Summary
Pastor David T. Elms preaches a powerful Pentecost Sunday message on the necessity of receiving the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. He challenges 'easy believism' and calls the church back to the biblical pattern of Spirit-led living and worship.
Key points
- •Biblical salvation is not found in an 'easy believism' or simply repeating a sinner's prayer; it requires a scriptural pattern of repentance, water baptism in Jesus' name, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
- •The initial physical evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost is speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance, a supernatural sign involving the yielding of the tongue (the most untamable member of the body).
- •Pentecost is not just a historical church event but a lifestyle of continuing to walk in the Spirit, which provides an inner 'river of living water' to sustain believers through trials and blessings.
- •The Holy Ghost is not an optional 'add-on' for 'emotional' Christians; Romans 8:9 makes it clear that 'if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.'
- •Worship is the gateway to God's presence; believers should enter His gates with praise regardless of their current circumstances or feelings.

Life application
This week, set aside time to move past logical, structured prayer and focus on yielding your spirit to God. If you have already received the Holy Ghost, seek a 'refilling' by spending time praying in the Spirit to strengthen your inner man.
Reflection questions
- Have you personally experienced the 'initial evidence' of the Holy Ghost as described in the Book of Acts?
- What 'easy' versions of Christianity have you encountered, and how do they compare to the apostolic pattern Pastor Elms described?
- Pastor Elms mentioned that the tongue is the most untamed member of our body; how does yielding your speech to God change your daily character?
- Is your walk with God currently based on your own understanding or on the 'rivers of living water' provided by the Spirit?

0:00and he's been great. He's been great.
0:00All of you guests that are here, it's a
0:01joy to see you on the this Sunday, this
0:04Pentecost Sunday morning. I'm thankful
0:07you came to church. And Friday night was
0:09a great table event. I saw the video of
0:12some people who didn't know how to bowl.
0:15I saw the bowling ball was heavier than
0:17some of those girls that was trying to
0:19throw it, but it was a wonderful,
0:21wonderful picture. And I'm so
0:22appreciative of the table. They get
0:24together not just for fun, but for
0:26fellowship. And not just for fellowship,
0:28but for communion. And that's very
0:30important for that age bracket. It's
0:31really important for all of us. But, I
0:33want to celebrate what Brother and
0:34Sister Viles are doing for our group,
0:37The Table, and all of you participants
0:39in that. I'm going to preach on this
0:41Pentecost Sunday Sunday on the subject
0:44you shall receive. Turn to your neighbor
0:48as you're seated and tell them you shall
0:52receive.
1:02Hallelujah.
1:04Hallelujah.
1:06One of the great old songs of yesteryear
1:08was we shall be changed. We shall be
1:12changed. Changed in a moment
1:14and
1:15changed from this mortal to immortality.
1:18I got it. She doesn't know it. Look at
1:21her. She's shaking her head like she
1:22don't know it. But, if I started
1:23singing, she would start playing it.
1:24That's how good she is. She is just that
1:27good. Uh
1:29and uh
1:30but it's one of those classics. We shall
1:33be changed.
1:36We shall be changed.
1:40Changed from this mortal to immortality
1:45in the twinkling of an eye. How many key
1:48changes did I make just then?
1:50I made so many key changes that the
1:52internet audience were not able to stay
1:54with me.
1:55But that's all right. It's one of those
1:56great songs. We shall be changed.
1:58Changed from this mortal
2:00to immortality.
2:04Well, the Bible makes it plain and
2:06brother Armando missed it when he read
2:07the text.
2:09He read he misread his text in Romans
2:12chapter number one. I mean eight verse
2:1411. So, I would like to get the verse up
2:16there so we can read it correctly.
2:19Because he missed a very important first
2:23word in that verse. Uh 8:11 of Romans.
2:27That's 1 Thessalonians 14. I appreciate
2:30that verse, but I'm looking for Romans
2:328:11.
2:34Romans 8:11 says two words at the
2:38beginning that our brother Armando
2:40missed when he was reading it.
2:43He said, "The spirit of him
2:46that raised up Christ from the dead."
2:48Which is powerful. It's a accurate way
2:50to say it. It's an effective way to say
2:53it, but it is not biblically
2:57clear and sound.
3:00BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT of people
3:02who think just by being born on this
3:05earth means the spirit
3:09of the Lord dwells in them.
3:12But the scripture is very clear
3:15that it's not that the spirit of the
3:17Lord dwells in you.
3:19It's a condition
3:21that it starts very clearly. It says,
3:23"But if"
3:26Those are two huge words.
3:30There's a lot of people that come to
3:31this church that automatically, if I ask
3:33them they've got the spirit of the Lord,
3:34they immediately will tell me, "Oh, yes,
3:35I've got the spirit."
3:37I got the spirit cuz I think good
3:38thoughts about God. I've got the spirit
3:40because I attend church. I've got the
3:42spirit because I know how to sing
3:43Christian music. I've got the spirit
3:45because my parents were in the church.
3:47I've got the spirit because of a
3:48thousand other things they'll say.
3:51But the Bible makes it very clear
3:54that you don't get the Holy Ghost just
3:56by thinking positive thoughts.
3:58And that's the reason Paul in the book
4:00of Romans, and Brother Armando
4:02mistakenly,
4:04he got so wound up, the Holy Ghost hit
4:06him and he just jumped over but if
4:12And what I want to tell you is one of
4:14the major differences of this church.
4:16And the major difference of any church
4:18that's bounded out of this church. In
4:21fact, it's an honor to have Brother
4:22Torres in this house today. Brother
4:24Torres is here on this to celebrate
4:26Pentecost Sunday, but he will be back at
4:29the 4:00 hour. And do you all start at
4:315:00? You start at 5:00. Uh uh but for
4:35our Spanish church, which starts at
4:375:00, this is our second Spanish church
4:39that we have started in this building.
4:42And we're so thankful. And if we need to
4:44start three or four or five or 20, it
4:46doesn't matter to me. We're just going
4:47to keep putting it out because there is
4:50a lot of people in Christianity
4:53who believe all you've got to do is pray
4:57a prayer
4:58after a preacher.
5:00Repeat after the preacher
5:02that I believe in my heart
5:04and I confess with my mouth that Jesus
5:07Christ is Lord.
5:09And they say that means you are now
5:13saved.
5:14And I will tell you
5:16I appreciate everyone who's trying to
5:18get saved.
5:20I'm thankful for all the churches that
5:22are bringing praise to the Lord.
5:25But this is a different church than
5:28those churches that have the nice
5:30clothes to them.
5:32And I am not belittling those churches,
5:35but I am telling you my desire is to get
5:39you
5:40intellectually honest
5:43with what the Bible says.
5:45Because there's a lot of people
5:47that have created an easy believism.
5:51That's what it's called, two words, easy
5:53believism. Believism. All it means is
5:55that they've made it simple
5:58for you to come to church
6:00and claim you are saved.
6:03When the Bible never ever tells you
6:06that you're saved just by repeating a
6:10preacher's prayer. That is never modeled
6:12in the Bible. Nowhere does an apostle
6:15tell the audience to pray after him. The
6:19Bible says, "But while he was preaching,
6:21the spirit fell upon them and they all
6:25received the gift of the Holy Ghost."
6:27So, it will not be you repeating after
6:29me that will be the evidence of you
6:31getting the Holy Ghost. If that's been
6:34led to lead you to think that way, I
6:37want to tell you you are not evil,
6:40but you are not as close to the Bible as
6:42you need to be. Because that is the
6:45atmosphere of this present hour, is to
6:47have a nice buttoned-up church service.
6:50We're not going to have a nice close to
6:53our service. I'm going to open this
6:54front area, and I'm going to appeal for
6:56people to come up here and pray. And
6:59when you pray, there will not be a
7:01certain moment that I'll say, "All
7:02right, everybody, repeat after me." And
7:05then we'll clap our hands. I'm not
7:07mocking it, I'm just telling you what
7:08happens. And you know it better than I
7:10do because you've been in a hundred of
7:11those services. Then they just clap
7:13their hands and everybody's saved. That
7:16is not the model that the scripture
7:18gives. The Bible tells them, "And when
7:20the day of Pentecost was fully come."
