was Shabu
0:42Shàuot. Uh, and this is their feast of
0:47weeks. Okay, there's three names to
0:50this, but you and I need to know what it
0:51is. Because when we preach here, we're
0:54not creating some new religion than the
0:56religion of the
0:58Jews. This is why the Old Testament's
1:01still important at this church. While
1:03some of Christendom saying we're going
1:04to vote the Old Testament off the island
1:06because we don't like the violence that
1:08that is in it. I think you must have
1:11never had a history class.
1:13or you've winked at an awful lot of
1:15truth that's in there. Have you ever
1:16heard of Gingis Kong? Khan, not Kong.
1:19King Kong. He was kin to King
1:22Kong. Okay, here's the thing. I need to
1:25know the Bible. And the Bible's not some
1:27sweet soft soap sanctioned deal to make
1:30life look like it was simple and cool
1:32and smooth and everybody got it easy
1:34when they followed the Lord. No, it's
1:36real. And that's what the life that
1:38you're going to live when you leave this
1:39place today. Real. Real. Some of you may
1:42have a a challenge with your tires. I
1:44drove by my neighbor. He had two flat
1:45tires on one side. I thought, "Boy, he's
1:47got a challenge coming home." I don't
1:49know what batch of nails he ran into,
1:51but both tires on the left side of his
1:53car was flat as a flitter. I thought, I
1:56don't know if I feel the passion to help
1:58him change those tires right
2:03now. That's why you get Triple
2:07A. But here's my point. My point is is
2:11that life is
2:13real. If you're married, marriage is
2:18real. Sometimes you
2:21agree. Sometimes you agree to not agree
2:26peaceibly. And that sometimes is harder
2:29than
2:31others. Life is real. Sometimes the
2:34promotion passes you by. Sometimes the
2:36politics on the job gets all up in your
2:39spirit that you don't even have the
2:40spirit where you want to walk through
2:42the doors. You want to really work at
2:46home. Why? Because life is real. And
2:50this is why the Holy Ghost was given so
2:54that you would have power to
2:58overcome the world. But it's not just
3:02for the now. It's also in the hereafter.
3:04But this is why Acts chapter 2 is so
3:06important. Uh the Lord came two two
3:09comingings of Messiah. Two comingings of
3:12Messiah. You know, I feel like just
3:13walking among the whole crowd today
3:15because I'm just talking from my heart.
3:18Um but I'm sure the cameras don't swivel
3:20quite like
3:22that. I could really work those folks
3:24back there. Listen to me. The whole the
3:29whole Bible is about a coming Messiah.
3:32The whole Old Testament is about Messiah
3:35coming. And the whole New Testament is
3:38about Messiah coming. It's all about
3:40Messiah coming. But there's one distinct
3:43that you need to know. Messiah has not
3:46really come
3:48yet. Okay? Don't I don't want to mess
3:50you up. Jesus is the Messiah. But when
3:54he came, he did not come in power or in
3:58glory or in majesty or in riches or in
4:03might. He came as a servant, humble with
4:08only one clothing piece that he had to
4:11wear. He did not have a place to lay his
4:13head. Foxes have holes, birds have
4:16nests. The son of man had no place to
4:18lay his head. Born in a manger, buried
4:21in a borrowed tomb. That was Messiah.
4:24The world thought that when Messiah
4:26come, he would come as do our common
4:29kings with all kinds of splendor and
4:33grandeur. But he said, "I have come to
4:36let you know that I have the power even
4:39in weakness to transform the world. You
4:42know it. Therefore, I will surrender to
4:47living needing
4:49sleep, needing to eat, walking with you,
4:54playing with
4:56children in group settings of a of
4:59crowds where in that day men, you know,
5:02couldn't mess with children. And I mean,
5:04I need to say that properly nowadays.
5:06You know, children were for another
5:09room, a different place. Just read what
5:12Plato thought of kids. Read what Cicero
5:15thought of children. Read what these
5:16supposed wise men, the the children,
5:18just get them away. Get them away.
5:20They're a problem. And here comes Jesus
5:22who says, "Let the children come unto me
5:25unless you become like a child. You
5:27cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven.
5:29You won't get the Holy Ghost in your
5:31unless you're willing to let the child
5:33in you come out." Not childish,
5:35childlike.
5:42Now, I'm already preaching, but I had to
5:44go back and say this. This week, I got
5:46my my fourth grandbaby, Scarlett
5:53Olivia. Scarlett Olivia Bonia had Rome
5:58Avalon on was it Thursday night? It was
6:02Wednesday night. She is how many
6:05inches? 21 inches. She's taller than
6:09little Bowden. 21 in long but 7 and 12
6:13in ounces. Is that right?
6:177.5 pounds.
6:23Okay. It's all sound like a fish to
6:28me. Okay. So, I thank the Lord for that.