7:22Acts the second chapter. "When the day
7:24of Pentecost was fully at come, they
7:25were all in one accord in one place. And
7:28suddenly there came a sound from
7:30heaven." And Peter told them to pray
7:32after him a certain word.
7:35That's not what the Bible says.
7:38There was no preacher or apostle praying
7:41and you repeating after him. They
7:44tarried until Why this word? Tarry.
7:48Tarry means wait. Wait is a frustrating
7:51thing. If you've ever had to wait, it's
7:53frustrating. And if you have never
7:55received the Holy Ghost with the initial
7:58evidence of speaking in heavenly
8:00language, one you do not understand,
8:04then you need to receive the Holy Ghost
8:08as the Bible says, "You will receive the
8:11Holy Ghost." You do not receive the Holy
8:13Ghost by having a positive thought about
8:15God. You receive the Holy Ghost by
8:18having a supernatural,
8:20spiritual encounter from on high when
8:23you yield your tongue, which the Bible
8:27says is the most evil part of your body.
8:31Your tongue is the most untempered
8:34and unlicensed and off-the-leash member
8:38of your body. You know it better than I
8:40do. You know when you're mad, you have
8:42words.
8:44You know when somebody does you wrong,
8:46you have thoughts. And sometimes you
8:49give way to those thoughts. Even some of
8:51y'all saved folk there looking at me,
8:53you have made way for these words to
8:55come out of your mouth, and you had to
8:58say, "Lord, forgive me." And you had to
9:00tell that person, "That's not what I
9:02think about you."
9:05Why? Because this little thing right
9:06here called your tongue, is the
9:08quickest, most wild part of your body.
9:13The Bible says that. And so, the Lord
9:15chose to use this most untamed
9:19member of your body to say holy words
9:23that do not come from your logic, but
9:25they come from your innermost being. And
9:28this is the initial. Everybody say
9:30initial. That's not too big of a word.
9:33It's the beginning sign that the Holy
9:36Ghost has come in. If you have not
9:38spoken with tongues as the Holy Ghost
9:40gives you what to say, you need to get
9:44the Holy Ghost. The Bible says you shall
9:48receive. Now, the day of Pentecost is a
9:50celebration, but it's not a celebration
9:52that started in the book of Acts. It
9:54started in the Old Testament. I'm not
9:56going to take the time to tell you the
9:57history. I did in the first service, and
9:59I wasn't able to get to all the New
10:01Testament verses. So, I'm going to get
10:02to the New Testament verses today. But,
10:04the Pentecost was the celebration of God
10:08telling his people how to come to him.
10:13Pentecost. Before that happened, they
10:16did not know how to come to him. They
10:18came any way they thought they ought to.
10:21They came to him when they ever got an
10:23urge. Whenever the people who loved God
10:25decided they wanted to please God, they
10:27would build them an altar, and they
10:29would come to him. And the Lord accepts
10:31that, just like he accepts right now the
10:33people that don't like church. They
10:35don't like preachers, but they love God.
10:38And today, there are some of them that
10:39are fishing on Lake Okeechobee. Some of
10:42them are out on the Gulf Stream fishing.
10:44And that is their personal conscious
10:47spiritual time. And some of them are
10:49having a real touch of the Holy Ghost
10:53doing that. But, as you get closer to
10:56God, you realize you don't get to choose
10:59how you come to to
11:00He has given us a pattern of how to come
11:04to him. He always says, "Enter into his
11:07gates with Thanksgiving and into his
11:10courts with praise." If you don't want
11:13to be a part of the music part of our
11:15service, you can come about 40 minutes
11:17late every service. If you come about 45
11:20minutes, you'll get one song, you'll
11:22miss the offering, and you'll hear the
11:24preaching. And maybe you're so good that
11:27you don't need anything else. But if you
11:29know about God, you know you don't get
11:32to come to him any way that you want to
11:35come to him. You don't get to wake up
11:37and say, "Today, Lord, I don't feel like
11:39anything special, but I love you." No,
11:41no, that's not it. The Bible says if
11:43you're coming to him, you've got to
11:45start with praise. That's the reason the
11:48people who come here and can't wait for
11:50song service, they are people who have a
11:52revelation. They haven't learned
11:54Pentecostal tradition, they've learned
11:56by revelation that if I want to get to
11:59God, I've got to start
12:02with praise. People who aren't praising,
12:05who stand there, they're not trying to
12:07get to God, they're just waiting to find
12:09out if they can pick and handpick
12:11whatever they like. But if you're
12:13serious about getting to God, you got to
12:15start with praise.
12:18>> [laughter]
12:19>> Get out of my way. I love you, but I got
12:22to praise him. I APPRECIATE YOU, BUT I
12:24GOT TO PRAISE HIM. DON'T STOP ME NOW
12:27[screaming] BECAUSE THEY'RE SINGING A
12:29SONG
12:30THAT'S RIGHT FROM MY SOUL. I GOT TO
12:33PRAISE HIM A LITTLE WHILE.
12:35OH, I MIGHT NEED A MIRACLE, BUT I'M
12:38GOING TO START WITH PRAISE. I MIGHT NEED
12:40A BLESSING, BUT I'M GOING to start WITH
12:42PRAISE. I MIGHT NEED A DELIVERANCE, BUT
12:45BEFORE I GO THERE, I'M GOING TO START
12:47WITH PRAISE. That's the reason I praise
12:50him in the morning. I praise him at
12:52noonday. This is a praising church. Some
12:55of y'all are understanding what I'm
12:57talking about right now. You know what
13:00it is TO SAY I WILL NOT HOLD MY PEACE. A
13:03stone is not going TO TAKE MY PLACE.
13:06NOBODY'S GOING TO OUT-WORSHIP ME because
13:10he is my king.
13:13No glory.
13:14No glory.
13:16But then you start with praise until
13:18you're into your gates, and I'm not
13:19going to preach the Tabernacle plan, but
13:20that's how you come to him.
13:22And so the celebration of Pentecost is
13:24the celebration of this guidebook that
13:27God gave to Moses of how to come to him.
13:31And every year they would celebrate it,
13:33and they're doing it right now among the
13:34Jewish people. Shavuot is what it's
13:36called. There's There's a lot a lot of
13:39them will eat cheesecake today because
13:41it's one of the great celebrations of
13:43the Jewish. They eat cheeses and sweet
13:45desserts and wonderful strawberry
13:48cheesecake and uh blueberry cheesecake
13:51and uh turtle cheesecake
13:56pumpkin cheese
13:58pumpkin cheesecake
14:00white chocolate cheesecake and mhm
14:05red velvet cheesecake and uh uh
14:08plain Junior's
14:11cheesecake and MY GIANNO'S
14:15CHEESECAKE. OH, there's an anointing in
14:18this place.
14:23Why?
14:24Because it's sweet.
14:26God let them know the hints of how to
14:29get into the Holy of Holies.
14:31If you want to get there
14:33when you finally arrive there you'll
14:35find out it's all about a seat named
14:37mercy.
14:39I could preach about that, but that
14:40didn't answer what they were looking for
14:43in the Old Testament. It should have
14:45been enough, but Israel got selfish, and
14:47they thought it was all about them. And
14:49so the Lord veiled himself in flesh and
14:52came down on the earth as a baby and
14:55grew up and became a preacher. And after
14:58that, he told them a bunch of things,
15:00but after he was in the city of
15:02Jerusalem and every year they would
15:04celebrate in Jerusalem the giving of a
15:07well of water and they would walk to the
15:09priests would dip pales of gold into the
15:13amazing fountains at the bottom of the
15:15hill where the temple sat and they would
15:17carry it up and sing and quote with
15:20great regalia and their beautiful
15:22uniforms and the blast of ram's horns
15:26and the playing of harps. They would go
15:28up and then they would pour this water
15:31at the foot of the temple mount in a
15:33celebration of the giving of the ways of
15:36God. And Jesus watched all this
15:39procession and the Bible tells us in
15:41John the seventh chapter, Jesus had
15:45watched this procession and he cried out
15:48in the temple after the water was
15:51poured. If any man thirst, let him come
15:55unto me and drink as the He that
16:00believeth on me as the scripture has
16:03said, not as modern day preachers say,
16:06not as the Catholic church says, not as
16:09the Episcopalian church says, not even
16:12as the Pentecostal church says, as the
16:15scripture. I'm not preaching about being
16:17Pentecostal today. I'm preaching ABOUT
16:19BEING A BIBLE BELIEVER.