6:33I I praise the Lord for that. But the
6:36this this process of the Messiah
6:40coming was different than what we know
6:43he's coming as. And so he said the whole
6:46Old Testament is Messiah's coming. He's
6:49going to come to earth. A virgin shall
6:51conceive. A baby shall be born, shall be
6:53laid in a manger. Thou shalt call his
6:55name wonderful counselor, the mighty
6:57God, the everlasting father, the prince
6:58of peace, and the of the increase of the
7:00government and peace. There shall be no
7:02end. This is Isaiah's prophecy. A child
7:05shall be born in
7:06Bethlehem. And of course, Christmas is
7:09all about that. But folks, there's a
7:11reason why I'm dancing here today. And
7:13it's not over just that
7:15manger. And I'm not just dancing here
7:18like we did a couple weeks ago at for
7:20Easter because of a resurrected empty
7:22tomb. No, the greatest proportion of my
7:24dance is
7:26for what's coming.
7:31It's not what has been, it's what is
7:33about to be. And so for for today, I'm
7:36talking about a final countdown. A final
7:39countdown is that Messiah is coming. And
7:42next time he comes, every knee is going
7:45to bow. Not some, not according to their
7:48desire. Every tongue, it will be so
7:52factually
7:54laboratory obvious. There will not be
7:57any science that says he's not here. I
8:01know all kinds of science says he's not
8:02here right now. But I tell you the
8:05science is wrong because I know what I
8:09have and what has kept me these 58
8:11years. What has kept my marriage
8:13together? What has kept my my children
8:16alive? What has kept my family together?
8:18What has built this church? What has
8:21saved you sitting in this church house?
8:23I'm looking at miracle after miracle
8:26after miracle after miracle after
8:33miracle. And so he said in Acts chapter
8:372 that the Holy Ghost was why they had
8:40to wait. Now Jesus came, he was uh born.
8:43He died, resurrected. He said you all,
8:47it's not over. Now, we know that Mary
8:51had the spirit of God overshadow her and
8:53she gave birth to Jesus. We know that
8:55Elizabeth, the Bible says, she was
8:57filled with the Holy Ghost and the babe
8:59leapt within her. But was that the Holy
9:01Ghost for all of us? No. That was an
9:04Elizabeth experience, but there's no
9:06more Elizabeth's around. That was a
9:08married experience, but there's no more
9:09Mary's around. How do we get it to me
9:12and you? Jesus said to his disciples,
9:15"You guys have one of you have walked on
9:18water. All of you have helped me feed
9:20the multitude. You've seen the dead
9:22raised. You've cast out demons yourself,
9:24but you're not ready yet. Go to
9:26Jerusalem and Terry." Like my wife said
9:29earlier, "Wait until you get endued."
9:33That's infilled with power from on high.
9:36This is what Acts two is all about. Now,
9:40why did they do this? Because Acts two
9:42starts out by saying, "And when the day
9:43of Pentecost was fully come," here's the
9:46part where you need to know why the Jews
9:48were walking with strollers and little
9:51uh carts and doing all the things that
9:53they were doing to get to their
9:54synagogues on Monday and Tuesday.
9:57Because they were celebrating this thing
9:58called Pentecost. In our vernacular, in
10:01their vernacular, it's
10:03Shàuot. And I'm not Hebrew, so I
10:05probably don't say that with the right
10:08diction, but it's the celebration of
10:11what is known as the feast of weeks. And
10:14that's why I made the first text be
10:17read. So go in your Bibles with me to
10:20the book of Deuteronomy, the 16th
10:22chapter. There are four things that God
10:26told all of his people to do to
10:29celebrate the giving of the law. They
10:33were taken out of Egypt by mighty hand.
10:37Pharaoh let them go. Some say, "Well,
10:40the sea of reeds was only 4 in deep, and
10:42that's the reason why they were able to
10:44go across." Well, I want to know which
10:46miracle is bigger, the whole Egyptian
10:49army drowning in a in a sea that's 4 in
10:52deep
10:54or crossing on dry ground for the
10:56Israelis. You tell me. Either way you're
10:59going to go, there's a miracle demanded.
11:02I just choose to believe the book that's
11:03been proven right over and over and over
11:05and over and over and over again.
11:08archaeologically when they say there
11:09wasn't even anything there, they just
11:11keep digging. All of a sudden, they
11:12find, oh, it exactly like the Bible says
11:15it. And so, here here we are in the 16th
11:19chapter of the book of Deuteronomy. The
11:21Lord is establishing how you're supposed
11:24to party when you get into Canaan
11:27land. First of all, they got out of
11:29Egypt with Passover. Passover is the
11:32celebration of God delivering them from
11:35Egypt. And they still celebrate it on
11:37the front page of our papers today.
11:40Happy Passover. What is that? That's a
11:43celebration of something. It's like July
11:454th. Celebration of something. Something
11:48really happened that day.
11:51And so Passover, something really
11:54happened. They were delivered from
11:57slavery. By the way, Natanya, it's so
11:59good to have you here. I talked about
12:00your baby last week and you weren't
12:03here. Listen, that girl's been carrying
12:05a girl. Bless the Lord. Hallelujah.
12:07Amen. We're excited about
12:10Natana. And so they celebrate Passover.
12:14And then Passover, there was this period
12:17of time for 50 days until Moses went up
12:21on the top of Mount Si. And there God
12:23gave him the tablets of stone. We call
12:26it the law, the giving of the law. And
12:29the Lord said, 'You are to celebrate the
12:31giving of the law every year when you go
12:34into Canaan land for 40 years. They've
12:37celebrated it, but it's not the same as
12:39when they get Canaan land. And so this
12:4216th chapter is the definition of what
12:45the celebration is going to look like.
12:46And there's only four words that I want
12:48you to underline, four words. And the
12:50four words are this. First of all, verse
12:53nine, seven weeks. I'm reading out the
12:56King James, okay? Seven weeks shalt thou
12:58number unto thee. The number of seven
13:02weeks, for such time as thou beest to
13:04put the sickle in the corn. The first
13:06thing that they were supposed to do was
13:09count. It's a feast of weeks. What an
13:12odd name. You know why it's a feast of
13:14weeks? Because a week is a measure of
13:16time. So it was a measurement of seven
13:19weeks of seven days. And on the next
13:23day, after seven weeks of seven days,
13:25you are to have the most unbelievable
13:29shouting sweet party that you could ever
13:32imagine. That's what Shàuot was and is.
13:37They eat cheesecake. They eat cheese.
13:39It's a a celebration of sleeping and
13:42rest and
13:43enjoyment. This was to be the biggest
13:46celebration. And that word count doesn't
13:48sound in the Hebrew like it sounds to
13:51us. We think count one, two, three,
13:54four, five, six, seven, eight. No, that
13:57count
13:58means literally do it like we do
14:01Christmas. On the first day of
14:03Christmas, my true love gave to me a
14:05partridge in a pear tree. On the second
14:07day of Christmas, my true love gave to
14:09me two turtle doves and a partridge in a
14:12pear tree. I'm not going to sing it all.
14:17That request came in and I denied
14:20it. My point is is the counting that the
14:23Lord wanted was that every day for those
14:2750 days, there was to be a formal
14:31celebration that were one day closer to
14:34the party. Every night before they went
14:38to bed, they were to do a formal
14:40counting of the 70 or the 49 days plus
14:45one. The Bible said the first thing you
14:48better do when you start this party is
14:50like the Jews do for Hanukkah, they
14:52count eight days. It's a formal every
14:55day they go light another candle. What
14:58is it? It's a formal counting. The Lord
15:01wanted Pentecost to be a formal counting
15:05of anticipation. The next thing that he
15:07said is to give. Give. What did he say?
15:11Give. He didn't give a percentage. He
15:13said you give an offering, a free will
15:16offering in proportion to how the Lord
15:21has blessed
15:22you. Now, this is so amazing because
15:25some people think they bless themselves
15:27and so there's no need to give. And
15:29that's all right. I live with people
15:31like that all around me. That's that's
15:33not a surprise. But the Lord said to
15:35those who understand who the giver is
15:38according to the offering and the
15:41proportion that you have received. In
15:42other words, if it's been a tough year,
15:44the Lord knows that the proportion is
15:46according to the blessing of the Lord.
15:48But if it's been a great year, the
15:50proportion is according to the blessing
15:51of the Lord. I'm not preaching on giving
15:53right now, but that's part of Pentecost.
15:56First, you're to count. Secondly, you're
15:59supposed to give on Pentecost. Third
16:02thing that the Lord demanded of them to
16:04do is on verse 11, uh he said, "And thou
16:07shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God."
16:12You're supposed to rejoice. This
16:15rejoicing is vibrant. It's energetic.
16:18The Bible said the people round about
16:20would hear the noise of their
16:22celebration. It's like the reason all
16:25police have to go to noise calls many
16:27times. Somebody has a party. They got
16:28their pool music up and it's after 10
16:31o'clock and it's still thumping in the
16:32Somebody's going to call. What is it?
16:35The rejoicing is the noise of the
16:38celebration. And the rejoicing was not
16:40specific to just the exclusive ones. He
16:43said you're supposed to rejoice. And
16:45when you rejoice, you're supposed to
16:47rejoice with the men's servants, with
16:49the female servants, with your children,
16:52with your husband, with the stranger,
16:54with your rabbi.
16:58I'm not your rabbi, but the preacher is
17:01supposed to be part of this party.
17:03Everybody is supposed to rejoice and
17:07rejoice with the stranger, with the
17:10fatherless, rejoice with the widow that
17:14are among you in the place which the
17:16Lord hath chosen to put his name. So you
17:20are to rejoice over this. And the fourth
17:22thing that you are supposed to do is
17:24remember. Remember, thou shalt remember
17:27that thou was a bond man in Egypt, and
17:29thou shalt observe and do these
17:32statutes, four things that make
17:36Pentecost. And so when you read in Acts
17:38two, the day of Pentecost was fully
17:40come. They have been counting for 49
17:44days. And now it's the 50th day. It's
17:47the day after Passover. This is the
17:51celebration of harvest. It was the end
17:53of the wheat and the barley harvest. Oh,
17:56there's so much here. I could preach all
17:57day. I got I got to not do it. But this
17:59this harvest meant there's plenty here.