16:23You got TO BE A BIBLE BELIEVER.
16:26AS THE SCRIPTURE HAS SAID, OUT of his
16:29belly shall flow rivers of living water.
16:33That sounds wonderful, but what are you
16:36talking about, God? This spake he of the
16:40spirit, John said. It was coming from
16:43his spirit which they that believe on
16:46him
16:47should receive. Everybody said you shall
16:51receive.
16:53Everyone that believes shall receive it.
16:58Not some, not a few, not the emotional
17:00extras. NO, EVERYBODY WHO believes on
17:04him, scripturally, shall receive it. Not
17:09modern-day Christendom, not modern-day
17:11theology, not modern-day seminaries, but
17:15as the scripture says, everyone
17:18will receive it. For out of his belly
17:22the Bible said for the whole for the
17:23Holy Ghost was not yet given.
17:27Because Jesus because that Jesus was not
17:31yet glorified. The Holy Ghost could not
17:34be given until Jesus had resurrected and
17:39be taken out of the earth. So, when they
17:41were watching him get taken away uh
17:44the Lord told them what to do. Go,
17:48tarry,
17:49wait
17:51at Jerusalem
17:52until you are endued
17:55which is a big word that just means
17:57filled with power from on high.
18:01And so, they went to Jerusalem and it
18:02was 10 days. They waited 10 days. Now,
18:05some people don't like to wait to get
18:07the Holy Ghost. I don't like for you to
18:09have to wait to get the Holy Ghost. You
18:11don't have to wait to get the Holy
18:12Ghost. You can get the Holy Ghost today
18:15and speak with the tongue that no one
18:16taught you today. Today, in this place,
18:19right now, you can speak with tongues
18:21today, but it will not happen because
18:24somebody taught you how to do it. It
18:26will happen because you leave praying
18:28with your mind and you start praying
18:31with your spirit, small S spirit, your
18:34human spirit. And as you get in the
18:36spirit, the Lord will fill you or endue
18:40you with this in-filling of the Holy
18:43Ghost. And when that happens, you will
18:46speak with other tongues as the Spirit
18:49tells you what to say. You have heard me
18:51speak in tongues. I'm going to speak in
18:53tongues again. I don't stop myself from
18:56speaking in tongues around you because
18:58I'm afraid you might copycat what I'm
19:00saying. No, no, no, no. I'm not going to
19:03do that because when I'm raising my
19:05kids, I don't stop speaking English
19:08around them as babies because I'm afraid
19:11they will copycat me in speaking in
19:13tongues. I want them to learn how to
19:16speak in tongues or in English. I do.
19:19Some of y'all teach them Spanish. I want
19:20all my grandkids to know Spanish, too.
19:22All of them. I've told them all, "You
19:24kids better teach them." All my kids
19:26have married these Latinos.
19:30All of my grandkids are going to be
19:32Latinas and Latinos.
19:35And there ain't nothing wrong with that,
19:37y'all.
19:38Okay, so don't start thinking there's
19:40something wrong with that. But now, I'm
19:42not any I'm more Mexican than all y'all.
19:45I was born in San Diego, okay? I don't
19:48care who you think you are. I was born
19:50in San Diego, which the Mexicans say
19:52that that's that's Mexico, too. So,
19:55there you go.
19:58I was 6 mi at Sharp Hospital, 6 mi from
20:01Tijuana.
20:04So, I'm Mexican.
20:06But my son-in-law thinks he's bad cuz
20:08he's Colombian. Getting Getting
20:12All you Colombians thinking you're all
20:14that. And then we got the cubanos all
20:17wound up, tied up in this house. And we
20:20got the Dominicans. I met a Dominican
20:22the other day. I said, "Where are you
20:24from?" Dominican.
20:26I The way it just rolled off the tongue,
20:28I could tell back up and respect right
20:30now. The Dominican.
20:34Then then I got some Puerto
20:36Latinos in the house.
20:39All night Puerto
20:41Ricans in the house.
20:43What's going on here? You all know
20:45different languages, but when you talk
20:47in the Holy Ghost, you won't be talking
20:49Spanish, you won't be talking Creole,
20:52you won't be talking Portuguese, you
20:54won't be talking Chinese, you'll be
20:56talking a heavenly language THAT THE
20:58HOLY GHOST GIVES TO YOU THAT YOU WON'T
21:01UNDERSTAND, BUT YOUR SPIRIT WILL MAKE
21:04GROANINGS
21:05THAT are unutterable. Yeah, you'll be
21:08able to speak them, but there's
21:09something you cannot comprehend.
21:12And it all happens when the Holy Ghost
21:14falls. This spake he of the spirit which
21:17those who believed in him were to
21:19receive, but the spirit had not yet been
21:21given because Jesus had not been yet
21:24been glorified. In the Greek, that word
21:27is even more distinct and devastatingly
21:30precise. It's not optional language at
21:34all. It's not something that a lot of
21:36churches will act like, "Well, if you
21:37don't have it, you're still saved." No,
21:39no, no, no. I'm not saying that. If you
21:41don't speak with tongues, you need to
21:43press, press, press until you do because
21:45the Bible says it is normal, it is
21:48expected, and it's throughout the
21:50scripture. And the reason why we're
21:52different is because that pressure you
21:54just felt me put on you.
21:56Did you feel that pressure?
21:58I I'm I'm being kind, but I'm telling
22:02you don't feel content like everything's
22:04okay. Just because you got a steak on
22:06schedule today, if you're not full of
22:08the Holy Ghost. And if some of you spoke
22:11with tongues 20 years ago, and you
22:13haven't gotten full of the Holy Ghost in
22:15years, you don't need to feel happy
22:17because wow, I bought that t-shirt and I
22:19got the the little paper they hand out.
22:22It's somewhere in a book somewhere. No,
22:24no, no, no. This is not a moment where
22:26you play tag with God. This is the fire
22:30and the fuel of YOUR STRENGTH.
22:34WOO!
22:36>> [cheering]
22:38>> HE SAID, "OUT OF YOUR belly shall flow
22:41rivers
22:43of living water." This spake he of the
22:46spirit. He spoke that of the Holy Ghost.
22:50Rivers are not poetic language. They're
22:52the outflow of the result of the Holy
22:55Ghost. The inner life of disciple, a
22:57follower, has this perpetual spring in
23:01the desert of human existence. The way
23:04you and I survive isn't because God
23:06gives us everything we want, but while
23:09we're walking in the middle of our
23:10blessing, we still have the Holy Ghost
23:13to keep us balanced. When we're walking
23:15down through the bottom of our burden,
23:17we still have the Holy Ghost that tells
23:19us, "Lo, he is with me. Even though I'm
23:22not where I want to be, I've still got
23:25him in me." We are a parched people,
23:28thirsty, because much of Christianity
23:31has rejected the living water with this
23:35theoretical, "Oh, you're saved."
23:39What does it mean?
23:40You're saved?
23:42What does that mean?
23:44I don't like the way people walk around
23:46with this supposed haughtiness.
23:48I don't want even Apostolics to walk
23:50around with this false sense of arrival.
23:53Not even throughout scripture is that
23:56found. Paul said, "Woe woe is me if when
24:00I have preached unto others, I myself
24:03become a castaway." Folks, that's the
24:06reason you're going to find this
24:07preacher still desperate to please the
24:10Lord. I'm not all that in a bag of
24:13chips. I'm a man who's striving to be
24:17like the Lord.
24:19>> [cheering]
24:21>> We are thirsty people. This is going to
24:23be a thirsty church. People They I wish
24:25they'd just lighten up. Why can't we
24:27just have a victory service sometime?"
24:29Every church service where I touch the
24:31hem of his garment is a victory service.
24:34>> [applause]
24:36>> EVERYONE IS A VICTORY SERVICE.