18:02There's a lot of grain. There's a lot of
18:04barley. The Lord's doing all of this for
18:06us now. But the reason we're going to
18:08rejoice is because we will not forget.
18:10We're in Canaan that land because he
18:13brought us out of Egypt land. We're in
18:16freedom because he brought us out of
18:19bondage. We're we're set we're set up
18:22with joy because he brought us out of
18:26sorrow.
18:27This world is not
18:30tame. But nor is God tame. You got to
18:34deal with a jungle out there. You either
18:37deal with an untamed world or an untamed
18:40God. It's just one has a nature that is
18:43good. The Lord is good all the time. And
18:47when he came on the day of Pentecost, he
18:49told them it is not complete. This
18:53festival, this celebration, when the day
18:56of Pentecost was fully come, they were
18:59all in one accord and in one place. And
19:02suddenly, they had been waiting there 10
19:05days. Suddenly, there came a sound from
19:08heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and
19:13it filled all the house where they were
19:15sitting. And there were appeared unto
19:17them cloven tongues like as fire. And it
19:22settled upon each of them. And they all
19:25began to receive the Holy Ghost and
19:28began to speak with other tongues. Other
19:31means not their native tongue, not one
19:34they knew or had gone to school for, not
19:36one they understood. This is why Paul
19:39spends so much time in 1 Corinthians the
19:4213th chapter talking about how when you
19:44speak with the understanding or you
19:47speak in the spirit. He was talking
19:49about talking in tongues. He said
19:51sometimes I sing with the understanding
19:54that means words I understand or I sing
19:57in the spirit. That's tongues. I don't
19:59know what I'm saying but it's a holy
20:01utterance that came to me when I
20:03received the Holy Ghost. And so when
20:06this happened on the day of Pentecost,
20:08they said, "All right, that's awesome.
20:10120 got it." Well, it was such a
20:12stumbling and staggering event that
20:14there were people that were acting bold
20:16and aggressive and strong and rejoicing
20:20and they were boisterous and they were
20:22loud and they
20:24supposed some heard the various
20:26languages and they're all listed there.
20:28All the languages they heard that they
20:30knew. The thing that's special about
20:32this is not that someone's talking in my
20:34language, but that I know he doesn't
20:36know my
20:37language. That's the outstanding thing.
20:40There's no way he knows my language. But
20:43when he's speaking it, what's he saying?
20:45Well, he's not given the answer to
20:46calculus
20:48problems. What's he saying? It's not a
20:51weather report of next week. They're
20:54rejoicing and praising God. So they're
20:57saying words of exaltation to the Lord
21:01in the other languages. But then the
21:03Bible says others said these men are
21:08full of wine. They are drunk. And that's
21:13when Peter says
21:16no. You suppose they've been drinking
21:18the wine you know about. But I'm telling
21:21you this is that which was spoken of by
21:24the prophet Joel.
21:27In the last days, saith God, I will.
21:30It's not you pumping it out. It's the
21:33Lord pouring it out. You don't have to
21:36get yourself wound up to receive it. You
21:38just got to get yourself yielded to
21:40receive it. You don't have to get
21:42yourself pumped up like a weightlifter
21:44to receive it. No, you just got to
21:47surrender your will to him and say,
21:50"Lord, I know if I'm saved, it's going
21:53to be because of you. If I'm changed,
21:55it's going to be because of you. And so,
21:57I'm going to do what the Bible says.
21:59Now, why do I insist on Holy Ghost with
22:02talking in tongues? Because that's what
22:04happened in the Bible.
22:06Why do I talk about a city with streets
22:08of gold? That seems abnormal, unusual.
22:11Why do I say heaven has a street of
22:13gold? Streets of gold, walls of jasper,
22:15gates of pearl. That seems so
22:17ridiculous. Well, it is
22:19ridiculous, but it's the Bible. So I am
22:23here to preach what Jesus said. He said
22:26it's eternal life. That's ridiculous.
22:30Nobody has eternal life. Don't you know
22:32in the society in the pledge in the
22:33whole world everything is breaking down.
22:36Breaking down. Erosion is on the world.
22:41Everything's going to erode. Well, let
22:43me tell you about a kingdom that's
22:44coming where there will be no more
22:46erosion. where you will be having life
22:51forever more.