24:39But it's not that we are walking after
24:42some broken theology or some
24:45dopamine-inducing
24:47game at church. If you want that, play
24:49Candy Crush while I preach. I'm not
24:51going to give you some false dopamine
24:54rush. Go ahead on TikTok while I'm
24:56preaching. If you need your dopamine
24:58hit, get on TikTok. They know how to
25:00give it to you. But I'm not in the
25:02dopamine business. I'm in the if that
25:05same spirit, if that same spirit, if
25:07that same spirit, if that same spirit
25:10that raised up Christ from the dead, IF
25:12IT DWELL IN YOU. I'm not TALKING ABOUT
25:15DOPAMINE. I'M TALKING ABOUT I'M GOING TO
25:17BE CHANGED in a moment, in the twinkling
25:20of an eye. The mortal shall PUT ON
25:23IMMORTALITY, AND I SHALL BE CAUGHT UP.
25:28WOO!
25:31THIS IS NOT A cute add-on. The Holy
25:33Ghost isn't a cute add-on that we just
25:35talk about on Pentecost SUNDAY. IT'S
25:37EVERY SERVICE. IT'S not imagine that
25:40you're saved, not some
25:41self-actualization
25:44moment strategy. No, no. This is the
25:46consistent apostolic pattern. The spirit
25:50is not an add-on. He is the very life of
25:53the follower. He is the life of the
25:56disciple. It is not sentimental. It is
25:59not emotional spirituality. It is not
26:01something that evaporates as soon as
26:03you're done talking in tongues. No, it
26:06is now resident in you. Tuesday night,
26:10Ali got baptized or last Sunday, and I
26:13met with Ali this past Thursday. And she
26:16was the one who got baptized last last
26:19Sunday. And she got the Holy Ghost while
26:21she was in the water. She has blonde
26:22hair and it was over face. I didn't see
26:24that. I didn't know it until we had our
26:27meeting on Thursday. I met with her and
26:29her fiance and I said, "What happened?
26:32How was your Sunday?" She said,
26:33"Unbelievable." I said, "Did you speak
26:35with tongues?" She said, "Yes."
26:37I said, "I didn't know."
26:40I didn't know, you know, if you talk in
26:41tongues and your hair's covering you.
26:43Either I reach down and pull up the back
26:45of your hair and see it
26:47or I just realized all that matters is
26:48God sees it.
26:51I don't need for everybody around you to
26:53break out and dance and then it'll
26:55happen as soon as we hear you speak in
26:56tongues, okay? If we hear you speaking
26:58in tongues and you've never spoken in
27:00tongues before, WE'RE GOING TO SAY,
27:01"THAT'S IT. THAT'S IT. [screaming] WOW.
27:03YEAH." BUT IF WE don't hear that, we're
27:07not the testament. The test is and they
27:11heard them speak with tongues and
27:13glorify God. That's the way it happened
27:16in Acts the second chapter. That's the
27:18way it happened in Acts the eighth
27:20chapter. Every place the Holy Ghost fell
27:22in the book of Acts, there was speaking
27:24with other tongues. Paul met some people
27:27who loved God. They were followers of
27:29John and he asked them, "Have you
27:32received the Holy Ghost since you
27:35believed?" They were believers. So, the
27:38first ans- ask is, "Have you received
27:41the Holy Ghost since you believed?" It's
27:43the question I ask every service here. I
27:45don't ask it just like that, but I
27:47believe you're already a believer if you
27:49come through the door. We have some
27:50non-believers come through the door and
27:51I respect them and I welcome them. I'm
27:53happy for them. But since you believed,
27:56the number one question that must be
27:58asked of you is, "Have you received the
28:00Holy Ghost since you believed?" And you
28:03know what they answered to him? They
28:04answered him not what what some people
28:06answer me. "Oh, yeah, we received it."
28:09"We received it." "Well, did you speak
28:11with other tongues?" "No."
28:13You know why people say that? Because
28:15there's so many flawed theologians who
28:18tell you you get the Holy Ghost without
28:20the evidence.
28:22They are called cessationist.
28:24Cessationist is just a big word that
28:26means the way it happened in the Bible
28:28is not necessarily
28:31or not necessary for believers today.
28:34And so they thought they think and act
28:36like they've graduated in 325 AD at the
28:39Council of Nicaea. They decided that
28:41we're going to baptize not in the way
28:42that is modeled in the scripture but
28:45we're going to start baptizing and we're
28:46going to baptize in the titles name of
28:48the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. But
28:50back then they didn't say it in English,
28:52they said it in Latin which hardly no
28:53one understood. And if I was Catholic, I
28:56would be able to say it in Latin, but
28:58I'm not Catholic so I don't even know
28:59how to say in nomine Dei
29:02uh
29:03Spiritus Sancti
29:04I mean, I've heard them say it and I'm
29:06not mocking anything, but you know if
29:08you're Catholic, you learn the Latin of
29:10those words. That was never in your
29:12Bible. It's not in scripture. But
29:15because back then people didn't have
29:16access to the Bible.
29:18Anybody could say anything and change
29:20it. And what they were saying is we've
29:21got more revelation. We've got more than
29:23the apostles had. Cessationists believe
29:26that what the apostles taught was just
29:29for an infinite or an infant immature
29:32church that had not grown up into
29:36beautiful revelation. So back then they
29:39needed to baptize grown people by
29:42putting them all the way under the
29:44water. But these new traditional church
29:47fathers have got new revelation that all
29:50you have to do is take a baby and
29:53sprinkle them. And so if you're just
29:56taking the water sprinkled on a baby,
29:59then they are baptized because we've got
30:02new revelation that's not found in the
30:04Bible, but we're more mature than the
30:07Apostle Peter, than the Apostle Paul.
30:09That's not what they're saying overtly,
30:12but passive-aggressive, they're saying,
30:14"We're more mature than that." And I
30:16want to tell you, I would rather be
30:19behind what the apostles preached than
30:21what any church father preached. And
30:24that was for many years. It wasn't until
30:27the Protestant movement came along that
30:29people start saying, "Well, no, we got
30:30to baptize by putting them under the
30:32water." Who come up with that crazy
30:34idea? I'll tell you who came up with it.
30:35The word of God came up with it. That's
30:38the way they did it in the Bible. And
30:40so, they call them Protestants. And if
30:42you protest against the mother church,
30:44then we're going to kill you. And you
30:46read history, a lot of people died at
30:49the hands of the Catholic Church. I
30:51don't want to say those were the people
30:52of faith, I would tell you they were the
30:54political powers that were at that time.
30:57And so, I'm happy to leave all those
30:59generations in the hands of God. But
31:02people died to get the Bible in common
31:04man's language, where we can read what
31:07was written in the original documents.
31:10And when we finally got that, we started
31:12saying, "Oh, I don't want some
31:14government control telling me what
31:16church is supposed to look like. If
31:18government tells me I'm just supposed to
31:20be sprinkled, then let me get back to
31:22the Bible. I'll be baptized by going all
31:25the way under the water. All my hair
31:27will get wet that time. It'd be a lot
31:29more convenient if I could just sprinkle
31:30babies."
31:33Wouldn't that be much more convenient?
31:35I mean, let's be honest. Sister Lisa's
31:37holding that beautiful grandson. Man,
31:39that's only Latin one she's got that
31:41looks Latin. Johnny finally came through
31:43on that one. That little man right
31:45there, he's got some beautiful Latino in
31:48him. But, oh, wouldn't it be nice if all
31:51I had to do was just take this and right
31:53here. Yes, sir.
31:55That's a good-looking boy right there.
31:57Here you go.
31:59YOU'RE BAPTIZED.
32:02That's awesome, and he's saved now.
32:07Listen, with all due respect to people
32:09who mean well,
32:11that is false
32:12doctrine.
32:14In fact, it is the doctrine of devils.
32:21So, I hope I'm not offending anyone
32:23because I'm not trying to disrespect
32:24anybody.
32:25But, if that same spirit
32:28that raised up Christ from the dead
32:30dwell in you, that's a big question.
32:34Is that a fair question?
32:36THAT'S WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS.
32:37SO, WHY DO THESE PASTORS FEEL
32:39COMFORTABLE LETTING YOU STAY COMFORTABLE
32:43IF YOU AREN'T FILLED WITH THE HOLY
32:45GHOST?
32:47TELL ME WHY. [screaming]
32:48I MEAN, I LOVE THEM. I'M FRIENDS WITH
32:50THEM. I went to seminary with them. And
32:51I'm not trying to play
32:53passive-aggressive or mean. But, ladies
32:55and gentlemen, this church facility,
32:57these 10 acres in South Florida, this
33:00great place where we've got an
33:01unbelievable band and singers better
33:03than all the singers in the world. The
33:05singers in this church are the top in
33:07the world. And I'm telling you that's
33:09the truth. The band in this church I
33:11would put on any stage in America. And
33:14we're not just getting worse, we're
33:16getting better. There's more on the way.