22:53And so it's life not just forever more,
22:55but the greater thing is that it comes
23:00now and it changes you. Not you changing
23:04you. The Holy Ghost changes you. It's
23:07not that now you got to read 10 books a
23:10day. No. After you get the Holy Ghost,
23:13you'll go and you'll encounter the same
23:15old temptation that used to grab you,
23:18but now you'll have a new lifegiving
23:20force that speaks up in you. And you
23:24look at that thing and you don't see it
23:25as glamorous as you used to see it. You
23:28think,
23:31"Wow, I don't want that anymore."
23:35Not because it's a rule. It's because I
23:38got transformed
23:40by the power that workketh in me. I'm a
23:45new creature. I'm a new creation. Not
23:49because I got baptized in the tank in
23:51the back of the church. No. But when you
23:54got in the tank, you were buried an old
23:56man and you came out a new creature in
23:59Christ Jesus. Old things passed away.
24:04All things
24:07become. Another thing you think, well,
24:09after I'm baptized, ought to I be
24:10completely changed right that second.
24:12No, no. It says all things
24:14become. There's a
24:16process. But you have a
24:19fuel. You You'll do you'll you'll make
24:22an error. You will make an error. And
24:24then after you do this error, you'll
24:26think, "Well, I was never supposed to be
24:28living for God." But that's straight
24:30from hell. When you do that error,
24:32that's when the Holy Ghost sits down
24:33with you so kind and he'll just say,
24:35"Could you pour me a cup of coffee?" Oh,
24:37yeah. I'll pour you a cup of coffee. And
24:39before the Holy Ghost even speaks, you
24:41start saying, "Man, that was stupid,
24:43wasn't it?" Oh my goodness. I don't want
24:47that. That's not who I am. It's not who
24:51I'm created to be. That's not making me
24:53closer to my wife. That's not making our
24:56relationship more wonderful. That's not
24:58making me see the greatness that's in my
25:00child. That's not me. No. Selfishness
25:04gets checked. Lawlessness gets checked.
25:07Your your own attitude gets checked.
25:09Your temper gets checked. Your temper
25:11will burst out of control. And when
25:13you're without the Holy Ghost, you'll
25:14say, "See there, I was supposed to do
25:16that." After you get the Holy Ghost,
25:18your temper will still burst out of
25:23control. I told you, I don't know who I
25:26told. Maybe it was last week. Did I tell
25:28him last week about what happened in the
25:29truck? Yes, I did. I told that last
25:31week. I wasn't really prayed up as much
25:33as I should be. I was over downtown and
25:36uh was standing outside on the road
25:38right next to the Marriott and a car
25:40came by and cursed me and my wife. I
25:43didn't tell that
25:44here. I thought I did. Uh yeah, I did.
25:48Others were paying
25:51attention. She was there so I did. and
25:54they just cussed me and a a fellow
25:56pastor, pastor's over in St. Petersburg
25:58and his wife and they cussed me and uh
26:02before my spirit came forth and I
26:04realized I'm the chaplain and the
26:06pastor. I said, "Why don't you come back
26:09here and say that
26:15boy?" That wasn't
26:17smart. It wasn't smart. I mean, he might
26:20have come back there with a gun. It
26:23wasn't smart. Honestly, it wasn't smart.
26:24But sometimes I'm not as prayed up as I
26:26should
26:28be. And
26:30he he rolled by and cussed again at
26:35us. And my next response was more Holy
26:38Ghost response
26:41because after he went down, now listen,
26:43if y'all ever see me mad as a pastor,
26:45just pray for me, okay? I'm not perfect
26:48yet. This is still skin right here. But
26:51it's the real world where the Holy Ghost
26:53power works on you and changes who you
26:56are. It changes
26:59you. Next time he after he said that, I
27:02said, "I love you,
27:06too." There were other things I had in
27:09my
27:12repertoire. I don't cuss. My wife is I
27:15don't think Have you ever heard me cuss?
27:18No. Winter, have you ever heard me cuss?
27:21You haven't heard me cuss. It goes
27:23through my mind a lot.
27:30Here, here's the thing. I'm not trying
27:33to present myself as some great hero
27:34here. I'm telling you, the power of the
27:36Holy Ghost transforms who you are. Even
27:39when you're mad, even when you're angry,
27:42even when you're broke, even when you're
27:44disgusted, even when you got hate close
27:47by, the Holy Ghost changes it and turns
27:50it around and gives you power to become
27:54the son of
27:56God. Shall we stand all over this
27:58building? If you don't have the Holy
28:00Ghost today, I'm telling you, you need
28:02to get the Holy Ghost. Ah, the Holy Holy
28:05Ghost reshapes your responses. The Holy
28:08Ghost reframes your vision. The Holy
28:11Ghost gets new expectations inside of
28:14you. The Holy Ghost adjusts attitudes.
28:17The Holy Ghost moves you from living by
28:19fear into living by faith. The Holy
28:22Ghost gives you a boldness that you
28:24don't normally have. It doesn't come by
28:26the church you go to. It doesn't come by
28:29who you call your pastor. It doesn't
28:32come even by owning a Bible or wearing a
28:35cross around your neck.