33:19I'm telling you why. Cuz talent gets
33:20talent. But, it's not talent. We're not
33:22impressed with talent. I don't care how
33:25high you can sing. And I don't care how
33:27unbelievable you can play the drums. I
33:29was the baddest drummer in my day in the
33:31entire UPC. Listen, I know how to make
33:34those babies talk. I don't The drums
33:37don't play me. I play the drums.
33:41Yes sir.
33:43I'm not impressed with talent. I'm
33:45impressed WITH CONSECRATION.
33:48I'M IMPRESSED WITH PEOPLE THAT SAY, "I
33:50CAN'T PLAY WITH MEN'S TALENT. I'VE GOT
33:53TO PLAY WITH GOD'S ANOINTING.
33:55EXCEPT THE HOLY GHOST WORK THROUGH ME."
34:01OH, we've got to have more than safe
34:04church.
34:07I'm sort of tired of this idea of safe
34:09church.
34:11What does that mean?
34:13If I've got sins that are not dealt
34:15with, do I need to feel safe?
34:17If I'm walking in imagined salvation,
34:19should I feel safe?
34:22IF I'M WALKING IN SIN, you know, people
34:24living together and come to church and
34:26nobody ever lets them know that that sin
34:28to be living together.
34:31You're not safe.
34:32You're living in fornication.
34:35You got to get clean before you can come
34:36to God. Yes, I'm that preacher.
34:40I'm going to love you just the same out
34:42there, but you got TO HAVE CLEAN HANDS
34:45TO COME INTO THE PRESENCE OF GOD. YOU
34:47GOT TO CLEAN YOUR WALK UP. YOU GOT TO
34:49CLEAN YOUR language up. And the greatest
34:51CLEAN LANGUAGE IS TALKING IN A HEAVENLY
34:54LANGUAGE.
34:56>> [applause]
34:59>> EVEN SOME Pentecostals get it wrong.
35:01There was a time in Pentecost that they
35:03called the gift of the Holy Ghost a
35:06second baptism.
35:09No, the Holy Ghost is the first baptism.
35:12There's no second baptism. There's no
35:14add-on. There's nowhere in the New
35:16Testament is that anticipated. That's
35:19just called minimalism when you get
35:20people supposedly feeling like they're
35:23all right with God without having
35:24repented of their sins, been filled with
35:26the Holy Ghost, and baptized in Jesus'
35:28name.
35:30Now, I I've met some friends who say,
35:31"But David, they're they're saved at
35:33repentance." I would like to know
35:36uh who tells you to make them feel
35:38comfortable at repentance. And so, they
35:40come back to me and say, "Well, don't
35:41you know that heaven rejoices over a
35:43sinner that repenteth?" The angels
35:45rejoice. Well, last I checked, the
35:48angels aren't going to judge me.
35:50Angels get it wrong all the time. That's
35:52the reason we've got demons.
35:54I'm not looking to the angels for the
35:55sanction of my salvation. I'm looking to
35:57the Lord. And he said, "If you don't do
35:59it as the scripture has said it." And
36:01this is why Peter, who was given the
36:03keys to the kingdom. The keys to the
36:05kingdom were never given to Michael, nor
36:07Gabriel, nor Lucifer. None of the angels
36:09were ever given the keys to the kingdom.
36:11It was Peter who stood up and preached
36:13on the day of Pentecost. And the Lord
36:15himself said, "You'll be my mouthpiece."
36:18And when Peter preached, he didn't say,
36:19"Well, let's be gentle with them. Let's
36:22understand they're coming from a long
36:24way. Don't you Aren't you happy that
36:26they're just not taking heroin? Don't
36:28you understand they're out there smoking
36:30crack? You ought to be happy if they
36:31just clap their hands because they're
36:33not smoking crack today. Listen, I
36:35appreciate they're not smoking crack
36:37today. I'm glad you're choosing not to
36:40take heroin today. But I, as a preacher,
36:43a man of God, I'm not going to just
36:45celebrate that you're not taking crack
36:47today when I can get you rivers of
36:49living water that'll separate you from
36:52YOUR NEED FOR THAT KIND OF LIFE.
36:57>> [applause]
36:59>> AND I'VE HEARD SOME WILL CELEBRATE
37:00REPENTANCE. I do celebrate repentance.
37:03But I want to know, am I going to take
37:05your advice to just celebrate
37:07repentance, or am I going to listen to
37:08Peter who thought it was not too much to
37:12tell them all in one setting, "Repent,
37:15every one of you, and be baptized in the
37:18name of Jesus Christ for the remission
37:20of your sins, and ye shall receive the
37:23gift of the Holy Ghost. And the promise
37:25is unto you, and to your children, and
37:28to all that are afar off, even as many
37:31as the Lord our God SHALL CALL."
37:36I know that's a lot to swallow.
37:39BUT IF THE APOSTLE PETER FELT LIKE IT
37:41WAS ENOUGH for one sitting, then I'm
37:44going to do the same thing. If you
37:46haven't repented of your sin, you need
37:48to repent of your sin starting now. If
37:50you haven't been baptized all the way
37:53under water, in the name of Jesus
37:55Christ, YOU NEED TO START TODAY. IF YOU
37:58haven't received the Holy Ghost,
38:00speaking in other tongues as the Spirit
38:02gives you the utterance, then you need
38:04to receive it this morning.
38:10That's the promise.
38:13It's throughout your New Testament.
38:15The promise explained how the position
38:17is declared throughout scripture. The
38:19practice was demonstrated again and
38:21again to the Romans in Romans 8.
38:25Paul says,
38:26"But you are not in the flesh.
38:30You are
38:31in the spirit."
38:33Who is he talking to?
38:35Well,
38:36he's talking to just the church at Rome.
38:40He's not talking to the city at Rome.
38:42He's not talking about the citizens in
38:44Rome. He's talking about people who are
38:47in the church. So, the assumed position,
38:51if you're in the church, you're already
38:54filled with the Holy Ghost.
38:56Now, that doesn't mean your body's in
38:58the church, it means you've had that
38:59supernatural encounter where you speak
39:02in other tongues. And so, the if you're
39:05you're not in the flesh,
39:07but in the spirit.
39:10Once again, this is the word that
39:11Armando forgot.
39:16How am I in the spirit?
39:19If
39:21so be.
39:24If so be that the spirit of God dwell in
39:27you.
39:28See, there were people that got the Holy
39:29Ghost,
39:31but they lost the way of God.
39:33They lost the spirit of God. That was
39:34fornications. There were adulteries in
39:36the church at Corinth. There were people
39:38in the church, that means they were
39:39baptized, they were filled with the Holy
39:41Ghost, and they started walking in the
39:42flesh.
39:44It's terrible. There was incest, a case
39:46of incest, and Paul said, "If you don't
39:48handle that, I'm going to come and take
39:50care of business, because you better put
39:52that out. We're not going to let incest
39:53sit in the house of God. Turn them over
39:55to the devil, that their soul might be
39:57saved."
39:59That's strong. When was the last church
40:00you heard did that?
40:02Okay, but I'm I'm not trying to be mean.
40:04I want to be biblical.
40:06Okay, bring me my verse back. If so be
40:09that the spirit of Christ is indwell in
40:12you. Now, if any man
40:14have not the spirit of Christ,
40:17what does that say?
40:19Oh, but I go to church.
40:21You're none of his.
40:23Well, I can pay good tithes.
40:25You're none of his.
40:27Well, I talk to the pastor every
40:29service.
40:30You're none of his.
40:31Well, I pray whatever the preacher tells
40:33me to pray after him. You're none of
40:35his.
40:36If any man have not the spirit of
40:39Christ, that's not waking up the morning
40:41smiling at the sky.
40:42That's receiving the Holy Ghost, not a
40:45second blessing, your initial infilling.
40:49If any man have not the spirit of
40:51Christ, he is none of his. This is
40:53Romans 8. This is the book where they
40:55call the Roman Road.
40:57Do you ever heard of the Roman Road in
40:59Christianity? The Roman Road is
41:00essentially this: confess with your
41:02mouth, believe in your heart, and thou
41:03shalt be saved.