28:38It comes by the power
28:41of
28:42surrender. Oh
28:44Lord, everyone here today that does not
28:47have the Holy Ghost, I'm praying right
28:49now that you would help them first of
28:52all realize they are not to live without
28:56it. There's not supposed to be an option
28:59on this world living without the Holy
29:02Ghost. Lord Jesus, give those who do not
29:05speak with tongues yet a hunger to say,
29:09"Lord, I want what the Bible says, not
29:13what a preacher on this earth says, not
29:16what somebody I respect that knows
29:18theology says. I want what the Bible
29:21says." Because those men are not going
29:23to judge me. The Bible's going to judge
29:26me. And if it was expected in the New
29:29Testament and every New Testament
29:30believer spoke with tonesues and it's
29:32assumed through the Bible that they all
29:34spoke with tonesues, then it is the same
29:37in this day. In spite of those that say
29:40it was just for those in the first day,
29:42they're wrong. I'm telling you, it's for
29:46everyone today. The Holy Ghost. Well,
29:49how do I get it? First of all, you got
29:52to repent of your sins. You got to be
29:54real with God. You can't say some fancy
29:56phrase that you read in a book. You
29:58can't even repeat after me and at work
30:01because I appreciate the fact that maybe
30:03you can appreciate some help while you
30:05way going on. But I'm telling you what,
30:07if you're going to fall in love with
30:08somebody, don't bring along your best
30:10buddy to tell you what to say to your
30:15girlfriend. Listen, Shannon David, I
30:18love him. He was my roommate at Bible
30:20college. He was so afraid of going on
30:22dates, asking girls out. He literally
30:25would walk up Helms. What's going on? I
30:27said, Shannon, she's told you every way
30:28she could that she wants to go out to
30:30eat. What in the world are you doing?
30:32No. What if she doesn't? What if it's
30:36Son?
30:39Exactly. Shannon David, if you're
30:41watching today, you know I told you
30:43that. God bless Chara. She She rescued
30:47you. All right. I loved him. He was a
30:50handsome sucker. Good night. He was so
30:54handsome, tall and
31:03handsome. But you got to admit, he had
31:05fine looking women on his arm. Every
31:08time they were always coming around, he
31:10wasn't huge sucker. Good night. I love
31:13him to
31:15pieces. You got to imagine me going on a
31:17date with him saying, "Now, Shannon,
31:20tell her you're Perfume is beautiful.
31:24Your perfume is
31:26beautiful. Okay, now Shannon, say that
31:31color looks good with your skin
31:34tone. That color looks good with your
31:37skin
31:38tone. That's like you praying after
31:42me. You're not being real with God. He
31:46doesn't want to hear theological
31:47gibberish. He wants to hear your soul.
31:51Say, "Lord, I was the one who had that
31:54big bike wreck at the end of Howie
31:56Circle when I hit the patch of rocks and
31:59I slammed into that pine tree and I
32:01thought I was gone because my headed my
32:04head was headed towards that pine tree.
32:06I was the one that was there and I knew
32:08you were the one who kept me alive."
32:10That's me, Lord. Now, that's my story.
32:12That's not your story. Don't go back
32:14talking about no pine tree on Howy
32:15Circle. That's my story. That's what he
32:18did for me.
32:27Every one of you have one of
32:31those. Every one of you have that
32:33moment. You know God walked in your
32:36world. I don't know when it was, but you
32:40do. Why don't you be real with the one
32:42who was
32:43there who saved you to get to this
32:47point? You don't have to say it where
32:49everybody can. hear it. I'm not trying
32:51to get you to just expose your whole
32:53soul to everybody, but before the one
32:56with whom your soul has to do, you
32:58better think through it while you just
32:59say
33:00hallelujah.
33:02Hallelujah. Hallelujah. You say, why do
33:05we say hallelujah so much the time?
33:07Maybe sometimes it's because we don't
33:08want you to hear what we really are
33:09thinking. So, we're just going to say
33:11hallelujah. Hallelujah. But our minds
33:14interpreting that hallelujah something
33:17else. Because that's how when you talk
33:18in
33:19tongues, it turns into the most dynamic
33:23prayer cry to heaven that you'll ever
33:26receive. Because things happen in your
33:28life that are bigger than words you can
33:30describe. And you need something bigger
33:32than a word that you can find in the
33:34dictionary. And that's when you'll speak
33:36in that language of love from heaven.
33:42Repent of your
33:43sins. Surrender your heart and be real
33:46with God. And then praise him. You don't
33:49beg him. Lord, please give me the Holy
33:51Ghost. Please give me Holy. It's a
33:54gift. Lord, I thank you. Just get in the
33:58action of yielding. Thank you. Thank
34:01you. I love you, Jesus. I need you,
34:05Jesus. I really need you, Lord. I'm 58
34:08years young. I'm
34:11blessed. But if I ever needed you
34:13before, I surely need you
34:16now. I don't need you less now than I
34:19needed you when I was
34:2118. I don't need you less now than I
34:24needed you when I had nowhere to preach.
34:27I don't need you less now, Lord, when I
34:29was trying to figure out if the the
34:31college would accept me. I don't need
34:33you less now, Lord, than when I was
34:35working at Protector Safety. I don't
34:37need you less now, Lord, than when I was
34:40loading a PD3 belt at the Syracuse, New
34:44York truck at the Raleigh hub of UPS. I
34:48don't need you less now, Lord. I need
34:51you just as
34:54desperately as I've ever needed you
34:57before. Fill me. Fill me with you. Fill
35:02me with you. And when that happens, you
35:05will have utterances. The Lord won't
35:08take over your tongue. He won't hijack
35:10your brain, but he will give you sounds
35:16that you don't
35:17understand. You won't
35:19comprehend. You won't say, "This is what
35:22I just said." No, there will be
35:24supernatural
35:26utterances that are from heaven. And
35:29you, it's so easy if you'll just do it.
35:33The enemy wants to make it so hard. When
35:36that utterance comes to you, say
35:40it. And say
35:43it because it's from
35:46God. If you practiced it and made it up,
35:49don't say it. I'm not in the quackery
35:51business. If you're copying me, say
35:54Kawasaki real
35:55fast.
35:58Yamaha. Go buy one. But don't pretend.
36:03But when that utterance comes to you, it
36:06might be a sha, a ca, a ma, a allah, a
36:08zah. It may be a he, a she, a me, a d, a
36:12be. I don't know what it's going to be,
36:16but it will be a flow. The Bible says
36:19like a river. And they're getting it all
36:22over the world right now. They're
36:24getting it in Africa. And they're
36:25getting in South America. And they're
36:27getting in Russia. And they're getting
36:29it behind behind the wall in China. And
36:31they're getting it in Europe. They're
36:33getting it in Norway. There's a revival
36:36in Norway breaking out. They're getting
36:38it in Catholic churches. They're getting
36:40it in Methodist churches. They're
36:42getting it in Presbyterian churches.
36:43They're getting it all over the world
36:45because the Bible said, "In the last
36:47day, saith God, I will pour out my
36:50spirit on all
36:52flesh." on all
36:55flesh. On all
36:57flesh. All right. Now, now's the time
37:00we're going to receive the Holy Ghost.
37:02If you want the Holy Ghost today and
37:04you've never received it, I'm inviting
37:06you to come to this altar right now and
37:09stand here with me. I will wait on you.
37:12I will make it easier. If you've spoken
37:15in tonesues, but it's been a while since
37:18you've spoken in tonesues, I'm inviting
37:20you to come down right now as well. If
37:23it's been a while since you spoke in
37:26tongues I'm
37:28waiting. I'm
37:30waiting. It's been a
37:35while. I'm
37:38waiting. No pressure on me.
37:42No pressure on you. Do you want this
37:49gift? Somebody want to break the
37:52ice? Somebody want to break the ice?
37:54Somebody want to step
37:58forward? It's a spiritual church. It's a
38:02spiritual church. It's a spiritual
38:05church. I love you, sir. I love you,
38:08Mason. You're bold, Bubba. You're my
38:10man. That's right. He's already taken a
38:13step. Somebody else want to take this
38:14step? Mendy's breaking through again.
38:17Breaking through again. It's been a
38:20while. It doesn't matter who you are. It
38:22doesn't m matter how long you've been in
38:24the church. God bless you. God bless
38:25you. This This is not for men to see.
38:28This is for God. That's right. Come on.
38:31Come on. Come on down. There's a
38:34breakthrough today. There's a
38:36breakthrough today. There's a
38:38breakthrough today.
38:40We're going to all talk in tonesues. I
38:43want us all to talk in tonesues today.
38:45It's a Holy Ghost Sunday. He said,
38:48"Remember you were once bound." Maybe
38:52you're still bound today and you think
38:54you got to be perfect before you get the
38:56Holy Ghost. No. No. You don't have to be
38:59perfect. You don't have to have it all
39:01figured out. He'll fill you just where
39:04you are right now. That's it. Come on
39:08down. Come on down. Come on close. I saw
39:10y'all at the beach the other day. Come
39:12on down. Come on. Come close. Somebody
39:15else. Somebody else want a brand new
39:17touch? Somebody else want a brand new
39:19touch?
39:21Hallelujah.
39:22Hallelujah. Everybody lift your hands
39:25right now. Let's thank the Lord for his
39:27presence. I thank you for your spirit,
39:29oh
39:30God. I thank you for your spirit, oh
39:33God. I thank you for your spirit, oh
39:35God.
39:36I thank you for your spirit, oh
39:39God. I bless you, Lord. I bless you,
39:42Lord. All right. I got some folks that
39:45are filled with the Holy Ghost, but
39:47these are your friends and the people
39:48you love. Why don't you come down and
39:51gather around them? We're going to
39:53create a space of pursuing the ways of
39:58God. I'm not playing games. This is no
40:02trickery. Hallelujah.