41:05That's the Roman Road. Confess with your
41:07mouth, believe in your heart, and thou
41:09shalt be saved. Isn't that something in
41:11the same book? He said, "If you don't
41:13have the spirit of Christ, you're none
41:14of his."
41:16Why? Because when he was saying confess
41:18with your mouth and believe in your
41:19heart, it wasn't you being saved for the
41:21first time. It's what you got to keep on
41:23doing after you've got the Holy Ghost.
41:26You've got to keep confessing with your
41:28mouth, and keep believing in your heart,
41:30and if you keep on keeping on, you shall
41:33be saved. But if you want to backslide,
41:35this is Calvinism, which is such a
41:36damnable doctrine. I'm going to call it
41:39out. I know you guys don't know that,
41:40but I'm That's for the internet. It's so
41:42Calvinistic damnable that says once
41:45you're saved, you're always saved.
41:47That's not modeled in the scripture.
41:51PAUL SAID, "LEST WHEN I HAVE PREACHED to
41:53others, I myself become a castaway."
41:55Jesus himself talks about the prodigal
41:57son who went a long journey. I know he
41:59was saved eventually, but Demas hath
42:02forsaken me. Demas was his fellow
42:04laborer. That is talking about just
42:06Demas. The third time Demas is mentioned
42:08is Demas hath forsaken me. Why? How did
42:12Demas ever become Paul's laborer?
42:14Because Demas was baptized in Jesus'
42:16name. Demas was filled with the Holy
42:17Ghost. Demas spoke Demas, not demons.
42:20Although demons can speak in tongues,
42:22too.
42:24Careful. Don't Don't just think because
42:25somebody's talking in tongues that
42:26they're of God.
42:28Okay? But that doesn't mean we're not
42:30going to have tongues in the church.
42:32When I was growing up, anybody that
42:33talked in tongues was of the devil.
42:35Honestly, the 1970s
42:37in Charlotte, North Carolina, which was
42:39Southern Baptist haven, and I went to
42:41school and I wanted to be a part of the
42:43Meet Me at the Club Flag Club, but
42:46because I wasn't a tongue talker, I
42:47wasn't allowed to be in the club.
42:49Because only demons talked in tongues.
42:52Well, that's not the Bible.
42:54It's anticipated that you will be a
42:56tongue talker. How do I know that? Well,
42:58the Romans The Romans is filled with it.
43:01It's watertight. The spirit of God dwell
43:03in you. If any man hath not the spirit
43:05of Christ, he is none of his. Paul does
43:07not say if you choose to walk in the
43:09spirit, it says, "Walk in the spirit and
43:12you shall not fulfill the lust of the
43:15flesh." Uh it goes on to say the spirit
43:17itself beareth witness with our spirit
43:20that we are the children of God. They
43:22separate two things, our spirit and the
43:25spirit of Christ. Those two things dwell
43:28in you. When my spirit agrees with the
43:30Holy Ghost, that's when I speak with
43:32tongues.
43:33As long as my spirit doesn't surrender
43:36to the Holy Ghost, I will only speak
43:38English.
43:39Now, I know some Spanish.
43:45But, I don't know enough Spanish to talk
43:47in tongues.
43:48I know some French. We we maneuver.
43:51I know a little bit I mean monsieur
43:54monsieur
43:57I know some French.
43:59I don't know it enough to talk in
44:00tongues.
44:02I've heard enough Creole to pretend like
44:04I speak Creole.
44:05I've been to Brazil. I can pretend
44:08Portuguese.
44:09But, ladies and gentlemen,
44:11when I speak in tongues,
44:12I'm not saying what I know.
44:16I'm saying something my understanding
44:18does not comprehend.
44:20And here's where we get it. Paul
44:21corrects the abuse of the spirit, but he
44:24doesn't talk about the absence of the
44:26spirit. Corinthians is still in with
44:29people who are talking in tongues and
44:30trying to dominate a service. They would
44:32burst out in tongues over here, and
44:34another one burst out over there, and
44:36another one burst out over here, and
44:37another one burst out over there, and
44:38Paul said, "Good night, you guys are
44:40crazy."
44:41He said, "Nobody's being helped because
44:43none of us explain understand what
44:45you're saying."
44:46That's the reason every time someone
44:48talks in tongues in this church, we
44:49don't stop the whole service.
44:51Because we understand that talking in
44:54tongues, it is a gift, but it's also a
44:57spirit cry unto God.
44:59When I talk in tongues, I'm not asking
45:00for everybody stop. I am speaking unto
45:02God. There will be an authoritative
45:05sound when you know it's the gifts of
45:07tongues mixed with interpretation. But,
45:09if there's no interpretation, Paul said
45:11it doesn't help anybody but the speaker.
45:14So, if you talk in tongues and there's
45:15no one there that has an interpretation,
45:17we're happy you got a blessing, but we
45:19took 5 minutes out of everybody's day
45:21waiting.
45:23We need an interpretation.
45:25And that's the reason Paul dealt with
45:27this in Corinthians. They were just
45:30talking in tongues and interrupting the
45:32service. And the Bible says, Paul said,
45:35"But God revealed things unto us by His
45:37Spirit. We have received the Spirit
45:39which is of God, which things also we
45:42speak not in the words which man's
45:44wisdom teaches,
45:46but which the Holy Ghost teaches. First
45:50Corinthians 12:3, no man can say Jesus
45:53is Lord
45:54but by the Holy Ghost. I've already
45:56covered that. I want to go to 1
45:58Corinthians 14. Paul is dealing with
46:00this problem of tongues. And so they are
46:02trying to go through this and saying,
46:04"Well, what do it should we stop the
46:05whole service because someone is talking
46:07in tongues?" And Paul was saying, "No."
46:09He said, "I talk in tongues more than
46:11all of you guys." He said, "But you want
46:13to understand something. There's talking
46:15in tongues and there's praying with
46:16understanding." And he goes through
46:18this. "For if I pray in an unknown
46:21tongue," that's talking about talking in
46:23other tongues, heavenly language. "If I
46:25pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit
46:28prayeth."
46:29In other words, when I up here when I'm
46:31up here talking in tongues, believe you
46:33me, it's me praying in the spirit.
46:37But it's two spirits. It's my spirit
46:40and it's God's spirit.
46:42I'm praying in the spirit. When I pray
46:44in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth.
46:46But my understanding is unfruitful.
46:50In other words, I don't even know what
46:51I'm saying.
46:53When I stand up here and say, "Lord, I
46:55love you as much as a pansy."
46:58You know, I know my wife doesn't like
47:00that. She doesn't want me to say it like
47:01that because pansies are known as soft
47:03men.
47:06But I grew up in San Diego and my mother
47:08would always plant pansy flowers in my
47:11front yard. And if you've ever seen a
47:13pansy flower, they are the most
47:15gorgeous. They are bright orange and
47:18bright yellow with a black inner section
47:20and bright pink with a black and they're
47:23just boom. And my wife and I was in San
47:25Francisco 2 weeks ago and we went to the
47:27Garden of the Golden Gate Gardens, and
47:30they had a bunch of pansies growing
47:32there. And I told my wife, I looked over
47:35at her, I said, "Baby, I don't care what
47:37you say. I think the Lord is more
47:39beautiful than a pansy."
47:41And she said, "That's all right to say
47:43in Golden Gate Park, but don't say it in
47:45church."
47:55I said it in church cuz I'm just so old,
47:57I'm an old dog that's trying to learn a
47:59new trick.
48:02What am I saying? I know what I said
48:04when I said it in English.
48:06But when I speak in heavenly language, I
48:08don't know what I'm saying.
48:11Except I know
48:14that it is a
48:15covenant language with God.
48:18THAT I GOT IN A SUPERNATURAL I wasn't
48:21walking
48:23on water, I was speaking with my tongue,
48:26I was using my voice, my hands were in
48:28the sky. In fact, when I received the
48:30Holy Ghost, somebody told me, "You're
48:31climbing the ladder. You're getting
48:33closer." And my little old logical mind,
48:36I just said, "Well, then stop stop
48:38holding your hands like that, and start
48:40climbing the ladder." And as soon as I
48:43started doing that, that's when I
48:45started speaking in tongues.
48:47And I remember thinking, "Good night,
48:48what am I saying?" And my mouth was
48:50saying words, and I was letting go, and
48:52I'm All of a sudden, I was bouncing
48:54between my heart language and my mind
48:56trying to take back control. And I
48:58remember my mind listening to me talking
49:00this, and I said, "Key."
49:02Key was one of the words that are in my
49:04spirit language, okay? I don't know if
49:06it's spelled k e, k e, or c e, or I
49:10don't know how it's spelled in the Holy
49:11Ghost.
49:13But in my logical mind, it's spelled k e
49:15y.
49:17And I thought to myself,
49:19"Where did key come from?"
49:22I'm I'm sitting here like that and I
49:24key.
49:25I'm not going to talk in tongues and
49:26just like it's a performance. I I I'm
49:29not going to talk in tongues as a
49:30performance. Some people do that.
49:33Some people do that. They get talking in
49:34tongues and they get around you and you
49:35start praying and they go
49:38And you can almost feel their spirit.
49:40It's like, I want to show you
49:43how advanced I am.
49:45I had that in seminary. Some of my
49:46seminary other ministers, they would
49:48just pray one prayer and then ha ha
49:52And I was like thinking, "Mhm."
49:55Okay, they're showing me they got it,
49:56but that's normal around me.
49:59I'm not impressed that you got it.
50:00That's what everybody in the church has.
50:03It becomes less of a show and more of a
50:05go.
50:06>> [laughter]
50:07>> It becomes a moment when you you have
50:09something that you just don't know how
50:11to say your joy.
50:14And you break into that other tongue.
50:15You don't know how to express your pain
50:18and you just got to say it in another
50:19tongue. You can't express that loss.
50:22You've got to say it in ANOTHER TONGUE.
50:24YOU CAN'T EXPRESS that blessing. It's
50:27too good AND SO YOU'RE JUST
50:31And you speak in that heavenly language
50:33that I could do right now, but I'm not
50:35going to perform.
50:38Cuz it's of God.
50:41But when you get it,
50:44it's going to be easy.
50:46Sister Holmes has come. I've got to be
50:47finished.
50:48You're going to be there praising God. I
50:49love you, Jesus. Thank you. Thank you.
50:50Thank you. Hallelujah.
50:52Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
50:54And all of a sudden, you'll take that
50:56step.
50:57You won't shake. Some might. Your chin
51:00will twit might not twiver twiver.
51:05That's a new word.
51:07Twiver. Buck 50 word.
51:11It won't twitter.
51:13Nor will it quiver.
51:15Some do.
51:17Some it just starts the Some people
51:19their right hand just start shaking.
51:21What What is this? I'm not mocking it.
51:23I'm telling you it's the logical mind
51:26giving way
51:28to a spiritual encounter.
51:30Some people fall back. Some people start
51:33dancing. I've seen some people start
51:35laughing from their belly, just
51:37laughing, laughing. And then I've seen
51:39some charismatic people do it and it's
51:41more of a show. It's more of like a
51:42horse laugh. I'm like trying to say,
51:44"Well, what what's going on here? Is it
51:45just a laughing festival or we in the
51:48spirit?"
51:49And this is the danger of being a
51:51spirit-led church.
51:53Because spirit-led can get messy.
51:55People use it like a leverage.
51:57Sometimes they get in a fight and
51:59they're so mad they just decide they're
52:00going to want up you with tongues.
52:02I rebuke you. Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
52:04ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba.
52:06And I'll stand there and say, "Oh,
52:09that's unfruitful."
52:12That's what Paul called it.
52:14Paul said it's unfruitful.
52:16You can't rebuke me with tongues.
52:19That's not helping anybody.
52:21It's not even helping you.
52:23But you know we've seen churches do this
52:25stuff.
52:26Why? I'm not downing this them. I want
52:29to baseline this and make us understand
52:33the Holy Ghost.
52:35If I pray in an unknown tongue, Paul
52:36said, "My spirit prayeth, but my
52:39understanding is unfruitful." Let's go
52:41on.
52:42What is it then? What what what I've got
52:44to figure this out for. What is it then?
52:46I will pray with the spirit, that's in
52:48tongues.
52:50And I will pray with the understanding.
52:52Sometimes I'm just going to pray words
52:54that I understand. Like, "Lord, I love
52:56you. You're more beautiful than a
52:57pansy." That may not bless you, but it
52:59blesses me.
53:01Also, I will sing with the spirit.
53:03There's time times you sing IN OTHER
53:05TONGUES.
53:06OH, my dad would always do it. My dad
53:09That was one of his favorite ways to
53:10pray. He would He would just take off in
53:12tongues and walk around.
53:14Ah ho ha. He had about five notes he
53:16hit. That's all. No No tricks, winter.
53:17He had no tricks on this one. He
53:20Ah ho ha ho ha.
53:24He would get locked in on those two
53:25notes and I would say as his son I'd try
53:27to say, "He's a great man. I'm trying to
53:29figure this out right now."
53:33And he didn't care.
53:34Because when you get in the Holy Ghost,
53:36all of a sudden your kids don't own you.
53:38Your wife doesn't own you.
53:40Your husband doesn't own you.
53:42Your boss doesn't own you. Corporate
53:44doesn't own you.
53:46Your grandkids don't own you. Your
53:48grandkids need to see you talking in
53:50tongues.
53:52You need to LET YOUR KIDS SEE YOU LOST
53:54IN THE SPIRIT. They look up and they
53:56THINK THE SAME THOUGHTS I THOUGHT.
54:00WHAT'S WRONG WITH DAD?
54:04Is he crazy? I knew he wasn't crazy
54:05because he was the because he was the
54:07best dad in all the world.
54:09He was so wonderful.
54:11A great daddy.
54:13But every once in a while he wasn't
54:14mine.
54:15I knew I didn't have him that day. He
54:18was in the presence of his king.
54:20And he was singing in other tongues. I
54:22will I'll sing with the the spirit and I
54:26will sing with the understanding also.
54:27That's the way we sing at this church.
54:29With the understanding. I've been
54:30redeemed by blood divine. All glory
54:32glory Christ is mine.
54:36Several keys in that song right there.
54:40But but that's with the understanding.
54:42You know what I just said. Although many
54:43of you don't know what redeemed means.
54:46You know.
54:47No, you do.
54:49Some of those old English words. What am
54:50I saying?
54:52I'm saying
54:53to the Galatians he said, "Oh foolish
54:55Galatians,
54:56who hath bewitched you?
55:00Who has cast a spell on you?
55:02You started in the spirit.
55:06And now you're having church only with
55:08the understanding.
55:14You only will talk words that everybody
55:16understands because
55:19the spirit is too frightening to the
55:21newcomer.
55:23So, you push it off in a back room
55:26and treat it like it doesn't belong in
55:28the sanctuary.
55:29We are never going to be that church.
55:32Tongue talkers are going to be welcomed.
55:35Tongue talkers expected. Tongue talking
55:38normal. Tongue talking who we are. But,
55:41it doesn't stop us from realizing we've
55:44got to speak with the understanding to
55:46help those who've never received it.
55:50Shall we stand?
55:52The Ephesians, who hath bewitched you?
55:55O foolish Galatians, I should say.
55:57Who hath bewitched you? You began in the
55:59spirit, you think you can finish up in
56:01the flesh?
56:03To the
56:04the Galatians, he said, "Walk in the
56:06spirit
56:08and you shall not fulfill the lust
56:09[music] of the flesh."
56:11He says, "The only way you're going to
56:12have fruit is by the spirit. You're not
56:15going to be fruitful if you don't have
56:16the Holy Ghost. If you're led by the
56:18spirit, you're not under the law.
56:20If we live in the spirit, let us also
56:23walk in the spirit." It was the basic
56:26ethic. To the church at Ephesus, he
56:28said, "For though we him for through him
56:31Ephesians 2:18, for through him we both
56:35He's talking about Jews and Gentiles.
56:37For through him we both have access by
56:41one spirit unto the Father."
56:44The only way you can get to the Father
56:47is through the Holy Ghost.
56:50Somebody say, "Well, well, aren't you
56:51preaching two different things?" No,
56:53he's the same. But, one part of him
56:55lives in me.
56:58He's everywhere. He's God omnipresent.
57:01God omnipresent.