40:08Hallelujah. He said, "Count it down."
40:11The founding countdown is that there's
40:13coming a day there will be no more Holy
40:15Ghost poured
40:16out. I don't know when that day is, but
40:19there's going to be no more Holy Ghost
40:21poured out after the rapture. Nobody
40:25else will get the Holy Ghost. There'll
40:27be no more Holy Ghost poured out after
40:30he comes. Nobody else is allowed. He
40:34made it clear in his Bible. Oh, that's
40:37why we take this so
40:40seriously. That's why we take this so
40:43seriously. Hallelujah.
40:45Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
40:50Hallelujah. I love you, Jesus. I love
40:53you Jesus.
40:54[Music]
40:56All right. All right. Just wait just a
40:59minute. Wait just a minute. I want us to
41:01focus on repentance right now. Okay?
41:05Focus on repentance. I don't care how
41:08saved or lost you feel like you are. We
41:11all got to make ourselves very close
41:12with repentance because of fallen that
41:16we all do, have done, and may still do
41:20again. I want us to ask the Lord to
41:22forgive us of every time we've fallen
41:24short, every time we've sinned,
41:27everything we've made room for the
41:29devil. You ready? Let's do it together
41:31with your own words. Lord Jesus, we come
41:34to you right now asking you to wash us
41:38with your blood. Forgive us of our
41:41wrong. Forgive us of our selfishness.
41:45Forgive us of our sin. Forgive us of the
41:49times that we've doubted. Forgive us of
41:52the times that we've fallen short.
41:54That's it. That's it. Talk to him. Talk
41:58to him. Your words are perfect. Your
42:01words are perfect. Your words are
42:03perfect. If you want to cover your
42:05mouth, that's okay. So others don't see
42:07or hear you, that's okay. But I'm I'm
42:10I'm beseeching you. I'm I'm asking you
42:14repent right now. Oh Lord, wash me. Wash
42:18me in your blood. I want to have a right
42:21spirit. Renew in me a clean spirit. Oh
42:24God, I I need, oh Lord, my heart to be
42:27right.
42:28Oh Lord, I don't have it all figured
42:30out, but I know you'll forgive me. Even
42:33if I don't have it figured out, I don't
42:35understand it all, but your mercy is big
42:39enough to forgive me right now with what
42:41I know, with where I'm at. Forgive me,
42:43Lord. Forgive me for the times I I've
42:47been so full of doubt. Forgive me, Lord,
42:50for that denying the fact that you have
42:53kept me this far. Forgive me, Lord, for
42:56not including you in my in my rejoicing.
43:00Forgive me, Lord. Forgive me, Lord, for
43:02not loving like I ought to love. Forgive
43:05me, Lord, for not praising you like I
43:08know how to praise you. Forgive me,
43:10Lord. Are you asking him to forgive you?
43:14Are you asking him to forgive you? He's
43:17faithful to forgive you. He's faithful
43:19and just to forgive you.
43:22Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
43:25Hallelujah.
43:30Everybody say in Jesus name.
43:34Now say amen.
43:37Amen means so be it. Means whatever I
43:40just prayed let it be. It's the reason
43:42we'll say
43:43amen. Amen. I'm not saying it after the
43:46preacher. I'm saying it from my soul.
43:49Amen. Everybody say it from your soul.
43:52[Music]
43:54Amen. Look up to the sky and say
43:57it. Amen.
44:01See the mighty God of heaven and say
44:04it.
44:07Amen. Let the church say it.
44:11Amen. Let everything that hath breath
44:15say it.
44:18Amen. Now we're going to have an
44:20outpouring of the Holy Ghost.
44:23Just praise
44:24him. You don't know what to say, just
44:28say
44:30hallelujah. We're not trying to get you
44:32stumbling over
44:33lou. We're just trying to give you the
44:35him, the highest word in the Bible for
44:38praise. The only word around the world
44:40that is the same in every language. In
44:43China it's
44:45hallelujah. In Africa, it's hallelujah.
44:50In Asia, it's hallelujah.
44:53South America, it's halal. Everywhere in
44:56the world, one word. It's the same word.
45:00So when you say it, we're not saying no
45:02word for you to stumble over. We're
45:04saying get pure. Get pure. And as you
45:08praise him, when you feel that emotion
45:10of promise, the comforter of the Lord
45:13come over you. And the words
45:15come, speak them. Are you ready? When
45:20I say let's praise
45:23him by the authority of God's holy word,
45:28by the promise of this book, by the
45:32preaching of Simon Peter on the day of
45:35Pentecost, as it fell on the in the book
45:38of Acts, so fall in this house today,
45:43open your mouth and praise the Lord and
45:47begin to speak in that heavenly
45:52language as the
45:54spirit gives you the
45:58words to say.
46:02Hallelujah.
46:05Hallelujah.
46:09Hallelujah.
46:10[Music]
46:12Hallelujah.