57:03And yet the spirit is his evidence
57:06living in me.
57:09The Bible says we are strengthened by
57:10with might by his spirit in the inner
57:13man.
57:14I'm strengthened with might by his
57:17spirit. Ephesians 6:18, praying always
57:19with all prayer and supplication. How?
57:23In the spirit.
57:25Jude 20, Jude says, but ye beloved,
57:28building up yourselves on your most holy
57:30faith, praying in
57:33the Holy Ghost.
57:35It's not rare. It's not elite. It's
57:37[music] common. It's expected. It's
57:40usual. And the Bible said, if that same
57:43spirit
57:45that raised up Christ from the dead
57:47dwell in you. Now, listen.
57:48If you've got the Holy Ghost speaking in
57:50tongues and it's been a while since
57:51you've spoken in tongues,
57:53that's on you.
57:55And you can fix it today
57:57by getting into a yielded position when
58:00we open this altar.
58:01And I want you to come and get a brand
58:04new experience [music]
58:06of speaking in other tongues.
58:08If you've never spoken in other tongues,
58:11today's your day. You can get it today.
58:13But you're not going to get it if you
58:15come up here and pray
58:16with your logic.
58:19Now, you'll never get the Holy Ghost
58:20coming up and praying an impressive
58:22prayer.
58:23And that's a big part of learning how to
58:25pray is getting over those people that
58:27hear you.
58:29You know what I'm talking about.
58:31Lord, I don't even know if I know how to
58:32talk. I might say you're beautiful as a
58:34pansy.
58:35And as soon as somebody hears me say
58:36that, oh Lord, they're going to laugh so
58:38much at me.
58:40Part of learning how to pray is getting
58:41over y'all.
58:43That's right. I love y'all. Y'all ain't
58:46all that.
58:49Please, this is no disrespect. [music]
58:52You can't save me.
58:54You can't heal me.
58:57You can't destroy me.
58:59You can't set me free.
59:02But there's one who can.
59:04And that's the reason we invite people
59:05to close their eyes. Why?
59:07So you're not distracted.
59:11THEY MIGHT BE GOING CRAZY 5 minutes or 5
59:13ft from you. But if your eyes are
59:15closed, you don't know.
59:18We'll try to keep them from hitting you.
59:21Pentecostals are pretty good bumper
59:22cars, you know, they're going to race.
59:25We've got some people that will play
59:26bumper cars because this one's getting
59:28excited. Okay, fence them in. Fence them
59:30in. If you dance and fall out and your
59:32skirt flies up, men will be pulling off
59:34their coats immediately. Why? Because we
59:36don't want nakedness in the house of the
59:38Lord. Cover that thing up. We're in the
59:40presence of the Lord.
59:43This is Pentecost.
59:45Pentecost.
59:47It's It's what we do. And if you're not
59:49comfortable with it, I'm saying, "Come
59:51on in. The water's fine."
59:55Come on in and realize that the joy of
59:58the Lord is your strength.
60:02I'M NOT WALKING IN THIS way to be weak.
60:05I'm not walking in this way to be odd.
60:07I'm not walking in this way to be weird.
60:10I'm walking in this way to be
60:13biblical.
60:19Hallelujah.
60:21Hallelujah.
60:23Hallelujah.
60:24Some people think, "Well, if I get the
60:26Holy Ghost, do I got to jerk?" No. No.
60:29You don't have to jerk.
60:30Well, if I got the Holy Ghost, do I got
60:32to start crying? No. No. You don't have
60:33to start crying.
60:35If I get the Holy Ghost, DO I GOT TO
60:36START JUMPING AND DOING THAT? I'VE SEEN
60:37THEM DO THAT SO MANY TIMES. DO I GOT TO
60:39DO THAT? NO, you don't have to do that.
60:42I'll never forget Brother Harry Scammell
60:43and got the Holy Ghost in the warehouse
60:44in Margate. And he was just a big old
60:47>> [music]
60:47>> hard-drinking Irishman. Was a terrible
60:50dad. Even at his funeral, his son was so
60:52bitter at him. His son didn't want to
60:54speak at his funeral. And Harry had
60:56turned his life around. He built me a
60:58staff in my office and he told me,
61:00"Pastor, you're the first one that gave
61:02me a staff of authority, the kind of
61:04staff that parts the Red Sea. So, I
61:06built you one." I've got it in my office
61:08right now, the staff Harry Scanlon built
61:10for me. But when that tough, Boston,
61:13hard-drinking Irishman got the Holy
61:16Ghost, he was just like this, head down.
61:19Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Which by the
61:22way, hallelujah is a great word to say
61:23when you haven't spoken in tongues yet.
61:26Not because it makes you stumble. No,
61:27no, no. We're not trying to trip you up.
61:29You're going to have to just speak out
61:31the language, the sounds. Maybe some of
61:33y'all might even say key. Isn't that
61:35something? What if you said key? I'll
61:37say you're a copycat, but heaven won't.
61:41What if you say law? Well, we've heard a
61:43lot of laws.
61:44I learned that in mu- music school. La
61:46la la la la la la la la.
61:50What what what fa so la ti do? Oh, there
61:52you go, tongues. No, that's that's
61:55Sound of Music.
61:57What is this? But it's going to maybe
61:59have a law and a car and a cha and a
62:02chee and a mee and a blah. I mean, I
62:05don't know what it's going to be, but
62:06there's only so many FORMATIONS YOU CAN
62:08MAKE WITH YOUR MOUTH.
62:11BUT YOU'VE GOT TO STOP TRYING TO CONTROL
62:13EVERYTHING.
62:15WOO.
62:16I know you're smart, but you're not you
62:18you can't be smart to him.
62:20I know you've got a great lexicon, drop
62:22a word there, but that doesn't impress
62:25him.
62:26I know your vocabulary is bigger than
62:27Webster's dictionary, but that doesn't
62:29impress him. What you got to do is start
62:31talking from your innermost being.
62:34Mhm.
62:35Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
62:38Hallelujah.
62:40Hallelujah. When Harry Scanlon started
62:42talking in tongues, he didn't move a
62:44muscle.
62:45He just started going ha ha ha ha ha ha
62:46ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
62:47ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Sounded almost like
62:49that.
62:50And just was gone.
62:51And all of a sudden,
62:53before you knew it,
62:55no movement. He didn't He didn't like
62:56crying. He He didn't think crying was
62:58manly.
62:59But one big old tear
63:02came by
63:03and came down that side. And he He
63:06almost wiped it too fast. But I saw it.
63:10And he got back to it.
63:12And that was all the Bible says
63:16will happen.
63:17It doesn't say you're going to cry.
63:19Doesn't say you're going to laugh.
63:21Doesn't say you're going to jump.
63:22Doesn't going to say you're going to
63:23twiver, quiver, twitter, all the other
63:26big words I used. It doesn't say going
63:28to shake. You might.
63:30But we're not going to say, "Oh, she's
63:31shaking. She got it." No.
63:33We're not going to say your hand's
63:34moving. No, we're going to say it's on
63:36you. That's what we're going to say.
63:37That's on you. It's on you right now. If
63:39you would let what's on your hand get on
63:40your tongue, [music]
63:42you would speak another tongues.
63:44What is that? It's It's that simple. If
63:46you don't have the Holy Ghost, I'm
63:48begging you.
63:50Come
63:51receive today.
63:53If you haven't talked in tongues in a
63:55while, I'm begging you. Come.
63:58Be refilled today. There's no day like
64:04this day. Lord Jesus, you know every
64:06heart that's under the sound of my
64:08voice. When I'm done [music] praying,
64:09Lord, I'm going to open this altar for a
64:11prayer service, and people are going to
64:13come, and they're going to lift up their
64:15hands. They're going to ignore everyone
64:17around them, and they're going to begin
64:19to speak with other tongues as the
64:21Spirit
64:22>> [music]
64:23>> gives them the utterance, and it will be
64:25the evidence, the initial evidence of
64:27the infilling of your spirit, which you
64:31gave on the day of Pentecost, and you're
64:34still pouring out today. In the name of
64:36Jesus, thank you for your goodness and
64:40blessing. In Jesus' name. Come right
64:43now. Come and let's fill this altar with
64:47the sound [music]
64:49of a heavenly
64:51language.
64:52Let's fill this atmosphere
